Former Fire Chief Killed at Trump Rally Hailed Hero after Protecting His Family from Gunfire

An attendee killed at a campaign rally for Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13, has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, who died after he was shot when he was attempting to cover his family from gunfire during an assassination against Trump. "Yesterday time stopped," his daughter, Allyson Comperatore, wrote in a now-deleted social media post. She called him a "real-life superhero" and said he "quickly threw" her and her mother to the ground and "shielded my body from the bullet that came at us." RELATED: Grandfather Nicolas Toledo Is Remembered For ‘Saving' Family After Shots Rang Out "He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. We lost a selfless, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend," she added. "And I will never stop thinking about him and mourning over him until the day that I die, too. July 13th will forever be a day that changed my life. I will never be the same person I was less than 24 hours ago." Remembering Corey Comperatore According to Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, Comperatore, 50, leaves behind his wife and two daughters. "He loved his community and his family," the governor said in a statement. "Corey was an avid supporter of the former president. He was so excited to be there last night with the community. Corey died a hero – Corey dived on his family to protect them last night. Corey was the very best of us." According to NBC Connecticut, at least two others were wounded during the assassination attempt on Trump at Saturday's campaign rally. The Pennsylvania State Police identified the two as David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. As of Sunday, both were listed in stable condition. The shooter, identified by the Secret Service as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, was killed after he opened fire on the former president from an elevated position. Trump, who was shot at the top of his right ear, initially took cover behind the podium from which he was speaking. Secret Service members then rushed and helped lift Trump to his feet. Then Trump stood up, with blood on his face, and raised his fist in the air to cheering supporters before being escorted off the stage. A Tragic Loss "The PA Trump Rally claimed the life of my brother, Corey Comperatore," Dawn Comperatore Schafer wrote on Facebook on Sunday morning. She noted that her younger brother turned 50 and posted a photo of him with her family holding up 5 and 0 balloons as part of his birthday, Independent reports. He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable," she said. "Hatred has no limits, and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me, and his nieces and nephews, as this feels like a terrible nightmare, but we know it is our painful reality." With Trump's authorization, Meredith O'Rourke, the national finance director for his 2024 election campaign, launched a GoFundMe page for the victims. As of morning afternoon, the campaign has raised nearly $4 million, exceeding its $1 million goal. Milton Quintanilla is a freelance writer and content creator. JUST IN: Democrat Senator Convicted In Federal Corruption Trial

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has been convicted of all counts in his federal corruption trial. Prosecutors said the New Jersey Democrat accepted bribes, including gold and cash, from multiple businessmen and acted as a foreign agent for the Egyptian government. “Three New Jersey businessmen who were also charged, along with the governments of Egypt and Qatar, were the alleged recipients. Two of those co-defendants, Wael Hanna and Fred Daibes, were also convicted of all counts they faced,” ABC News reports. The Senator allegedly was bribed hundred of thousands of dollars to help the government of Egypt. It included included gold bars, cash and a luxury convertible. pic.twitter.com/zxqZKKBHjT — unusual_whales (@unusual_whales) July 16, 2024 Per ABC News: The jury deliberated for about 13 hours over three days. Menendez pleaded not guilty to 16 federal charges including bribery, fraud, acting as a foreign agent and obstruction. Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer called for his resignation immediately after the verdict. “In light of this guilty verdict, Senator Menendez must now do what is right for his constituents, the Senate, and our country, and resign,” he said. Menendez will be sentenced on Oct. 29 and faces decades in prison. “Today’s verdict finding Senator Bob Menendez guilty on 16 counts demonstrates that the Senator broke the law, violated the trust of his constituents, and betrayed his oath of office. In America, everyone – no matter how powerful – is accountable to our laws,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said. Murphy also called on the senator to immediately resign. I have every faith that the law and the facts did not sustain that decision,” Menendez said. WATCH: Sen. Bob Menendez speaks after guilty verdict: “I’m deeply, deeply disappointed” pic.twitter.com/OKHV7YPBAI — The Post Millennial (@TPostMillennial) July 16, 2024 From the Associated Press: The jury’s verdict followed a nine-week trial in which prosecutors said the Democrat abused the power of his office to protect allies from criminal investigations and enrich associates, including his wife, through acts that included meeting with Egyptian intelligence officials and helping that country access millions of dollars in U.S. military aid. As the verdict was read in court, Menendez, 70, looked toward the jury at times as he appeared to mark a document in front of him. Afterward, he sat resting his chin against his closed hands, elbows on the table. Menendez did not testify at the trial, but insisted publicly he was only doing his job as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He said the gold bars found in his New Jersey home by the FBI belonged to his wife, Nadine Menendez. She too was charged but her trial was postponed so she could recover from breast cancer surgery. She has pleaded not guilty.

GUILTY! Democratic Senator Bob Menendez Convicted of Bribery Charges

A jury in Manhattan has convicted Democratic Senator Bob Menendez on all charges that he accepted multiple bribes in exchange for aiding foreign governments. BREAKING: New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez found guilty all counts in bribery trial pic.twitter.com/Ck5ZkUOV00— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) July 16, 2024 From Fox News: In his five-hour closing argument on Tuesday, federal prosecutor Paul Monteleoni urged jurors to hold the New Jersey Democrat accountable for his alleged misconduct. “This is a big case,” Monteleoni said. “But it all boils down to a classic case of corruption on a massive scale.” During the trial, prosecutors used cited emails and text messages from Menendez – as well as FBI testimony – to present evidence they argued shows the senator accepted extravagant gifts from foreign governments. The gifts totaled more than $100,000 worth of gold bars, in addition to hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash stuffed throughout Menendez’s New Jersey home. Menendez was charged by federal prosecutors with 18 counts since he pleaded innocent last year, all relating to a multiyear alleged bribery scheme involving the Egypt and Qatar governments. In March, an 18-page indictment was wrapped into Menendez’s existing charges already against him and his co-defendants — including his wife, Nadine — for allegedly acting as a foreign agent and accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to benefit the Egyptian government through his power and influence as a senator. The indictment came after co-defendant Jose Uribe – who allegedly gifted Nadine a Mercedes convertible – accepted a plea deal and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. The charges also alleged Menendez committed conspiracy, bribery, acting as a foreign agent, extortion and wire fraud.
