A new report suggests that the 20-year-old gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump purchased 50 rounds of ammunition just hours before taking shots at the 45th president in a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

MSNBC pulled “Morning Joe” off the air on Monday in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, opting to continue running breaking news coverage instead. The leftist network decided not to air the top-rated politics show’s first broadcast since Saturday’s deadly shooting over concerns that one of the show’s guests might make an “inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole,” CNN reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. “Morning Joe” will resume airing on Tuesday, the network said. Trump narrowly missed being killed by a bullet to the head at Saturday’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bullet grazed the former president’s right ear, and he ducked behind his podium before being whisked away by Secret Service agents. He raised his fist and shouted, “Fight!” as he exited the stage. Law enforcement returned fire immediately, killing the shooter. At least one rallygoer was killed, and two others were injured. On social media, some said MSNBC’s decision proved that the network does not trust its own highly influential show. “Stunning. On this uniquely impactful morning, MSNBC pulls its signature show Morning Joe, for fear that some jackwagon panelist would say something grotesquely inappropriate. Profoundly pathetic… and probably a wise move on their part,” conservative radio host Mark Davis posted. The decision to pull “Morning Joe” for Monday was made by Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC, and the show hosts themselves, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the source told CNN. “Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening,” a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group said in a statement to CNN. “As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast, alternating between NBC News, NBC News NOW and ‘MSNBC Reports,’ so there is one news feed covering this developing situation,” the spokesperson said. MSNBC has frequently come under fire for its coverage attacking Trump, some blaming the network for fomenting a heated political atmosphere that could contribute to violent acts. Scarborough said Sunday that his family is praying for Trump and the other victims of the shooting. “Political violence has scarred America’s landscape from JFK through January 6th. Republican and Democratic politicians alike have been victims and this violence has caused incalculable harm to America. Thank God President Trump is safe,” Scarborough said in a post on X. MSNBC also previously pulled three Muslim broadcasters off the air in the wake of Hamas’ deadly October 7 attack on Israel.

At least two Republicans who were finalists for President Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick have been informed that they were not chosen for the spot. Multiple publications have reported that Trump, who is expected to officially announce his pick at 4:30 p.m. EST, has informed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were not selected. Other candidates believed to be in the running for vice president include Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). Fox News reported that Rubio was not selected because of constitutional complications that stem from him living in the state of Florida. “The source said that over the last 10 days or so the conversations between Rubio and team Trump focused on the constitutional concern about both men living in Florida,” one of the network’s reporter posted on X. “Fox is told both teams wanted to be more confident there wouldn’t be a legal fight over the issue and they couldn’t be 100% sure of that.” Trump said during an interview on Sunday that he has changed the theme for his speech at the Republican National Convention after he was shot during an assassination attempt on Saturday. Trump, who sets the tone for the convention, told the Washington Examiner that he initially planned on hammering President Joe Biden throughout his speech. “Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now,” he said. Trump said that his original plan was to maximize excitement among his most ardent supporters, but his speech will now reflect his belief that the assassination attempt has “changed the election campaign entirely,” the report said. He said that his address would focus on unity and bringing the country together in light of what happened. “It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance,” he said. “This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together.
