Two of those critically injured during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday are in stable condition, according to police. During the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet the FBI says was fired by 20-year old Thomas Matthew Crooks. One man, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore of Sarver, Pennsylvania, was killed shielding his family from bullets. Two others were taken to the hospital to be treated following the attack.   In a news release, Pennsylvania State Police identified the injured victims as 57-year-old David Dutch, of New Kensington, and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, of Moon Township. According to police, they are in stable condition.  “These victims and their families are certainly in our thoughts today,” said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris. “The Pennsylvania State Police continue to work tirelessly alongside our federal, state and local partners as this investigation continues.” Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ordered all American and commonwealth flags to be lowered to half staff in honor of Comperatore, who was hailed as a hero. Comperatore, a firefighter, had two daughters and has been described as a pillar in his community.  Trump authorized a GoFundMe page be set up to aid victims of the assassination attempt.  “President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a place for donations to the supporters and families wounded or killed in today’s brutal and horrific assassination attempt,” the page says. “All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover. May God bless and unite our nation.” In a Truth Social post Sunday morning, Trump said it was God who saved him during the attack and expressed his love for the victims.  “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” he said.   “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” he added.

Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) said during an interview over the weekend that the Democratic Party had not asked its members to tone down their extremist rhetoric directed at former President Donald Trump or the Republican Party after Trump was shot on Saturday in an attempted assassination. Crow made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” when asked by host Margaret Brennan about terms that Democrats have used to attack Trump. “Democrats have referred to Donald Trump as a sociopath, as a narcissist,” she said, downplaying the true extent of the what Democrats say about Trump — whom they routinely compare to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and claim will destroy American democracy. “Do you think at this moment, all of that should stop?” she asked. “I think right now, on the heels of an attempted — what appears to be an attempted assassination attempt by all the evidence that we’re seeing right now, we all need to take a step back, we all need to take a breather,” he said. When asked whether Democratic leadership had conveyed that message to members, Crow responded: “They have not.” “We are on that precipice,” he said. “So leadership requires that we all step back. And we say enough is enough. We can’t do this. And this is my call to action, both to the American people, and to my colleagues, to the American people, right now: pick up the phone, walk out your door, go talk to your neighbor, go talk to your colleague, call your friends, who don’t agree with you and tell them, we can disagree. You’re not my enemy. You’re not evil. But this is our time to come together and to reach out to each other and to my colleagues. Let’s stop creating political moments.
