Trump Potential VPs React to Attempted Assassination: ‘Not Just Some Isolated Incident’

A number of President Donald Trump’s potential vice presidential picks weighed in Saturday evening on news that a shooter apparently attempted to assassinate the presidential candidate. “Today is not just some isolated incident,” said Republican Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance in a statement posted on X. “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” he added. “That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.” Today is not just some isolated incident. The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination.— J.D. Tim Scott said in a statement posted to X that he is praying for Trump and everyone at the Pennsylvania rally. “May God watch over them all,” he said. Marco Rubio similarly said that he was praying for Trump, tweeting: “God protected President Trump.” Rubio repeatedly criticized media for their coverage of the attempted assassination on Saturday evening, pointing to CNN’s cautious framing that failed to mention the loud gunshots: “Donald Trump is rushed off stage by Secret Service during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.” God protected President Trump pic.twitter.com/96UKVdjF3A— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) July 13, 2024 And Doug Burgum, the sitting Republican governor of North Dakota, said in an X post, “We all know President Trump is stronger than his enemies. Photos of the incident show a bloodied Trump defiantly raising a fist in the air. Fox News reported as of 8 p.m. on Saturday that the gunman was dead and two others had been injured and taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. Butler is about 33 miles north of Pittsburgh. The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., told ABC News that Trump is under observation, but in “good spirits” and is “never going to stop.” “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania,” the Secret Service said in a statement on Saturday evening. “The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.” Trump’s speech began around 6 p.m. Shortly afterward, video footage shows, the former president appeared to fall to the ground, or duck below his lectern, following the sound of gunshots, and the Secret Service swarmed around him before leading him offstage and into a vehicle. What Former Presidents Had to Say on Likely Trump Assassination Attempt

Donald Trump’s predecessors denounced the apparent assassination attempt on the 45th president Saturday evening. “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy,” the 44th President Barack Obama, a Democrat who served two terms, posted X, formerly Twitter.  There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.…— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) July 13, 2024 “Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics,” Obama added. “Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.” Obama has been a Trump critic and supporter of President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race.  Former President George W. Bush, a Republican who hasn’t been supportive of nor publicly oppositional to Trump, also condemned political violence.  Statement by President George W. Bush: "Laura and I are grateful that President Trump is safe following the cowardly attack on his life. And we commend the men and women of the Secret Service for their speedy response."— George W. Bush Presidential Center (@TheBushCenter) July 13, 2024 “Laura and I are grateful that President Trump is safe following the cowardly attack on his life,” Bush said in a statement. “And we commend the men and women of the Secret Service for their speedy response.” The 42nd President Bill Clinton, whose wife Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential race, also weighed in. “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy,” Clinton posted. “Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.” Violence has no place in America, especially in our political process. Elon Musk endorses Trump amid apparent assassination attempt on former president at Pennsylvania rally

Perhaps the world's best-known billionaire, Tesla and X owner Elon Musk, has announced that he endorses former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election after Trump was apparently shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday."I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," Musk posted to X on Saturday at 6:45 p.m., less than an hour after Trump was apparently shot and wounded in the ear during a rally in Butler. In the hours following the shooting, Musk twice called on the leader of Trump's Secret Service detail to resign on account of the apparent security breach. "The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign," he said around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday."Extreme incompetence or it was deliberate. Either way, the SS leadership must resign," he posted just over an hour later.'But then the martyr lived.'Thankfully, Trump is "fine," a statement from the Secret Service has confirmed, though at least two people, including the suspect, are reportedly dead. There have also been reports of other injuries. The timing of Musk's endorsement may be unexpected, but the endorsement itself is not. Reports this week indicated that Musk has already made a donation to a Trump-affiliated super PAC called America PAC. The size of the alleged donation has not been disclosed, though the PAC is expected to release a new list of donors sometime next week, The Hill reported.Just a few months ago, Musk insisted he would not donate to either Biden or Trump, tweeting, "Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President." He also previously stated that he voted for Biden in 2020 and donated to Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016.However, he has since seemingly changed his tune, expressing concern about right-leaning issues, including free speech, noncitizens voting in federal elections, and the immigration crisis.Musk's endorsement of and well-wishes for Trump stand in stark contrast to at least one billionaire donor who has opened his wallet for Joe Biden. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has not only continued to back Biden's 2024 campaign despite other Democrats calling for the president to step aside, but he even reportedly joked recently about assassinating Trump. When tech and investment titan Peter Thiel joked that Hoffman's donations to Biden had helped turn Trump into "a martyr" of Democrat lawfare, Hoffman reportedly retorted, "Yeah, I wish I had made him an actual martyr."After the deadly shooting at the Trump rally on Saturday, Musk called out Hoffman's apparent ill attempt at humor. "The Reid Hoffman’s of the world got their dearest wish … but then the martyr lived," he tweeted.Editor's note: This article has been updated to incorporate a second quote from Musk regarding the Secret Service.Like Blaze News? Steve Scalise following assassination attempt on Trump: 'This inciendary rhetoric must stop'

Steve Scalise following assassination attempt on Trump: 'This inciendary rhetoric must stop'

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and several other Republican lawmakers were practicing for a charity baseball game in 2017 when a leftist terrorist took aim at them and opened fire. Scalise, among the wounded, took a bullet to the hip. He suffered fractured bones, damaged organs, and severe bleeding. Following the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump Saturday, Scalise noted, "For weeks Democrat leaders have been fueling ludicrous hysteria that Donald Trump winning re-election would be the end of democracy in America. Clearly we've seen far left lunatics act on violent rhetoric in the past." "This incendiary rhetoric must stop," added Scalise. While a handful of Democrats condemned the attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, many in their party have spent years and untold sums of money vilifying Trump and his tens of millions of supporters. "This MAGA threat is a threat to the brick and mortar of our democratic institutions," President Joe Biden stressed in a speech last September. "It's also a threat to the character of our nation that gives our Constitution life, that binds us together as Americans, a common cause." In December, Biden wrote, "Trump poses many threats to our country: The right to choose, civil rights, voting rights, and America's standing in the world. But the greatest threat he poses is to our democracy." 'He will destroy this country, our democracy.' Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) noted after the Trump rally shooting, "The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination." Plenty of Democrats besides Biden have worked ardently to push this narrative despite knowing all along it was bogus. Years after calling Trump and his fellow Republicans "enemies of the state," Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested in April that Trump is "a great threat to our democracy." The Democratic National Committee has, for instance, has been running an ad campaign in multiple states labeling Trump not only a "fraud," a "liar," and a "denier" but also a "threat to our democracy," reported The Hill. There have, of course, been variations on this theme. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Trump presents a "clear and present danger" both to the Congress and to the country. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), apparently reading from the same script, indicated that every moment Trump is in office is a "clear and present danger to the safety and security of the American people." In May, California Rep. Maxine Waters (D), long a champion for street violence, attempted to paint Trump as a dictator in waiting. Waters suggested to MSNBC talking head Jonathan Capehart that Trump would seek a third term and stated, "Donald Trump will do any and everything that he can possibly get away with. He does not at all support the Constitution of the United States of America. This is a man who we better be careful about." Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) chimed in, telling Capehart, "If Donald Trump gets re-elected, there is no doubt that he will try to stay in office beyond his four-year term. He will destroy this country, our democracy." Biden — whose team lashed out at Trump for using the word "bloodbath" in reference to the economic fallout of continued offshoring of jobs under the current administration — suggested on a donors-only call last week that "it's time to put Trump in a bullseye." The New York Sun noted that unlike Trump's "bloodbath" comment, Biden's "bullseye" remark "has no banal application." Like Blaze News? 5 days before apparent assassination attempt, Biden told Democrats: 'It's time to put Trump in the bull's-eye'

President Joe Biden made incredibly incendiary remarks to his Democrat supporters about former President Donald Trump only days prior to the apparent assassination attempt of the presumptive Republican presidential candidate. Following his disastrous first presidential debate that caused his own party to question his race for re-election, Biden told Democratic donors on July 8: "We’re done talking about the debate. It’s time to put Trump in the bull's-eye. We can’t go another day, another day, without explaining what he’s doing, and we have to go after him."Left-leaning Politico admitted that it was a "forceful" message from Biden. "The forceful message from Biden — which was delivered to hundreds of top Democratic donors and bundlers in the president's National Finance Committee — is the latest evidence that the president and his allies are working furiously to stem defections in the party," Politico stated. The first presidential debate was held on June 27, which proved to be catastrophic to President Biden and has provided fodder to calls for him to abandon his 2024 presidential campaign — even by his own party. Biden also told donors it was time to “move forward” and he was “done talking about the debate.” On Saturday, former President Trump was apparently a victim of an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During his rally, shots seemingly rang out and the former President was seen bleeding from his ear. United States Secret Service agents pounced and shielded him from any further potential injuries. Videos and photos show Trump bleeding from his ear. He was defiant after the apparent assassination attempt, raising a fist. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung declared that Trump was thankful to "law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act."Cheung added that Trump is "fine and is being checked out a local medical facility. More details will follow."Citing the U.S. Secret Service, the Associated Press reported that the shooter fired from “an elevated position outside of the rally venue.”One campaign rally attendee is dead, and two are reported critically injured after the shooting at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Secret Service chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement that agents "neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased."Like Blaze News? RNC on next week's convention: The show will go on

The following is a developing story. The Republican National Convention will continue as planned, Blaze News has confirmed. "President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States," a statement from senior campaign advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita read. "As our party's nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again."Former President Donald Trump has reportedly just left the hospital after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Blaze News has heard reports that he’s on his way to Milwaukee but has also heard reports that the president is instead heading to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, which is currently “locked down like Fort Knox.” The convention set to officially nominate him is scheduled to open Monday. Conventions are essentially fortified towns within their host cities, combed by Secret Service as well as federal and local police in the lead-up, and heavily secured. Tens of thousands of delegates, politicians, press, and bystanders are expected for the event, which culminates in the official nomination Thursday night. Trump was wounded in the ear, either by a bullet or, according to some reports, by glass shrapnel from a teleprompter hit by a bullet. One photo reportedly by former White House press corps photographer Doug Mills appears to show a bullet whizzing by the candidate’s head. "I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all Law Enforcement, for their rapid response to the shooting that just took place in Buter, Pennsylvania," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the attack. "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through my skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump hasn’t yet announced his vice presidential candidate. That announcement was rumored to come Monday, but everything is up in the air.
