NewsBusters Podcast: Reporters Admit They Stunk on Biden's Age Problem

CNN media reporter Hadas Gold found some less-than-courageous journalists to admit (anonymously) that they could have done a much better job of reporting on President Biden's cognitive decline before the disastrous debate. But they worried about the "blowback" from Team Biden and from the "liberal Twittersphere." The failure of the media, one White House reporter said, was not pushing more aggressively into Biden’s abilities after the release of the Robert Hur report in February, which called Biden a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” Biden’s age was also a right-wing talking point for years, something the White House was quick to point out to reporters, which may have inadvertently turned off any serious investigation. For example, deceptively edited clips of Biden from the G7 spread widely by right-wing media figures were made to seem as though he was aimlessly “wandering off” from fellow world leaders when really, he was speaking to parachutists who had just landed during a demonstration.“The right-wing media was calling him senile from day one, and that wasn’t true,” the reporter said. “Then whenever you report on the age you were in some ways solidifying, giving credence to some people that were actually of bad faith.” The Pulitzer Prize for understatement could have gone to the reporter who said, “I think the press, most of the White House press, did suffer from a bit of lack of curiosity.”  “It makes sense to reflect on this now and ask whether we missed or, really, under-reported the story of Biden’s age and decline. But it’s complicated,” one of the reporters said. “The fact that the political alternative to Biden is an authoritarian who sparked an insurrection and is a convicted felon does not mean that the press is failing American democracy to focus on Biden’s obvious frailty.” Former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson told the website Semafor that while she didn't like The Wall Street Journal story on Biden "slipping" (too many Republicans in it), "I do think if enough reporters had pushed, the story was reportable. I worry that too many journalists didn’t try to get the story because they did not want to be accused of helping elect Donald Trump. I get that. But this is no excuse for abandoning our first duty, which is to report the truth and hold power accountable. President Biden should be held accountable for his obvious lapses of mental acuity, even if there are periods of lucidity." Enjoy the podcast below, or wherever you listen.

Thugs run over and kill elderly woman after armed robbery attempt on tourist couple outside California mall, police say

An elderly woman was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by armed thugs who had tried to rob her and her husband outside of a high-end mall in Orange County, according to California police. The Newport Beach Police Department said the incident began when two males approached the couple outside of the Barnes and Noble bookstore at Fashion Island shopping center on Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. 'Frankly, to hell with these guys. They knew exactly what they were doing.' The two tried to rob the couple, but they fought back, police said. At that point, police said that a getaway car described as a white Toyota Camry pulled up to the altercation. One of the suspects ran off and fired his gun several times, but no one was injured. When the white Toyota Camry sped away, the driver ran over the woman. “Tragically and unfortunately, she was deceased there in the roadway," said Newport PD Sgt. Steve Oberon. Police said that the suspects in the car were able to find the third suspect who had run off and they then led police on a high-speed chase through Los Angeles that reached up to 110 mph. They then abandoned the car in South Gate and ran off on foot. The three suspects were captured and arrested by police. Oberon could not say what the alleged robbers were after, whether it was jewelry or shopping bags. “All of that will come out in the investigation,” he added. “I don’t have that information at this time.”Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill credited an overwhelming response from law enforcement for the capture of the suspects. “You know, frankly, to hell with these guys,” O’Neill said. “They knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to come into our city to commit a crime and a woman is dead because of it.”Police said the husband was not physically injured in the altercation. The deceased woman was later identified as 68-year-old Patricia McKay. The couple were tourists from New Zealand. The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Leroyernest Joseph McCrary of Compton, 18-year-old Jaden Cunningham of Lancaster, and 18-year-old Malachi Darnell of Los Angeles. Like Blaze News? Biden reportedly tells campaign staffers, 'I'm not leaving'; Democratic Rep. Grijalva suggests Biden should drop out

As President Joe Biden's re-election effort is engulfed in a political firestorm in the wake of the presidential debate, Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona has suggested that Biden should bow out of the presidential contest."What he needs to do is shoulder the responsibility for keeping that seat — and part of that responsibility is to get out of this race," the congressman said, according to the New York Times. The outlet noted that Grijalva described former President Donald Trump as an "anti-democratic, authoritarian despot," but called Biden a "good man" and noted that he will support Biden if he remains in the contest.'I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win.'Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas has called for Biden to drop out of the contest.Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine has said that Trump will win the election. Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington said she believes Biden will lose the race to Trump. But Biden, the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, has indicated that he will not drop out of the race."I'm not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win," Biden stated during a call with campaign staffers, according to the Associated Press. On the other side of the political aisle, GOP Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Clay Higgins of Louisiana are pushing a resolution that urges Vice President Kamala Harris to seek the removal of Biden from power per the 25th Amendment.Like Blaze News?
