Instagram’s ‘Made with AI’ label swapped out for ‘AI info’ after photographers’ complaints

Image: Meta On Monday, Meta announced that it is “updating the ‘Made with AI’ label to ‘AI info’ across our apps, which people can click for more information,” after people complained that their pictures had the tag applied incorrectly. Former White House photographer Pete Souza pointed out the tag popping up on an upload of a photo originally taken on film during a basketball game 40 years ago, speculating that using Adobe’s cropping tool and flattening images might have triggered it. “As we’ve said from the beginning, we’re consistently improving our AI products, and we are working closely with our industry partners on our approach to AI labeling,” said Meta spokesperson Kate McLaughlin. The new label is supposed to more accurately represent that... Continue reading…

Apple already considers the first HomePod ‘vintage’

Photo by James Bareham / The Verge Apple says the iPhone X, first-generation AirPods, and first-generation HomePod are now considered “vintage,” as reported by MacRumors. So, if you own a first-generation HomePod — or multiple, like the person I sold my HomePod to in 2022 — it might sting to hear that Apple already considers the six-year-old speaker “vintage.” Apple’s vintage label technically refers to products that it stopped distributing between more than five and less than seven years ago, and fortunately, you can still get service for vintage products from Apple and authorized repair shops. But Apple seems to be moving the original HomePod on a faster track, given that it only discontinued the product three years ago. Apple didn’t immediately reply to a request for... Continue reading…

iOS 17.6 beta 2 now available with hidden iPhone features in the code

A couple of weeks after seeding iOS 17.6 beta 1, Apple is now releasing its second version to developers. While people's attention is currently on the iOS 18 beta cycle and its upcoming public testing version, it's safer to assume that the next big update iPhone users will get is iOS 17.6. At the moment, iOS 17.6 beta 2 is more about what Apple could add rather than what's already there. According to YouTuber zollotech, Apple plans to bring Lost Mode to Apple Pencil Pro on the Find My app. Besides that, it seems Apple will let users remove their devices from Repair Mode through the Find My app as well. At this moment, you can't do that. For Apple News+, Apple is working on Live Activity support for Home Screen and Lock Screen, so you can keep following games and other factual stories happening at that moment. iOS 17.6 beta 2 is also bringing a new Messages app setting that lets you filtered unknown senders also if they're an international sender. Right now, iOS 17.6 looks like a small update. Unfortunately,iOS 17.5 was also no different, as it brought only a few enhancements: Pride wallpapers: To celebrate Pride 2024, Apple brings “bold, symbolic color to Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad. Signaling hope, strength, and fellowship to LGBTQ+ communities, the beams of light glow against a dark background and stack on top of each other to represent the everlasting impact of LGBTQ+ activism and its role in illuminating the path to greater equality for future generations.” Podcasts widget change: The Podcasts widget has a new dynamic color that changes depending on what you’re listening to. Tracking Notifications: Cross-platform tracking detection delivers notifications to users if a compatible Bluetooth tracker they do not own is moving with them, regardless of what operating system the device is paired with. Apple News+: For Apple News+ (or Apple One subscribers), users can have a new offline mode that gives access to the Today feed and News+ tab even when they don’t have an internet connection. Alongside iOS 17.6 beta 2, Apple is also releasing the second testing versions of iPadOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, macOS 14.6, tvOS 17.6, and visionOS 1.3. We’ll let you know if we find anything new in this beta cycle. Longest Tradition: Australian Cave Holds Evidence of 12,000-year-old Ritual

In societies without writing, archaeologically tracing ethnographically known rituals back more than a few hundred years is rare. However, new archaeological evidence has been gleaned from the foothills of the Australian Alps, uncovering buried miniature fireplaces dating back 11,000 and 12,000 years, containing protruding trimmed wooden artifacts made of Casuarina wood smeared with animal or human fat. Cloggs Cave Investigation At the invitation of Gunai Kurnai Aboriginal Elders, researchers conducted archaeological excavations at Cloggs Cave in the Alpine foothills. In Gunai Kurnai Country, caves were used during the early colonial period (mid-nineteenth century AD) not as residences, but as secluded sites for rituals performed by Aboriginal medicine men and women, known as "mulla-mullung," as documented by ethnographers. The findings of the investigation have been published in the July edition of Nature Human Behavior. These artifacts match the configuration and contents of Gunai Kurnai ritual installations described in nineteenth-century ethnography. The findings represent 500 generations of cultural transmission of a documented ritual practice that dates back to the end of the last ice age and include Australia’s oldest known wooden artifacts. Faye Dunaway’s HBO Documentary Trailer Gives Peek Into Traumatic Childhood

Faye Dunaway‘s upcoming HBO documentary tells all about her Hollywood career and personal life, including her tumultuous childhood, which pushed her to pursue acting as a getaway. The movie trailer was a two-minute clip featuring Faye talking about her mental health growing up and dealing with her parents. Her son, Liam Dunaway O’Neil, also acknowledged the impact of Faye’s upbringing on her parenting style, noting that she is hardly expressive with him. Faye admitted to Liam’s claims, adding that she is working on letting out her emotions. She is learning to find strength in letting things out rather than hiding from her feelings. More on ‘FAYE’ Youtube video screenshot FAYE premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, featuring Sharon Stone and snippets from her hit movies. In a scene, Stone displays her alleged diva behavior, complaining about sitting in the worst chair in the world while doing her hair in front of a mirror held up by staff. During filming, she also shows off her simple but classy style as she struts the streets of Manhattan, New York. RELATED: Faye Dunaway Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles After Claims About Her Being ‘Hard To Work With’ Just before Sharon made her appearance, a voice described Faye as a caring person regardless of the standoffish persona she is accused of portraying. A poolside snap of her younger self in a dress was also displayed, reminding her of when Terry O’Neill presented her with the photo following her Academy Award win for Best Actress. She fondly reminisced about the moment while affirming herself and her contribution to Hollywood history. Youtube video screenshot Struggling with bipolar disorder Faye talked about her mental disorder, which, known to many, negatively impacted her career and relationships as she was deemed hard to work with. She explained that her bipolar disorder diagnosis contributed to her infamously difficult nature, which she is trying to control through therapy and medicine. She also thanked her doctors for helping her manage her condition through medical and therapy. Youtube video screenshot True to her nature, Faye had a hard time getting vulnerable and doing a film about real life without a script. Thankfully, director Laurent Bouzereau helped ease her into the role and it was a success. The 83-year-old was pleased by the results, which she cannot wait to share with her fans this summer.
