Looking for a new job after that Madison Square Garden rally? Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe found himself in the middle of controversy a few weeks ago when he appeared at a rally for former/future President Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The host of the Kill Tony podcast opened the rally with...what else, some jokes. During his 10 minute speech, Tony took aim at the long list of celebrities who had endorsed Kamala Harris, joking that the Democrat party was starting to look like "a P. Diddy party." But it was another joke he made that landed him in hot water with the media: "There's a lot going on. I don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico." Of course Democrats pounced on the joke, citing it as proof that Trump hated Puerto Ricans and predicting that it could costs the Republican nominee support among Hispanic Americans. (Remember, this was a joke from a comedian, one who's known for his roasts and offensive jokes...but please, tell me more about how shocking his jokes are). Well spoiler alert, it didn't end up costing Trump the election, and the only people actually offended by it were Democrats and the media. Trump actually gained in his support among Hispanics from 2020, and I have a feeling nobody was more thankful for that than Tony Hinchcliffe, who no doubt would have been blamed by the media if Trump had ended up losing the election. But anyway, it seems that Tony had a backup plan all along just in case the controversial joke had hurt his career: He could just play drums for Jelly Roll. The comedian made a surprise appearance during a recent stop on Jelly Roll's Beautifully Broken Tour, joining the country superstar on stage during his show at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Before bringing Tony on stage, Jelly Roll praised the comedian for how much he's done for the comedy scene and up-and-coming comedians with his insanely popular live podcast, Kill Tony. And the two also joked about his joke from the Trump rally: "Jokes have been getting me in trouble lately, Jelly Roll." Tony joked that he would just play an instrument, declaring that he could play any of them he wanted because "this shit's easy." He then hopped behind the drums, showing his chops off for the crowd during a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man." @officialjellyrollThe king of 6th Street came and did a little Simple Man with me in Austin ♬ original sound - Jelly Roll Gotta be honest, I had no idea Tony could play the drums, but he killed it. And in a town like Austin, which is not only Tony's hometown but is also the hometown of Joe Rogan and his comedy club The Comedy Mothership, you gotta think the crowd enjoyed seeing one of their own get out there onstage and show off yet another one of his talents.
