“Ella’s Probably Too Smart To Date Me” – Riley Green Once Again Shuts Down Rumors That He’s Dating Ella Langley
Shutting it down.
Riley Green and Ella Langley have had some major success as a duo over the last several with their wildly popular song “You Look Like You Love Me,” which just went #1 at country radio, becoming Ella's very first radio chart-topper.
It's put up crazy streaming numbers, and they even won a CMA for Musical Event of the Year with the smash hit.
And of course, ever since these two have been performing the flirty song onstage many times since it was released, it's naturally led to fans wondering if there's something more going on with them, aside from being friends and duet partners.
In addition to addressing the rumors, Riley explained on The Viall Files: Going Deeper podcast with Nick Viall today how it came to be a duet in the first place, because it was not originally written that way:
"I first heard it from a promoter that kind of helps manage her, a buddy of mine. I was touring in Alabama, and he would put her on some shows of mine. I liked her voice, she's obviously from Alabama, very country which I liked.
And he played the song for me, and it wasn't really pitched to me like it needed to be a duet, he was just like, 'What do you think about this?' And I was like, 'It's cool, like there's something cool about the girl picking up the guy or whatever.'
The second verse was like more of the first verse, and I thought, well, Ella's going on tour with me next year, maybe if the second verse was the guy's perspective or something , we might have a song to play on tour. I had no idea it would be a hit at all. One day, I opened my phone and you couldn't not hear it."
And he's said before that they're just friends, adding that he understands why people love to speculate, because country fans love a good power couple, along the lines of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, as well as George Jones and Tammy Wynette (which didn't exactly end well, but you get the point).
He assured them that he and Ella are just friends, joking that Ella's "too smart" to date him anyways:
"Yeah, I mean, Ella's probably too smart to date me anyway. But I think that's kind of the country music fan, like, they love the Tim McGraw and Faith, and the George and Tammy. And when we fist started having the success we did with that song, I kinda told Ella, I was like, 'There's gonna be a lot of things said, but I mean, you don't really have to play into it or not play into it, its gonna be something people enjoy the same way we do when we go listen to those songs.'
It's cool to have that one and have that moment onstage with her every night. The title track to my album is called 'Don't Mind If I Do,' and that's a really big song, so it's cool to have that one with her and that's a completely different type of song."
There ya have it, folks.
