“He Said It Was Too F***ing Heavy” – How Keith Urban Came To Own Waylon Jennings’ Iconic Guitar

Keith Urban can absolutely shred a guitar - in case you didn't know. There's a case for Keith to be considered country music's best guitarist. I don't want to start any debates by saying that... but I'm just trying to put that out there. Urban at least deserves some credit for being able to work a guitar like no other, and we'll leave it at that. We'll actually use it as a transition to talk about Urban's vintage guitar collection. He was recently asked about it while he was a guest on Premier Guitar's Shred with Shifty, hosted by Foo Fighters guitar player Chris Shiflett, and he admitted that he loves owning guitars just as much as he loves playing them: "Guitars I've always loved the sound and feel of, and I was able to acquire a few." The guitar that likely stands out above the rest in Keith's collection is Waylon Jennings' leather bound telecaster. Broadcaster, really. It's been rumored that he owned the iconic instrument, and Urban confirmed that he owns one of the two that exist: "I do. It's at my house. One of two, I think his son Shooter Jennings has the other one. I loan it out to people. Certain really good guitar players that I trust want to take it out, use it for different things or use it in a video or something." So how did Keith Urban end up with it? Well, country music's outlaw legend first gifted it to a musician named Reggie Young. Reggie played on recordings with the likes of Elvis Presley, John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, George Strait and at one point, the Highwaymen. It was while he was touring with Cash, Kristofferson, Nelson, and Jennings that the guitar was given to him by Waylon himself: "It was owned by Reggie Young, who is a great session player. Reggie was touring with the Highwaymen in the '90s in the house band for them... the touring band. He told me the story that Waylon came in one day into his hotel room with this case and just said, 'Hoss, I want you to have that.' And he opens up the case and its this leather bound Tele... and it's actually not a Tele its a Broadcaster, which is insane. I didn't know that when I got the guitar until I got the guitar. It's a 1950 Broadcaster. And I used the word gifted up there, but the better way of explaining Waylon giving it Reggie would probably be to call it "pawning it off." You see, Waylon liked the guitar, but he had one big problem with it that ultimately led him to be okay parting ways with it: "He just gave it to Reggie, and the only reason he said he gave it to him... he said it was 'too f**king heavy.' That's what he said. That's what he told Reggie. And it does. It weighs a ton. So Reggie had it for the next 20-plus years and then decided it was time for him to sell it. He auctioned it, and I wish I would have known about this guitar because I would have saved him the hassle of him auctioning it." Pretty funny story, right? Almost as funny as the anecdote of Keith Urban buying the guitar from Reggie Young through an auction. Keith's wife, actress Nicole Kidman, was wanting to get it for him as a gift once she found out it was up for auction, and she made sure Keith couldn't figure out how to register to bid on it so that she could get it for him as a surprise. Keith was never able to place a bid on the guitar and thought it had been bought by someone out in the world who would hide it away, but he was wrong: "I was heartbroken because I had just imagined this amazing guitar is now gone, probably overseas somewhere. It's probably in somebody's vault or under someone's bed and we'll never see it again. And then my wife walks in and goes, 'I just got you Waylon Jennings' guitar.' I was just... it was insane. It's just a beautiful sounding, beautiful playing guitar. But it is really heavy." Waylon was evidently right in complaining about the weight. You can hear Keith Urban talk more about his prized possession in the interview below: https://youtu.be/htXqfEH8hFs?si=tJ0e1Zfwhgxo_VDs&t=230

Poll: Majority of Americans Back Ending Military Aid to Ukraine

A CBS News/YouGov poll has revealed that most Americans support ending U.S. military aid to Ukraine.  The poll, which was conducted November 19–22, found that 51 percent of Americans believe that the United States should not send further weapons or military aid to Ukraine. At the same time, 49 percent of Americans back further military aid to Ukraine. The finding comes at a time that the Biden administration has rapidly escalated the conflict, approving Ukrainian strikes into Russia with U.S. missiles and giving antipersonnel landmines to Ukraine. The poll found that an even higher number, 79 percent, believe that finding ways to limit aid to Ukraine should be a priority for President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team. Thirty-three percent said that it should be a high priority, while another 36 percent held it to be a medium priority. The poll also showed support for other elements of Trump’s agenda. According to it, 52 percent of Americans favor increased tariffs, though 59 percent believe that tariffs will lead to higher prices. On immigration, the poll revealed that 57 percent back a program to find and deport illegal aliens currently in the U.S. The poll also found that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the most popular of Trump’s cabinet picks, with 47 percent listing Kennedy as a good pick for Health and Human Services Secretary, while 34 percent believe him to be a bad pick. Marco Rubio was found to be the second most popular cabinet pick, with 44 percent approving of his selection as secretary of state, while only 25 percent disapprove. The Collapse of Anti-Trump Lawfare

Jack Smith has moved to dismiss the 2020 election-interference case against Trump. Biden-Harris Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith has formally asked Judge Tanya Chutkan to dismiss the so-called January 6 case — the 2020 election-interference prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump. In consultation with DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), Smith determined that the long-standing DOJ guidance on criminal proceedings against a sitting president dictated that...

How the 'magic' 5:1 ratio can be the key to marital bliss

Have you ever wondered whether you fight too much or are snippy too often with your significant other? Conflict is normal in long-term relationships, but when do too many negative interactions become harmful? The interesting (and helpful) thing is that a ratio reveals the number of negative versus positive interactions one should have with one's spouse. The ratio was created by Dr. John Gottman, who known for conducting studies in which he and his team could predict whether a couple would get divorced with 94% accuracy. What is the 5:1 ratio for relationships?Gottman says that in healthy couples, there should be, at minimum, 5 positive interactions for every negative one. "The difference between happy and unhappy couples is the balance between positive and negative interactions during conflict,” Gottman said. “There is a very specific ratio that makes love last. That ‘magic ratio’ is 5 to 1. This means that for every negative interaction during conflict, a stable and happy marriage has five (or more) positive interactions."The underlying message is that unhappy couples tend to engage in fewer positive interactions and if their positive-to-negative ratio drops to 1-to-1 or less, they may be headed for divorce. A happily married couple.via Canva/PhotosWhat are some examples of negative interactions with your spouse?Invalidating themNot doing a task you told your partner you would doFailing to listen Rejecting a bid for connection, such as a hug or a conversationRaising your voiceRolling your eyesForgetting events or milestones that are important to your partnerGottman also stresses in his research that when couples communicate negatively using the “Four Horsemen,” the relationship may be headed for divorce. The Four Horsemen are Defensiveness, Criticism, Contempt, or Stonewalling. “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a metaphor depicting the end of times in the New Testament,” Gottman’s website reads. “They describe conquest, war, hunger, and death, respectively. We use this metaphor to describe communication styles that, according to our research, can predict the end of a relationship. The 5:1 ratio provides married people with a good baseline on what constitutes a healthy relationship and a good idea of when the relationship has become too negative. After all, none of us are perfect, and we all deserve grace. But how much is too much? The ratio reminds us that we can all improve our relationships by striving to have more positive interactions than negative ones. Even if your ratio is high and healthy, there’s nothing wrong with trying your best to do better for your and your partner. A happily married couple.via Canva/PhotosWhat are some examples of positive interactions you can have with your spouse?Be affectionateShow appreciationActively listen when they speakDo something that relieves their stress level, whether it’s a chore or helping with the kidsBe thoughtful through small gestures that let you know you’re thinking of them.Validate their feelingsBe empathetic, especially during conflictRemember, just because you disagree with your spouse doesn’t mean it has to be a negative experience. “When the masters of marriage are talking about something important,” Dr. Gottman says, “they may be arguing, but they are also laughing and teasing and there are signs of affection because they have made emotional connections.”
