Sens. Daines, Paul Join Republican Effort to Stop Democrat Agenda Post-Trump Verdict

Two more Republican senators are joining the effort to stop the Senate Democrats’ agenda Wednesday in response to former President Donald Trump‘s guilty verdict in a New York trial. Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., are signing on to a Senate Republican letter vowing to oppose Democratic legislative priorities, a spokeswoman told The Daily Signal. Eleven Republican senators vowed to oppose Democrats’ legislative priorities and nominations in a letter released Friday. “Enough is enough,” Daines said in an emailed statement to The Daily Signal Wednesday. “Joe Biden and his Democrat allies weaponized our judicial system and undermined the American people’s trust in our government. I will not stand by as the Left’s radical agenda tears apart the fabric of our nation and threatens our Montana way of life.” Paul’s office did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment by time of publication. The senators’ letter accuses the White House of making “a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally alter[ing] our politics in un-American ways.” “As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart,” the letter reads. “To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people.” With Daines and Paul, the letter now has 13 signatories: Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont. In a press conference Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated that he would not be signing on. “The solution is to have a Republican majority and then we be in a position to determine what the agenda was going to be,” he said. “There are opportunities when you’re in the minority, but not to set the agenda.” Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is still deciding if he will join on, a spokesperson told the Cedar Rapids Gazette. “Sen. Grassley is reviewing the letter and will confer with colleagues about its potential impacts on the legislative and appropriations process,” Grassley’s office said. Rob Bluey contributed to this report. The post Sens. Daines, Paul Join Republican Effort to Stop Democrat Agenda Post-Trump Verdict appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Amid New Cognitive Questions, Edits to Biden Transcript Color Lawsuit Over Recording

In the transparency case over a recording of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur, a lower court ruling could reach a verdict in August, one involved lawyer says. But he says that “fevered, emergency appeals” are likely to follow, regardless of the outcome. Biden invoked executive privilege to shield release of the audio recording, although an edited transcript has been released of interviews in which the president showed “diminished capacities,” according to Hur’s report on Biden’s possession of classified documents. “They altered their released transcript, which is a very big deal in that the arguments they’ve been making for not releasing the audio is that the transcript is already out there and you don’t need the audio,” Mike Howell, executive director of The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.  ?WHITE HOUSE ADMITS THEY DOCTORED BIDEN’S CRIMINAL TRANSCRIPT?After being forced into Federal court by us, the White House admits they altered evidence to make Biden appear less incompetent This case has been blown wide open https://t.co/lVHs5w4wPX pic.twitter.com/5xtIsPcVTV— Oversight Project (@OversightPR) June 1, 2024 “Now we know those are two different things,” Howell told reporters of the White House’s position. “They claim some of the edits they made were for duplicative words or pauses. But their statement wasn’t universal in that ‘we only made changes.’ We are not sure what the universe of edits that they made are.” In February, Hur released his report on Biden’s improper possession of classified documents from his vice presidency and Senate tenure. Hur declined to charge the president, in part because of what he called “diminished faculties” evident during his interviews with Biden.  The Justice Department contends that only slight edits were made to the transcript, but released the court filing late Friday, when it was less likely to gain news attention. Meanwhile, White House counsel’s spokesman Ian Sams argued that career officials at the Justice Department, not the White House, determined what was deleted or edited. Participants in private meetings with 81-year-old President Biden say he has shown signs of slipping. The White House says he’s sharp and his critics are playing partisan politics. https://t.co/niiogqMxst https://t.co/niiogqMxst— The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) June 5, 2024 The Wall Street Journal published a story late Tuesday with 45 interviews of Republican and Democrat lawmakers, as well as White House staffers, many anonymous, who questioned the 81-year-old president’s cognitive ability. “The most interesting thing about The Wall Street Journal article is the reaction to it,” Howell said, referring to White House spokesman Andrew Bates’ attacking the story. Howell added: “It’s that kind of panic that has been the norm for this White House. It’s that panic that dripped off the pages of the DOJ’s filings last Friday night.”  "With a header like that, you might think the Journal really has the goods""But no. Who does the Journal have? Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson. And former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy." "a blatant hit piece from Republicans" https://t.co/SDu28Asum7— Andrew Bates (@AndrewJBates46) June 5, 2024 Also plaintiffs along with The Heritage Foundation in the lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act are CNN, The Associated Press, and Judicial Watch. Both the government and the plaintiffs likely will file court briefs by July 29; arguments and a ruling in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia will follow shortly after, Sam Dewey, counsel for Heritage’s Oversight Project, said in the press call.  But the matter will be appealed, no matter the outcome, so the case might go beyond the November presidential election.  “The case will be fully briefed on July 29. We would expect the judge to hear arguments and issue a decision fairly promptly thereafter, at which point, no matter what he does, I would expect fevered emergency litigation like you’ve seen in other cases, in the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court,” Dewey said.   Congress also is seeking an audio recording of Hur’s interviews of Biden.  During testimony Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, a defiant Attorney General Merrick Garland said he would “not be intimidated” into releasing the audio by a contempt of Congress citation. The Justice Department also contends that the audio recording of Biden’s interviews could be used as a “deep fake” if released to the public.  However, one leading Democrat, Senate Intelligence Chairman Mark Warner of Virginia, said the recording should be released with some type of watermark to prevent a deep fake, The Associated Press reported.  Howell said making the recording public is likely the best way to ensure against a doctored version.  “It goes without saying that there are decades of Joe Biden’s voice that are already in the public record that could be used for the purposes of a deep fake,” Howell said. “If there is truly an interest in a deep fake not being out there, the most responsible thing DOJ can do would be to release an authentic copy.” The post Amid New Cognitive Questions, Edits to Biden Transcript Color Lawsuit Over Recording appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Neil deGrasse Tyson FURIOUS as host destroys his pro-transgender athlete narrative

Neil deGrasse Tyson may be a 65-year-old famous astrophysicist, but that isn’t stopping him from behaving like a child when someone points out obvious facts about the difference between men and women. “It is a little weird that we split people by male and female in this way. I’m imagining a hundred years from now, looking back and saying, ‘Do you know, back a hundred years ago they split boys and girls and they couldn’t compete?'” Tyson said on a podcast with Michael Shermer. “I could imagine that too,” Shermer said, clearly trying to be nice before blowing up Tyson’s argument. “But the differences are so massive on average.” Tyson then threw his arms up in the air and attempted to interrupt Shermer, while Shermer continued, “The average woman wrestler is not going to be able to take down you when you were in your peak.” “You’re an old man on the porch in a rocking chair,” Tyson said. “You are criticizing something that is in need of modification.” Dave Rubin can’t believe he’s seeing Tyson go “woke.” “The only way in a hundred years we would look back and think it’s archaic to have boys and girls competing separately is if we’ve drugged all of the girls,” Rubin says. “At this point, I’m fearful that somebody might think that’s a good idea,” Sage Steele adds.
