Did They Ever Fix Redfall? | Gaming Lit 101

Redfall was an absolute mess when it launched and now, over a year later, Arkane Austin has been closed meaning that the game won't be receiving any more updates. Just because the game has had an extra year of dev time through its various updates, it doesn't mean that the game is "fixed."

The future of Netflix games could look like reality TV

Image: Netflix Netflix is continuously adding to its diverse portfolio of games, announcing a new slate of titles set to launch on the platform this summer and beyond. And while the “serious gamer” might be enticed by the pending arrival of The Case of the Golden Idol or Don’t Starve Together — games that have enjoyed success on other platforms — it’s interactive fiction games that are the most exciting both for Netflix and its gaming community. “Expanding the worlds of beloved Netflix series and films is our greatest opportunity in games,” wrote Leanne Loombe, head of external games at Netflix, in a recent blog post. Everybody’s getting into gaming right now. The New York Times, LinkedIn, YouTube, and now possibly even Uber are offering games as a... Continue reading…

Apple Watch finally lets you monitor blood sugar, but you’ll need a Dexcom G7

The feature I want most for the Apple Watch is real-time blood sugar monitoring. It's something Apple and other tech companies are rumored to be working on. The ability to check your blood glucose on the fly will be a game-changer. It'll help patients better manage their diabetes by providing blood sugar data immediately without needing to draw blood. This could improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and significantly improve treatment. They'll know whether to eat to prevent blood glucose from crashing or take insulin to keep it in check. I don't have diabetes, but I'd use the Apple Watch's ability to read blood sugar to manage my health and reduce the risk of developing it. I'd know whether I need to eat to compensate for a harder training session or whether I'm overdoing it again with ice cream. There's no telling when the Apple Watch might get that capability. Starting now, however, it can still be a useful tool for real-time blood sugar monitoring. You'll just need to use your watch along with the Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM). That's a tiny device that sticks to your skin and sends readings to your smart devices. It has been available for some time, and it works with an iPhone app. But the new trick is the ability to send information directly to your Apple Watch over Bluetooth, without needing an iPhone to be close by. Continue reading... The post Apple Watch finally lets you monitor blood sugar, but you’ll need a Dexcom G7  appeared first on BGR. Apple says it finally fixed the Screen Time bug that let kids see blocked websites

It's been a few years parents have been complaining about bugs with the iPhone's Screen Time. This feature is helpful for parents to limit the amount of time children can stay on some apps, block access to websites, and even for those trying to keep their bank data safe if they get robbed. The last time BGR reported on bugs regarding Screen Time was in 2023 with iOS 16.6. At the time, after updating to this version, parents couldn't set restrictions on their kids' devices. With iOS 16.6.1, Apple said it fixed this issue. “We are aware that some users may be experiencing an issue where Screen Time settings are unexpectedly reset,” an Apple spokeswoman said. “We take these reports very seriously, and we have been, and will continue, making updates to improve the situation.” However, while this might have been a fix for a few users, others have continued reporting this and other bugs. At least, this is what The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern reports in her latest story. According to her, two security researchers have reported a bug to Apple since 2021 that lets kids visit blocked sites. After Stern contacted Cupertino, the company said it would fix this issue, which apparently has been solved with iOS 17.5.1. Still, the journalist says these Screen Time improvements aren't enough, as she – and many other users – have reported a list of issues, including: App limits: Often don't work. An hour limit on Instagram expires, and Instagram still works Screen usage chart: Often inaccurate or blank Time and app requests: Stern says it doesn't get them To the journalist, an Apple spokeswoman said: "We take reports of issues regarding Screen Time very seriously and have been consistently making improvements to ensure users have the best experience. Our work is not done, and we will continue to make updates in upcoming software releases." Will Apple fix them with iOS 18, or will the company release a new iOS 17.5 update? Next week, during WWDC 2024, we might learn more about what Cupertino has in store for Screen Time.
