Matt Gaetz Hints At Future Political Aspirations?

Matt Gaetz, who resigned from Congress before withdrawing his name for consideration as attorney general, teased a potential run for Florida governor. Former Florida State Rep. Anthony Sabatini said on X that “Matt Gaetz will be the next Governor of the State of Florida.” Gaetz responded by posting a GIF of a waving Florida flag. https://t.co/yDMNvCAGJm pic.twitter.com/Z8mPniNUeS — Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) November 23, 2024 “Whats next?” Gaetz asked in another post. Whats next? pic.twitter.com/KyH966rUFD — Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) November 24, 2024 In an interview with Charlie Kirk, Gaetz confirmed he does not intend on returning to the House of Representatives. “I’m still gonna be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress,” Gaetz said. WATCH: THE CHARLIE KIRK SHOW EXCLUSIVE MATT GAETZ: "I'm still gonna be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch. Per NBC News: Gaetz noted he has been in elected office for 14 years, having first been elected to Florida’s state House when he was 28 years old. “I’m 42 now, and I’ve got other goals in life that I’m eager to pursue — my wife and my family — and so I’m going to be fighting for President Trump,” he said. “I’m going to be doing whatever he asks of me, as I always have. But I think that eight years is probably enough time in the United States Congress.” Gaetz said it seems like “a pretty poetic time to allow that great new blood to come in, to allow my district to have high-quality representation.” He also alluded to playing a continued role in Trump’s plans, without getting into specifics. “We need a leadership structure under President Trump that’s going to allow for durability of our movement and the ability to continue this great realignment of our politics, and so I’ll play a part in that,” he said. “I plan to be a big voice, but maybe not as an elected member of the government.” According to reports, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose term ends in January 2027, will not appoint Gaetz to the Sunshine State’s vacant U.S. Senate seat. “Matt Gaetz appears to tease a run for Governor of Florida,” Benny Johnson said. Matt Gaetz teases run for Florida governor https://t.co/vx5Eiom0cQ pic.twitter.com/1bkR40PoOX — New York Post (@nypost) November 24, 2024 From the New York Post: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited from seeking re-election. Gaetz announced Thursday he was no longer a candidate to run the Justice Department, causing some Republicans to question whether he’d attempt to reclaim the House seat he was re-elected to earlier this month or seek a different position — including potentially lobbying to take over for Marco Rubio in the Senate once Rubio resigns to become Trump’s secretary of state. Gaetz resigned from the lame-duck 118th Congress immediately after Trump announced his choice of the lawmaker as AG Nov. 13, but he left the door open to taking his seat in the 119th Congress, which convenes Jan. 3. If Gaetz decides he wants to return to House, he will have to contend with an ethics probe into allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. Gaetz has denied wrongdoing.

NFL Players Receive Leaguewide Security Alert

The National Football League (NFL) issued a security alert to teams and the players’ union following multiple burglaries to league stars. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs each reported burglaries involving their homes. In a memo obtained by the Associated Press, the league said homes of professional athletes across multiple sports have become “increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.” “The NFL issued a security alert Wednesday about organized and skilled criminals — believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate — who are targeting pro athletes, including recent burglaries at the homes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce,” Tom Pelissero said. Players were told to take precautions and implement home security measures to reduce the risk of being targeted. Some of the burglary groups have conducted extensive surveillance on targets, including attempted home deliveries and posing as grounds maintenance or joggers in the neighborhood. Burglars have entered through side doors, via balconies, or second-floor windows. They’ve targeted homes in secluded areas and focus on master bedrooms and closet areas. Players were warned to avoid updating any social media with check-ins or daily activities until the end of the day. Posting expensive items on social media is discouraged. Dianna Russini, senior NFL insider for The Athletic, shared the memo. The break-ins happened just before and the day of Kansas City’s 26-13 home victory over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7, where Kelce’s superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift watched from the stands. No injuries were reported in either case.

Iconic Game Show Host Passes Away At 83

Legendary game show host Chuck Woolery, known for shows such as “Wheel of Fortune,” “Love Connection,” and “Scrabble,” has passed away. He was 83. Woolery was the first host of “Wheel of Fortune.” “It is with a broken heart that I tell you that my dear brother @chuckwoolery has just passed away. Life will not be the same without him, RIP brother,” Dr. Mark Young said. It is with a broken heart that I tell you that my dear brother @chuckwoolery has just passed away. Life will not be the same without him,RIP brother pic.twitter.com/OVPgG195RX — Dr. Mark Young (@MarkYoungTruth) November 24, 2024 The Associated Press said Woolery “later became a right-wing podcaster, skewering liberals and accusing the government of lying about COVID-19.” Per TMZ: Chuck’s longtime friend and podcast cohost Mark Young tells TMZ … he was at Chuck’s home in Texas when Chuck said he wasn’t feeling well and went to lie down. He came back to the room a short time later and said he was having trouble breathing. 911 was called, but Woolery did not make it. Game show enthusiasts will be very familiar with Chuck’s work … with Woolery’s big break coming in 1975 when he became the first host of “Wheel of Fortune.” He hosted the show until 1981 when he left due to a salary dispute and Pat Sajak took over the job. He went on to host “Love Connection,” “Scrabble” and a revival of “The Dating Game.” Chuck Woolery, the charismatic game show host who kicked off the long run of #WheelOfFortune before spending 11 years playing matchmaker on #LoveConnection, has died. In 1983, Woolery began an 11-year run as host of TV’s “Love Connection,” for which he coined the phrase, “We’ll be back in two minutes and two seconds,” a two-fingered signature dubbed the “2 and 2.” In 1984, he hosted TV’s “Scrabble,” simultaneously hosting two game shows on TV until 1990. “Love Connection,” which aired long before the dawn of dating apps, had a premise that featured either a single man or single woman who would watch audition tapes of three potential mates and then pick one for a date. A couple of weeks after the date, the guest would sit with Woolery in front of a studio audience and tell everybody about the date. The audience would vote on the three contestants, and if the audience agreed with the guest’s choice, “Love Connection” would offer to pay for a second date. Woolery told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2003 that his favorite set of lovebirds was a man aged 91 and a woman aged 87. “She had so much eye makeup on, she looked like a stolen Corvette. He was so old he said, ‘I remember wagon trains.’ The poor guy. She took him on a balloon ride.” Other career highlights included hosting the shows “Lingo,” “Greed” and “The Chuck Woolery Show,” as well as hosting the short-lived syndicated revival of “The Dating Game” from 1998 to 2000 and an ill-fated 1991 talk show. In 1992, he played himself in two episodes of TV’s “Melrose Place.”
