The Democrats want to run for office on the issue of “democracy” because they think the Republicans are somehow opposed to it. They never sound stranger than when they warn that a reelected Donald Trump will use the powers of government for revenge on his political enemies. They can’t grasp the fact that many voters see a vast conspiracy of partisan prosecutors trying to convict and imprison Trump before the election as a way of ending Trump’s political career forever. That can be seen as revenge for Trump defeating Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2016. The media elite endlessly promote these prosecutions, implying each of them could be politically lethal, but somehow, none of them are. They have promoted elected Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg‘s trial as a “hush money criminal trial.” Putting the word “criminal” next to “Trump” is one of their favorite tactics. Curtis Houck at Newsbusters examined every story and mention of this Trump trial for 38 days, starting with the morning of jury selection on April 15, on ABC, CBS, and NBC—their morning and evening newscasts and Sunday politics programs. The three networks offered 573 minutes and 25 seconds of breathless coverage. ABC dominated the competition with almost 237 minutes of coverage in its three formats. The incessantly negative tone was set by ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, who worked as a spin controller for Bill Clinton, who was himself a tornado of scandals. NBC aired 199 minutes, and CBS came in third with 138 minutes of coverage. “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King expressed her worry “that the audience just hears white noise when they hear all these cases running together.” They sound frantic and upset that the audience won’t accept all their must-vote-for-Biden energy. One reason this sounds like white noise is that the networks aren’t fair and balanced on ethical messes. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., faced a corruption trial starting with jury selection on May 13, but in the NewsBusters study period, there was only seven minutes and 56 seconds of Menendez coverage. That’s 72 times less than the Trump trial. ABC spent nearly four hours on the Trump trial, but only gave Menendez’s trial 23 seconds. This pattern doesn’t bode well for the start of the Hunter Biden trial on June 3 for illegal gun possession. Republicans can see that the networks are national messaging machines for the Democrats. Independents and Democrats can see that they’re paying attention to the pattern. The media seek to damage the Republicans and perform damage control for their allies. Too often, the newscasters seem to be offering not political news, but the political weather, and for Trump, it’s always dark and … Stormy. It almost doesn’t matter if any of these prosecutions are successful. The Mueller investigation wasn’t successful in “getting” Trump. But it succeeded if the goal was to rain constantly on Trump’s parade. For his entire presidency and post-presidency, Trump’s coverage is routinely 90% negative, and a big reason is all this prosecutorial aggression. The same pattern can be observed with congressional hearings. The Nancy Pelosi-picked panel that investigated Jan. 6 was rewarded with live coverage of every minute of their propagandistic presentations. But when the Republicans took the House speaker’s gavel from Pelosi, their oversight hearings into Joe Biden’s ethical problems didn’t get live coverage. Often, they drew zero coverage. The contrast is so obvious that no one with a television should attempt to argue that the media are objective, or nonpartisan, or fair. This is just the latest sordid spectacle that reaches back to Richard Nixon and Watergate, through Ronald Reagan and Iran-Contra, and even George W. Former President Donald Trump has put the issue of world government at the forefront of the 2024 presidential race, vowing to “protect American sovereignty” and the U.S. Constitution from the designs of unelected global bureaucrats. Trump took aim at global governance institutions in general, and the World Health Organization specifically, on Saturday, promising to shred and annul the WHO Pandemic Agreement unless President Joe Biden submits the document to the U.S. Senate for ratification, as required for treaties. “As we speak, Joe Biden’s minions are in Geneva, secretly negotiating to surrender more of our liberty to the World Health Organization,” Trump told the Libertarian National Convention, eliciting a fulsome chorus of boos. “Drafts of the agreement show that they want to subjugate America to foreign nations, attack free speech, [and] empower the World Health Organization to redistribute American resources.” Multiple drafts of the proposed accord show the WHO limiting national sovereignty by demanding nations follow its regulations on “routine immunization” and “social measures,” turn over 20% of all vaccines for global redistribution, and abide by the agreement’s terms even after they withdraw. “They’re going to take our money and send it all over the world to other countries that we need for our own citizens,” in the event of a pandemic, Trump told the crowd in Washington on Saturday, warning that a pandemic “could happen again” in the United States. His comments came just days after the Department of Health and Human Services took the first steps to deny future federal grants to the EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S.-based nongovernmental organization that funded gain-of-function research at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology before the COVID-19 pandemic. “I will protect American sovereignty from the creeping hands of global government,” promised Trump. By contrast, the Biden administration has signaled its desire to sign the agreement, which WHO downgraded from a “legally-binding treaty” after Biden realized the U.S. Senate would never ratify the controversial document. “I am hereby demanding that Joe Biden submit these monstrosities to the Senate as treaties,” declared Trump on Saturday. “If he does not, I will rip them up and throw them out on Day One of the Trump administration.” Opposition to the WHO pandemic treaty-turned-agreement has spread throughout America, including all 49 Republican U.S. senators, two dozen Republican governors, and 22 state attorneys general. “The globalists are making a run over American sovereignty,” said Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., on the most recent episode of “This Week on the Hill,” hosted by Tony Perkins. “We can’t allow these global organizations to dictate to us what our policy is going to be.” Although the body tasked with drawing up the agreement, the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body, failed to finalize its text before the World Health Assembly commenced its annual meeting in Geneva on Monday, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus insisted the globalists would eventually prevail. “I remain confident that you still will” complete the global power transfer and have it adopted, he told delegates Monday. “Where there is a will, there is a way.”  But the internationalists compiling the sovereignty-destroying agreement will proceed from a radically government-centered philosophy alien to the American founding, experts say. “Some of these nations come from a very different governance perspective than the United States,” one which “says it’s normal to look to the federal government to deal with these problems,” Travis Weber, vice president for policy and government affairs at Family Research Council—who is currently in Geneva monitoring the World Health Assembly proceedings—told guest host and former Rep. Jody Hice on “Washington Watch” Tuesday. “Constitutionally, there are areas enumerated to the federal government under our Constitution. If they’re not, the issue in theory should be left to the states,” Weber told Hice. “We have a philosophy of government going back to our founding which depends on a self-governing, moral, and religious people. So, this really sets the stage for people in the United States to say, ‘Why should the federal government be tackling [this] issue in the first place?’” Trump also cited constitutionalist themes in his pitch for libertarians to endorse his candidacy at Saturday’s convention. “I unbound the United States from globalist agreements that surrendered our sovereignty. I withdrew from the Paris accord. I withdrew from the anti-gun U.N. arms treaty. And I withdrew from the corrupt and very expensive World Health Organization,” said Trump, emphasizing that any institution of global governance is “not a good thing, not a good thing.” Trump delivered a message precision-targeted to libertarian concerns. “Marxism is an evil doctrine straight from the ashes of hell,” said Trump. “We believe that the job of the United States military is not to wage endless regime change wars around the globe.” “We will shut down our out-of-control federal Department of Education and give it back to the states and local governments. I will return power to the states, local governments, and to the American people. I am a believer in the 10th Amendment,” said Trump. “I will always defend religious liberty and the right to keep and bear arms. And I will secure our elections.” Trump also pledged to put a libertarian in his Cabinet and in senior posts of his administration. “What you’re witnessing under Biden is a toxic fusion of the Marxist Left, the deep state, the military-industrial complex, the government security and surveillance service, and their partners all merging together into a hideous perversion of the American system,” he said. Libertarian Party Chair Angela McArdle also invited Biden and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to address the convention. RFK Jr., who has said the WHO Pandemic Agreement “should be dead in the water,” delivered extended remarks to the delegates Friday afternoon. Biden demurred. Former Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy, former Rep. Ron Paul, and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, also spoke at the convention. Trump vied for the party’s backing, quoting at length a Deroy Murdock article, “The Libertarian Case for Donald J. Trump,” and encouraging delegates to nominate him—but only “if you want to win. If you want to lose, don’t do that. Keep getting your 3% every four years.” The 3.3% of the 2016 vote, won by former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, a Republican, actually represented an outlier for the Libertarian Party, which typically claims to 0.5%-1% of the presidential electorate. Ultimately, the collected Libertarian Party delegates nominated Chase Oliver, an Atlanta-based activist who describes himself as “pro-police reform, pro-choice,” as well as “armed and gay.” Oliver supported COVID-19 lockdowns and mask mandates, opposed bills protecting minors from transgender injections and surgeries, and posed with a drag queen. The Georgian, who forced a runoff in the 2022 Senate race that saw Democrat Raphael Warnock defeat Republican Herschel Walker, plans to gear his campaign toward young people, “in particular those who are upset with the war going on in Gaza.” Some hope liberty-minded voters will ignore the Libertarian Party’s official endorsement and support Trump out of prudence. Walter Block, an economics professor and prolific libertarian author, urged libertarians in swing states to vote for the 45th president this November. “In Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, we could make the difference,” wrote Block in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Tuesday. On Tuesday, CNN This Morning host Kasie Hunt asked former White House correspondent Margaret Talev which major party candidate would suffer the most damage if Robert Kennedy Jr. were on the ballot in November. With the presidential election drawing near, RFK Jr. Kennedy was at 15 percent in the polls. Hunt described RFK Jr. as “dangerous” for the Biden team after he reportedly met the requirements to get on the Michigan ballot, a critical state President Biden was faltering in. Former President Donald Trump and Kennedy attended the Libertarian Party’s convention last Saturday as they worked to potentially win over third-party voters. Talev noted that Trump “has made inroads into the Libertarian Party just as he has made some inroads into every facet of American politics” but followed that by saying Kennedy has the potential to be a “spoiler” in the upcoming presidential election.     When Hunt asked Talev which majority party candidate would suffer the most damage if Kennedy was on the ballot, her answer speculated that both candidates would be affected. Talev stated that he was seen, by swing voters, as a middle ground between Trump and Biden’s policies. Describing him as a “fascination to many” who may not know his policies or stances on certain issues outside of knowing the “Kennedy” family name. Hunt discusses how “dangerous” it would be for the Biden administration if RFK Jr. was to be on the Michigan ballot. “How dangerous is that for the Biden team considering that there are so many people there who are so unhappy with what's going on in terms of Gaza and Biden there?” she wondered. The RFK Jr. campaign announced last month that the Natural Law Party, a minor party with ballot access, nominated them in the state of Michigan. Michigan, typically a blue state, voted 50.6 percent for Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Michigan has the highest percentage of Arab Americans at 2.1 percent which is one of the reasons why Talev claims that Michigan is a crucial state to win in the election. Many young adults in Michigan are inclined to vote for the candidate who will assist the Palestinian civilians. The state also has the highest number of United Auto Workers in America rounding out at 600,000 individuals working in the manufacturing industry. Talev ends by saying, “But right now, the concern really is not just Arab American voters but younger voters and the fact that so many of the auto union workers that were once strongly affiliated with the Democratic Party could now be susceptible to at least a white male auto workers.” Hunt responded to this statement by claiming that “it happened in 2016” despite the UAW Union endorsing Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. His attempt to win over third-party voters clearly did not go as planned but it does show that his campaign is focused on critical third-party voters in November. And there is, of course, one third-party candidate in particular that both Trump and President Biden have voiced concern about, and that is Robert Kennedy Jr. It's worth noting neither Trump nor RFK Jr. won the Libertarian Party nomination over the weekend. Joining me now, Axios senior contributor, Margaret Talev. Margaret, good morning. MARGARET TALEV (SENIOR CONTRIBUTOR, AXIOS, DIRECTOR, INSTITUTE FOR DEMOCRACY, JOURNALISM AND CITIZENSHIP, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY): Good morning. HUNT: Can we start with what we saw? TALEV: Oh. HUNT: I mean, Donald Trump is never on a stage where he gets booed like that. He clearly wasn't happy about it. TALEV: Yeah. I don't think that was the reception he thought he was going to get there. But the reality is that he has made inroads into the Libertarian Party just as he has made some inroads into every facet of American politics. And I think he thought if he can go there and court Libertarian voters who are sort of leaning more Trump, even if he was not going to capture a nomination, it would be worth courting those voters. I think another big part of what he was trying to do was just not cede that floor to RFK Jr., right, because this could be an important year where a third-party candidate could be a spoiler. RFK Jr. certainly has the potential to do that. And there was some thought that RFK Jr. would be very well-received there -- and he was certainly received differently than Donald Trump was. But, yeah. I mean, to your point, you see -- we do a lot of focus grouping with battleground voters and swing voters and at this point in the election, RFK Jr. is sort of a fascination or a maybe to many of them who don't actually know pretty much anything about his policies, and his stances, and his background. The ones who lean more Democratic know the Kennedy name. HUNT: Right. TALEV: The ones who lean more to the right like the idea that there could be someone who is not Biden or Trump and all of those things make him potentially potent if he can get on ballots or get on a debate stage. HUNT: Well, and that was kind of the interest, right? I mean, there was -- there were some conversations -- we had some reporting around RFK Jr. wanting to potentially be on the Libertarian ticket because they have ballot access -- TALEV: Yeah. HUNT: -- across the country. So, you mentioned how there are voters that are in either Trump or Biden -- I mean, this is the big question we've been trying to answer. With RFK on the ballot, which major party candidate suffers the most damage? Here's what RFK Jr. had to say about Donald Trump. I thought it was -- it's an interesting line of attack -- watch. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: With the lockdowns, the mask mandates, the travel restrictions, President Trump presided over the greatest restriction on individual liberties this country has ever known. (END VIDEO CLIP) HUNT: I mean, that is -- it's obviously not a line of attack from President Biden. They attacked -- Democrats attacked Donald Trump for being irresponsible on how he fought the COVID pandemic. TALEV: Absolutely. HUNT: But this is not a record that Donald Trump likes to talk about either. TALEV: No. I mean, you're absolutely right, and that's why I think the idea was sort of go block and tackle. Don't let RFK just make his case alone. Interestingly, Donald Trump did not go out on that stage and pan RFK Jr. He ended up going out on the stage and panning the audience that was there to receive him. HUNT: Uh-huh. TALEV: But it's -- we, consistently from voters, hear -- we do not hear the idea from most voters that they're embracing him because of his anti-vax or critical of vaccines position, or critical of mandates. It's just the opposite. Voters at this stage -- a lot of those swing voters or persuadable voters are embracing this idea that RFK Jr. is sort of splitting the difference. That his politics are in the middle between Trump and Biden. They really don't know anything about him or his running mate. It's just sort of memes of superficial impressions, but that could be very powerful if he could harness it. HUNT: Yeah, it's really interesting and there is this big question about the debate stage, right, because right now, RFK Jr. is not supposed to be on the debate stage in June -- the first debate coming up June 27 here on CNN. The two big questions for him are ballot access and polling thresholds. The polling -- I mean, he seems to be around 15 percent, which is where he would need to be in four major polls. Ballot access is a trickier thing. What is your, sort of, expectation about whether we might see -- we haven't seen this since, you know, Ross Perot was on stage -- a third-party candidate on a debate state. TALEV: Yeah. Many of the -- really, it's that crucial bloc of younger voters right now wasn't even alive the last time that a third-party candidate was sort of in this position. I think it's been 32 or 33 years, and we've seen it three times in history. So, the odds are against him but he has moved very quickly to try to capture that ballot access in crucial states. So, I think it bears watching. And don't forget, there's a couple of debates -- but also, there's just name recognition, voters' awareness. Again, if it comes down to anywhere as close a race as the last one was, that vote and maybe the Libertarians' vote -- some of the folks who were at this convention -- could be pivotal. HUNT: One of the places where RFK Jr. claims to be on the ballot is Michigan. How dangerous is that for the Biden team considering that there are so many people there who are so unhappy with what's going on in terms of Gaza and Biden there? TALEV: Yeah. Michigan, obviously, is this really crucial state both because of the Arab American vote, some of the younger vote that's sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian civilians. It was thought at one point that women's rights and abortion rights could sort of, like, help propel in Michigan. But right now, the concern really is not just Arab American voters but younger voters and the fact that so many of the auto union workers that were once strongly affiliated with the Democratic Party could now be susceptible to at least a white male auto workers.

California State Assemblyman Bill Essayli (R) recently proposed a bill that would have bypassed California's sanctuary state laws only for illegals who harm children. While it seemed like a shoe in, every single state Democrat voted against the motion. “I was inspired by two specific cases that we had coming out of the state of California,” Essayli tells Glenn Beck. In one of those cases, a Colombian illegal immigrant raped a 14-year-old girl. While ICE wanted to deport the illegal, under California law it is illegal for the sheriff or any law enforcement to honor an ICE request or cooperate in any way with immigration officials. The immigrant was picked up later in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was eventually deported. “That’s what first inspired this bill. I said why does the state of California’s laws protect pedophiles? Why would we do this?” Essayli explains, adding, “All the law says is we’re rolling back sanctuary state as it applies to child sex offenders. If you’ve been convicted of committing a sex offense against a minor, you are required to comply with immigration official orders.” The law wouldn’t open up the sanctuary state for anything else other than convicted pedophiles. “Of course, if I was running the place I’d reverse the whole policy, but I said you know what, we’re only 18 out of 80 in here, we’re not controlling policy. Let’s get them on record, let’s expose the Democrat Party for who they are,” Essayli continues. “They are more concerned about protecting illegal immigrant pedophiles than they are about doing the right thing and protecting American citizens.” Just last week, Essayli recalls, there was an illegal immigrant driving up and down the streets of LA, picking up women and young children and raping them in a “rape van.” “He’s an illegal immigrant, and he is currently protected under our state laws from deportation,” Essayli says, disturbed. The 12-person jury in the New York criminal case against former President Donald Trump began deliberations on Wednesday following instructions on the law from acting Justice Juan Merchan, according to live updates from the courthouse.Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo previously told Blaze News that the judge's jury instructions "may tilt the field against the defense," noting that it is "the last thing the judge could do to favor the prosecution."'Merchan just delivered the coup de grace instruction.'Trump is facing 34 state felony criminal charges for allegedly falsifying business records concerning 11 invoices, 12 vouchers, and 11 checks. Payments to Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, were recorded as $420,000 of legal expenses. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's team claimed that the payments made to Cohen were not legal expenses but reimbursements for a $130,000 settlement payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had an affair with the former president.Former federal prosecutor and former Trump attorney Jim Trusty previously told Blaze News that Merchan's jury instruction could significantly impact the case's outcome."There's a big difference between a judge saying that the government must prove that the entries were false and that President Trump knew, or should have known, about them," Trusty stated. "The other way you could say it is, the government has to prove that these entries that were made were false and that President Trump, beyond a reasonable doubt, was complicit in making these entries."Merchan told jurors that Trump "is not required to prove that he is not guilty," nor is he "required to prove or disprove anything." He noted that Trump's decision not to testify in the case could not be used against him."It is not sufficient to prove that the defendant is probably guilty," Merchan explained. "The people must prove beyond a reasonable doubt every element of the crime, including the defendant is the person who committed that crime. The burden of proof never shifts from the people to the defendant.""If you are not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt of the charged crime, you must find the defendant not guilty," he added. Merchan repeatedly told jurors that they are the "judges of the facts" of the case.Jurors were informed that they cannot convict Trump based solely on Cohen's testimony because, under the law, he is an accomplice, Merchan explained.Regarding the accusation that Trump falsified business records, the judge told jurors that to render a guilty verdict, "You must find beyond a reasonable doubt first that he solicited requested, commanded, importuned or intentionally aided that person to engage in that conduct and second that he did so with the state of mind required with the commission of the offense.""A person is guilty of falsifying business records in the first degree when with intent to defraud, which includes the intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof, he makes or causes a false entry in the records of a business enterprise," Merchan continued. He stated that if the jurors find Trump guilty, they do not need to be unanimous on "whether the defendant committed the crime personally, or acted in concert with another, or both."
