Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss was on-hand for a special screening of his 1975 movie “Jaws” at the Cabot Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts — but when he appeared onstage to participate in a Q & A session with the audience, things apparently went sideways. Dreyfuss, according to audience members and video circulating on social media, made his grand entrance wearing a dress over his clothes, shuffling and shaking his hips to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.” After a minute, two staffers rushed onto the stage and helped him to remove the dress — but he continued to play up the dance moves until he had replaced the dress with a blazer. According to several reports, Dreyfuss then made a series of “misogynistic” and “transphobic” comments, allegedly complaining about the #MeToo movement and taking a swing at singer Barbra Streisand, suggesting that women “shouldn’t have that much power.” He went on to criticize the transgender movement, saying that parents who allowed their children to self-determine their genders were not good parents. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas hosted five “affinity” graduation events earlier this month, Campus Reform reported, including celebrations for Asian and Pacific American, “Latinx,” Native American, African American, and LGBT students. “Please join us for our Affinity Graduations sponsored by Student Diversity Programs; which include APMIE, Latinx, Lavender, and Native Convocation,” the school wrote, adding that participating students would “be provided a stole to wear at commencement as a part of the ceremony.” The university system’s Reno campus offered similar graduation celebrations, Campus Reform reported. “By recognizing and honoring different cultural traditions and themes, the celebrations create spaces where students can feel proud of their heritage and share it with others. These celebrations help foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity for students of diverse backgrounds,” student supervisor Emily Thao-Singh in a campus statement. The affinity celebrations were scheduled to take place ahead of the university’s official spring commencement ceremonies. In April, “Dirty Jobs” Host Mike Rowe blasted Harvard University’s use of affinity celebrations, asking, “What better way to celebrate Harvard’s rich commitment to diversity, [than] by encouraging diverse groups to celebrate separately?” “These [affinity] celebrations allow students to separate themselves from each other based on their racial and ethnic identities, and then, celebrate graduation with their own kind,” Rowe wrote on Facebook. “I’m old enough to remember when this was called ‘segregation,’” he added. “At Harvard, they call it ‘affinity.’ To be fair, Harvard’s website says these celebrations are not in lieu of the official graduation, and open to all students who pre-register. But the celebrations themselves are clearly labeled, and the invitees are hard to misconstrue.” Other schools have offered similar ceremonies for years. In 2021, The Daily Wire reported that Columbia University would host six separate graduation ceremonies segregated by student race, sex, and income. Days later, Columbia clarified that the segregated events were not graduation ceremonies, but celebrations. The College Fix reported at the time that in response to the backlash the university received for the segregated “Multicultural Graduation Ceremonies,” the school’s website was quietly changed to call them “Multicultural Graduation Celebrations.” The Fix reported in its original article on the ceremonies that they were in addition to the graduation ceremonies for the entire “Ivy League university and its individual schools.” “In most instances, these smaller, multicultural gatherings evolved from ceremonies originally created by alumni and students,” a school spokesperson told the outlet in an email. “The gatherings are voluntary, open to every student who wants to participate, and have become a highly anticipated and meaningful part of the Columbia graduation experience.”

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team began giving final arguments to a Manhattan jury on Tuesday morning as the trial over alleged hush-money payments comes to a close.  Trump’s defense argued that government prosecutors had presented no evidence of a criminal conspiracy, largely dependent on unreliable testimony from ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records over alleged payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. During his testimony earlier in the trial, Cohen admitted that he secretly recorded Trump and that he stole tens of thousands of dollars from the Trump Organization. “You cannot convict President Trump,” Trump lawyer Todd Blanche said. “You cannot convict President Trump of any crime beyond a reasonable doubt based on the words of Michael Cohen.” Blanche added that the secret recording Cohen made did not actually show Trump discussing payments to McDougal, as the prosecution had argued. “You don’t know about the integrity of this file and this recording,” he told the jury.  The lawyer also argued that Cohen did not tell Trump about a $130,000 payment to Daniels. “There’s no way that you can find that President Trump knew about this payment at the time it was made without believing the words of Michael Cohen, period. And you cannot — you cannot — believe his words,” Blanche said.  Blanche also argued that the government was trying to create a criminal conspiracy over documents filed in 2017 when the alleged conspiracy was supposed to aid his 2016 presidential campaign.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The charges relate to documents in 2017, and the government wants you to believe that President Trump did these things with his records to conceal efforts to promote his successful candidacy in 2016, the year before,” Blanche said “Every campaign in this country is a conspiracy to promote a candidate, a group of people working together to help somebody win. You have to find that this effort was done by unlawful means.” Trump, who has said that the charges brought against him are an attempt to interfere with his 2024 presidential campaign, has been limited in speaking out about the trial due to a gag order placed on him by Judge Juan Merchan.  In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump called the gag order placed on him illegal and unconstitutional and said the whole prosecution was “the Biden White House at work.” The Biden campaign held a press event with actor Robert De Niro outside the courthouse on Tuesday, during which the actor railed against the former president.
