An unidentified hacker accessed copies of confidential testimony in a lawsuit involving allegations of sexual misconduct by Matt Gaetz, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general pick, a lawyer involved in the case said on Tuesday. The lawyer, Joel Leppard, who did not know the identity of the hacker, told Reuters he was informed that an unauthorized person accessed documents, including transcripts of testimony from witnesses in the lawsuit, which was brought by a...

As Trump Seeks Mass Deportations, Workplace Raids May Not Help Much

Just over a year into Donald Trump’s first term as President, immigration agents raided a meat processing plant in Bean Station, Tennessee, arresting 104 workers. It was the largest worksite raid in a decade. Two months later, 114 were arrested at a large-scale nursery in Sandusky, Ohio. The next year, immigration agents raided poultry plants in six towns in central Mississippi, arresting 680 workers in one day.  When Trump comes back to office in January, he plans to bring back the...

The stunning success of vaccines in America, in one chart

Measles, mumps, and polio are supposed to be diseases of the past. In the early to mid-20th century, scientists developed vaccines that effectively eliminated the risk of anyone getting sick or dying from illnesses that had killed millions over millennia of human history. Vaccines, alongside sanitized water and antibiotics, have marked the epoch of modern medicine. The US was at the cutting edge of eliminating these diseases, which helped propel life expectancy and...

The progressive case against immigration: Open borders threaten American labour

The battlelines on immigration have hardened predictably. Left-leaning voters proudly display “refugees welcome” yard signs, while Donald Trump supporters cheer his pledge to implement “largest deportation operation in the history of our country”. Amid such partisan attitudes, it has become heretical to suggest that the Democrats need to be tougher on immigration. But they must. In the long run, progressives have no choice but to acknowledge that huge infusions of migrants stress welfare...

LA rushes to become sanctuary city prior to Trump presidency

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is trying to expedite a sanctuary city ordinance, pushing back against President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans. The ordinance would prohibit the use of city resources for federal immigration enforcement. It could also mean potential legal battles as the Trump administration prepares to use ICE and the military to carry out the campaign promise of mass deportations. An estimated 1.8 million undocumented immigrants live in...
