Trudeau admits open immigration system was exploited by ‘bad actors’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lamented the presence of “bad actors” after Canada’s immigration system reformed during the COVID-19 pandemic in a YouTube video. Trudeau said some exploited the new system, which accepted a large number of immigrants to accommodate the nation’s labor shortage. Canada has now restricted immigration to combat the population boom. “In the last two years, our population has grown really fast, like a baby boom,” he said. “…...

Trudeau’s Immigration Cut Will Narrow Housing Gap, Watchdog Says

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plan to restrict inflows of newcomers will narrow the country’s gap between housing supply and demand, according to a budget watchdog. If Trudeau is successful in curbing immigration over the next three years, that would reduce the housing gap in 2030 by 534,000 units, or 45%, said the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer, which provides independent analysis to help lawmakers scrutinize the government’s activities.

Trudeau says he could have acted faster on immigration changes, blames ‘bad actors’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government could have acted faster on reining in immigration programs, after blaming “bad actors” for gaming the system. Trudeau released a nearly seven-minute video on YouTube Sunday talking about the recent reduction in permanent residents being admitted to Canada and changes to the temporary foreign worker program. Over the next two years, the permanent residency stream is being reduced by about 20 per cent to 365,000 in 2027.

Bill Clinton predicts that USA is likelier to elect a female if she’s ‘a conservative Republican woman’

Former President Bill Clinton said during a recent interview that the country may not be ready for a female president following Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President-elect Donald Trump, and suggested a Republican woman might have an easier time getting elected.  “Maybe,” Clinton replied to CBS’ Tracy Smith’s question about whether the US isn’t ready for a woman president. “I think in some ways we’ve moved to the right as a reaction to all the turmoil. And I think if...

The Onion’s Bid to Acquire Infowars Has Gotten Messy

There was a merry triumphalism to the announcement last week that The Onion, a satirical outlet based in Chicago, won an auction to acquire the conspiracy site Infowars out of bankruptcy. The deal seemed done: Infowars went offline; memes of an apoplectic Alex Jones, its founder, sped across social media; and Ben Collins, chief executive of The Onion’s parent company, pronounced the coup “hilarious.”

Washington judge says 'female-only' spa is akin to 'Whites-only' policy

A Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals judge said Monday that the Washington-based Olympus Spa’s female-only policy is akin to a "whites-only" policy. Olympus Spa, a Christian Korean-run operation, is currently arguing in court that its mandate limiting patrons to "biological females" is protected by constitutional rights. The legal counsel of the spa appeared before a three-member panel of the Ninth Circuit on Monday due to the state’s Human Rights Commission accusing the...
