The Windover Bog Bodies: Why Were 177 Corpses Found In A Pond?

In 1982, an ancient burial site was discovered by accident during the construction of a new road. The operator of a digger noticed skulls collecting in the machinery, triggering an excavation and investigation, uncovering over 177 human remains that date back 7,000 to 8,000 years ago.The peat-bottomed pond in what’s now known as Florida preserved the corpses so well that some were even found with brain tissue still present. Once thought to be incredibly rare, new research challenges the view that brains don’t preserve well, revealing we’ve found a great abundance of preserved human brains, sometimes with the once-squishy think organ being the only soft tissue still standing in an otherwise skeletonized body. The Windover bog bodiesThe Windover archaeological site has yielded around 177 bog bodies, making it one of North America’s most significant bog body sites ever discovered. The bodies appear to be related, as indicated by a shared allele in a highly variable part of the genome that scientists discovered when analyzing DNA from the remains. The conditions of the bog preserved the remains so well that Windover is considered the most extensively characterized wet site with regards to ancient human DNA.The Windover bog bodies were mostly buried in a flexed position on their sides, sinking to a depth of around 1 meter (3 feet) where they would sit undisturbed for 7,000-8,000 years. Excavations from 1984 to 1987 yielded the skeletal remains of 177 individuals, spanning all ages, and half of whom still had parts of their brains by the time they were retrieved. How did the Windover bog bodies remain so well preserved?Bogs are uniquely good at preserving remains, sometimes turning up bodies so fresh that they get mixed up with modern-day murders. The water chemistry at Windover was found to be a crucial part of what preserved the remains for so long, containing lots of minerals and being anaerobic within a few centimeters below the surface. Combined, these factors inhibit the kind of bacterial and fungal decomposition of tissues we typically see with dead bodies out in the open. The host of organisms that flock to a freshly dead corpse is known as the decomposition ecosystem, and insects are a crucial part of it. Want to learn how we’ve turned our knowledge of corpse-feeding insects to science’s favor? Tune in to CURIOUS Live where we’ll be speaking to Dr Erica McAlister and Adrian Washbourne all about the intriguing field of forensic entomology.

Father reports daughter’s encounter with Bigfoot in California forest

A family picnic in the woods of northern California turned into an extraordinary encounter with what is believed to be Bigfoot. The incident, reported by a man identified only as Mark, occurred on August 2nd, 2022, near a quiet town in northern California. Mark, along with his wife and young daughter, had just bought fresh produce from a local farmer’s market before heading to a nearby forest for a relaxing picnic among the flowers. As they were setting up lunch, Mark’s daughter ran off to explore and play among the trees. Approximately fifteen minutes later, the tranquility was shattered by a piercing scream, prompting both parents to dash toward the source, fearing the worst. What they discovered would etch itself into their memories forever. There, sitting calmly on a tree log, was their daughter, seemingly at ease. However, next to her was a colossal, hairy figure. “She seemed completely relaxed and content but next to her was an enormous hairy creature that was easily seven or eight feet tall even while crouching,” Mark recounted. Describing the creature, Mark mentioned it was bipedal, covered in brown hair, and appeared to be playfully interacting with his daughter. Despite the creature’s intimidating size, the girl showed no signs of fear and did not attempt to flee. “It’s almost like the pair were playing a game of copycat, both tilting their heads and scratching their cheeks in turn,” said Mark. He also noted that the creature emitted low, rumbling grunts, almost as if it were laughing. When the girl finally noticed her parents, she ran over to them, and the creature, standing up to its full height, stared at the family briefly before retreating back into the forest. Despite several subsequent visits to the same location, neither Mark nor his wife ever encountered the creature again. This event, while lacking concrete evidence, adds another chapter to the ongoing lore of Bigfoot sightings in the region. Politico TILT: North Idaho Is Extremist, Far-Right, Ultra-Conservative

Politico TILT: North Idaho Is Extremist, Far-Right, Ultra-Conservative

You can tell Politico is firmly on the Left by how outraged it is by "ultra-conservatives" limiting abortions in red states. Politico's Magazine posted an article by freelancer Cassidy Randall reporting on the alleged craziness of northern Idaho. No one expects this kind of an article from the congressional districts of "Squad" members. The headline:  North Idaho Has Drifted to the Extreme Right. One Republican Thinks It’s Hit Its Limit. One candidate is testing the power of a moderate coalition to stand up to extremism in a region that has been powerless to its advance. Including the headline, Politico offered 28 uses of "extreme," "extremist," or "extremism" on the right, and 14 uses of "far right." This does include the uses in quotes, which are selected by the reporter. They saved "ultra-conservative" for tweets:  Ultra-conservative policy on a range of issues like abortion dominates in north Idaho — but this Republican candidate thinks a new moderate coalition is ready to take a stand against extremism in his own party.https://t.co/RI82aKSoP7 — POLITICO Magazine (@POLITICOMag) May 19, 2024 Sometimes, the "far-right" and the "extremist" would overlap....suggesting overkill. "The political shift happening in north Idaho is taking place just as the rest of the country is seeing increasing extremism in state legislatures and far-right brinksmanship in Congress." (Politico links to The New Yorker!) The star of this story is Jim Woodward, a state senator who beat his rival Scott Herndon in 2018. But in 2022, Herndon ran again, and it "became personal and attack-driven, with mailers and local ads calling Woodward 'Liberal Jim,' showing him wearing a mask, claiming he would 'control your kids by turning schools into ‘woke’ indoctrination centers' and that he supported critical race theory and allowing transgender children to compete in school sports." Woodward told Politico he was blindsided by the “the viciousness of it.” He "hadn’t campaigned all that hard in retaliation, figuring that as the four-year incumbent in a small community, people knew him well enough to dismiss Herndon’s claims." Politico accepts Woodward at face value, but Herndon's website lists Woodward's liberal votes. So what about people who support abortion on demand, at any time and for any reason? Isn't that extreme? Not to Politico or Democrat donor Cassidy Randall. They're presented as "left-leaning."  Openly working across party lines is a fraught venture on both sides — which is why, says Mistie DelliCarpini-Tolman, Idaho state director for Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates, the trend is mostly underground. “Moderate Republicans may not think that left-leaning support will help their cause, and left-leaning organizations don’t want to hurt the chances of a moderate Republican by being public with their support,” she says.  In liberal-media reports, it has forever been the case that you can be somehow a "moderate Republican" who's totally pro-abortion. Being extremist in favor of abortion is popular, they say!  “People are starting to see that reproductive rights are wildly popular,” DelliCarpini-Tolman continued.  How can you be an "extremist" if you're wildly popular? Welcome to the liberal media.

CAA talent agency partners with AI company Veritone to help celebrities secure their own AI likenesses

The Creative Artists Agency — one of the most elite sports and entertainment talent agencies in Hollywood — is on the front lines of providing AI protection services to their top talent, according to Tech Crunch. The development comes after many famous people have had their digital likenesses used without legal permission. CAA has reportedly built a virtual media storage for its A-list talent. The storage system would protect a person's names, images, digital scans, voice recordings, and other assets.'Over the last couple of years or so, there has been a vast misuse of our clients’ names, images, likenesses, and voices without consent, without credit, without proper compensation.'CAA has teamed up with AI tech company Veritone to create what is known as the "CAAvault," where actors record their bodies, faces, movements, and voices using scanning technology to generate AI clones.Deadline Hollywood reported that Alexandra Shannon, CAA's head of strategic development, said: "Ethics-led and talent-friendly applications of emerging technologies, like AI, are a top priority for CAA, driving us to innovate new ways to support and protect artists."“The launch of the CAAvault is one such innovation. By partnering with a trusted organization like Veritone, we can maintain the security of the artist’s assets, while working to ensure that AI is responsibly integrated into opportunities across the entertainment landscape," Shannon added. The announcement comes after a slew of AI deepfakes of celebrities have surfaced online, which were generated without the celebrity's consent. One of the more recent incidents included Tom Hanks. An AI-generated video of him was used to promote a dental plan without his permission."Over the last couple of years or so, there has been a vast misuse of our clients’ names, images, likenesses, and voices without consent, without credit, without proper compensation," Shannon said."It’s very clear that the law is not currently set up to be able to protect them, and so we see many open lawsuits out there right now."Tech Crunch reported that a substantial amount of personal information is required to create digital clones of people. This raises questions about the misuse of sensitive information, and whether this could present safety risks to victims. The "CAAvault" can only be accessed by those authorized to do so, allowing those involved to legally share and monetize their content as they choose.“This is giving the ability to start setting precedents for what consent-based use of AI looks like,” Shannon said. “Frankly, our view has been that the law is going to take time to catch up, and so by the talent creating and owning their digital likeness with [theCAAvault] ... there is now a legitimate way for companies to work with one of our clients. If a third party chooses not to work with them in the right way, it’s much easier for legal cases to show there was an infringement of their rights and help protect clients over time.” Like Blaze News? 6 men allegedly staged armed robberies to obtain crime victim visas

Six men were accused of staging armed robberies in multiple states to obtain crime victim visas, according to a federal indictment unsealed on Friday, WBBM-TV reported.Between July 2022 and January 2024, the men allegedly faked robberies in Chicago, Louisiana, and Tennessee. After recruiting individuals to pose as robbers, the phony victims filed false police reports to apply for U nonimmigrant status, the unsealed indictment stated. 'Individuals acting as robbers ... struck purported victims.'U-visas are "set aside for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity," according to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. The six men, including Parth Nayi, 26; Kewon Young, 31; Bhikhabhai Patel, 51; Nilesh Patel, 32; Ravinaben Patel, 23; and Rajnikumar Patel, 32, were charged with conspiracy to commit visa fraud. The men could face up to five years in prison. Ravinaben Patel was also charged with making a false statement on a visa application, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.Nayi and Young planned out the staged robberies in which the Patels pretended to be the victims. The acting thieves would brandish what appeared to be firearms and demand money and other belongings from the fake victims. "At the direction of Nayi and Young, the individuals acting as robbers, on certain occasions, struck purported victims to make the staged robbery appear real," the indictment read, WTTW reported. "The individuals acting as robbers took items from the purported victims and fled the scene."According to federal prosecutors, Nayi was paid thousands of dollars to participate in the visa fraud scheme. More than a dozen bogus robberies were staged at various locations, including gas stations, fast-food establishments, coffee shops, and liquor stores. One of the staged robberies occurred at a Chicago liquor store in July. Surveillance footage captured the recruited robbers shooting a 26-year-old clerk after the worker and customers handed over their belongings. The clerk was struck in the abdomen, according to WLS-TV. Another bullet reportedly went through a plexiglass window. Six people, including the clerk, were robbed, WLS reported at the time of the incident.Immigration attorney Xavier Borjas of the Borjas Law Group told WBBM that the men are accused of committing a "pretty serious" crime. "It's very disheartening, because there are so many people that unfortunately do qualify [for U-visas] and have been victims of these crimes that you want to ensure hopefully, get some sort of some, some sort of relief," Borjas stated. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder calls Harrison Butker 'f***ing p***y' over star kicker's anti-woke graduation speech

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder called Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs a "f***ing p***y" over the star kicker's anti-woke graduation speech that went viral last week.Vedder, the far-left frontman of the legendary Seattle grunge band, gave his own speech to a Las Vegas concert crowd Saturday, noting that the female members of the show's opening band "must not have believed that ‘diabolical lie’ that women should take pride in taking a back seat to their men.”Vedder then called out Butker, saying "the irony was that this football player, kicker … he doesn’t have the pads because he doesn’t tackle anybody or get tackled ..."Vedder continued: "OK, I get that [it] could be for some people, and there should be pride in homemaking whether you're a man or a woman. It's maybe one of the hardest jobs, and you definitely should take pride in it. But you shouldn't not follow a dream because you think that is the more ... that you're going to benefit by giving up your dreams? I couldn't understand the logic. So I'm questioning it public right now ..." Butker, during his speech at Benedictine College, a small Catholic school, used the word "diabolical" to describe what he called false messages that progressive culture tells young women today and pushed back by championing faith and traditional family values: "Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."Vedder then called out Butker, saying "the irony was that this football player, kicker … he doesn’t have the pads because he doesn’t tackle anybody or get tackled ..." Which is pretty hilarious given Vedder stands a whopping 5'7" tall compared to Butker's 6'4" frame. (Oh, and for the record, Butker does tackle; let's see Eddie do this.)The singer kept going, noting that Butker "was telling men to ‘don’t forget to puff up your chests and be more masculine, don’t lose your masculinity.' The irony was that when he was saying that, he looked like such a f***ing p***y. There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman. Take that. ... People of quality do not fear equality.”Here's the clip. (Content warning: Language): Pearl Jam - Eddie Vedder on Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker - Live in Las Vegas - 5/18/24 youtu.be What else happened after Butker's speech? Not surprisingly, the woke NFL tried to win over the left in the face of what Butker had to say, breathlessly insisting that the league stands for "inclusion" and other PC stuff. What's more, the individual who runs the X account for the city of Kansas City actually posted a message Wednesday night noting the neighboring city in which Butker's family resides. After the post was taken down, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas wrote, "A message appeared earlier this evening from a City public account. The message was clearly inappropriate for a public account. The City has correctly apologized for the error, will review account access, and ensure nothing like it is shared in the future from public channels."Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey the next day posted that his office "is demanding accountability after @KansasCity doxxed @buttkicker7 last night for daring to express his religious beliefs. I will enforce the Missouri Human Rights Act to ensure Missourians are not targeted for their free exercise of religion. Stay tuned."Sara Haines — left-wing cohost of "The View" and a self-described "Christian" — blasted Butker's Catholicism and warned him that "if you're using this to oppress people or hold them down, you're not walking with Jesus. If you are using the religion, if you're more obsessed with the religious rituals and practices than you are with the word of Jesus, you're not walking with Jesus. And if you're using it for the judgment of others and as a weapon to beat people down, you're also not walking with Jesus."However, "Real Time" host Bill Maher — who also leans heavily left — on his Friday episode called out the woke mob that wants Butker's head on a platter: "I don't see what the big crime is. I really don't."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Marco Rubio corners NBC anchor with perfect question after host defends Hillary Clinton, Democrats on election integrity

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) called out NBC News on Sunday for its one-sided crusade against Republicans to "protect democracy." On Sunday, Rubio appeared on "Meet the Press," where host Kristen Welker asked him if he would serve as Donald Trump's vice president before interviewing him about policy issues, like abortion and immigration. 'You have Democrats now saying they won't certify 2024 because Trump is an insurrectionist and ineligible to hold office. So you need to ask them.' But the interview turned sour when Welker made a hard pivot and whipped out a trite question: "Will you accept the election results of 2024, no matter what happens, senator?" Clearly annoyed with the question, Rubio questioned its premise before saying that he believes the 2024 election could be contested by Republicans or Democrats "if it's an unfair election." "You're asking the wrong person. The Democrats are the ones that have opposed every Republican victory since 2000 — every single one," Rubio answered. "Hillary Clinton said the election was stolen from her and that Trump was illegitimate." In response, Welker defended Hillary Clinton and Democrats before repeating the question. "No Democrat has refused to concede. Hillary Clinton conceded," Welker defended. "Senator, will you accept the election results?""[Clinton] said that Trump was illegitimate. She said that the election had been stolen. Kamala Harris agreed," Rubio shot back. "By the way, there are Democrats serving in Congress today who, in 2004, voted not to certify the Ohio electors because they said those machines had been tampered with. And you have Democrats now saying they won't certify 2024 because Trump is an insurrectionist and ineligible to hold office. So you need to ask them." As Welker talked over Rubio to say repeatedly that Clinton "conceded," Rubio cornered the NBC News anchor with an obvious question. "Have you ever asked the Democrats this question on the show?" he asked Welker. Welker, however, refused to answer the question. Instead, she tried to pivot the interview and use Rubio's words against Trump, suggesting the former president has a history of "undermining Americans' confidence in democracy." But Rubio wasn't playing those games. "What undermines elections is when NBC News and every major news outlet in America in 2020 censored the [Hunter] Biden laptop story, which turned out to be true — not Russian misinformation. Unprecedented," the senator fired back. Once again Welker went on the defense, saying NBC covered the Hunter Biden laptop story. But a quick Google search shows the outlet only covered the story in a way that was favorable to the Bidens in the run-up to the election. The interview ended without Welker saying if she has or would ever ask a Democrat if he or she will accept the results of the 2024 election. Like Blaze News?
