‘Morning Joe’ Ratings Drop Off a Cliff After Admitting They Met With Trump

In what we learned shortly thereafter was a selfish ploy to save their own behinds from possible scrutiny by a second Trump administration come January 20, the visit to Mar-a-Lago by MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-hosts and married couple Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski to see President-Elect Trump has contributed to the Swamp insider-y show’s ratings cratering like it was hit by one of those Mother of All Bombs (MOAB). Mediaite editor and NewsNation media analyst Colby Hall explained that Monday’s show in which they disclosed the meeting actually lost ratings by the hour. Citing Nielsen Media Research numbers, he showed their starting audience in the 6:00 a.m. Eastern hour of 839,000 viewers dropped to 694,000 in the second hour, 775,000 for the third, and 770,000 for the fourth. Nielsen numbers for Tuesday and Wednesday’s shows revealed an even further erosion as the corporate liberals, D.C. insiders, and other Resistance types abandoned Morning Joe. Tuesday’s Nielsen ratings showed just 680,000 total viewers for the four-hour show with 76,000 from ages 25 to 54, a remarkably small number for a network that size. Wednesday told an even more grim picture, despite the litany of political stories surrounding the Trump transition, multiple foreign crises, and lameduck happenings on Capitol Hill.  In total viewers, MSNBC’s Morning Joe drew only averaged 647,000 total viewers, down 43 percent from their ratings in the previous quarter (July, August, and September). Younger viewers were only pegged at 51,000, a 60 percent drop in the same time frame. The Fox News Channel, meanwhile, continued to cruise. Since the election, total FNC viewership is up 41 percent compared to all days prior in 2024. Speaking of overall ratings, MSNBC writ large has been hemorrhaging viewers since the election to the tune of 43 percent overall and a staggering 60 percent in ages 25 to 54. Add in Comcast making official on Wednesday morning that it’s spinning off MSNBC and six other cable networks and potential financial ramifications (e.g. cutbacks in the form of layoffs) and it’s not the best time to be a liberal journalist at MSNBC.

MSNBC Deplores 'Dangerous and Effective' Bondi Pick As 'Worse Than' Gaetz

Journalism Professor Jason Johnson joined MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Thursday’s episode of The Beat to react to President-elect Donald Trump nominating former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to head the Justice Department after former Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew from the process amid a series of sex scandals. Johnson fretted that Bondi will be “worse than” Gaetz because “she knows what she’s doing” and is therefore “dangerous and effective.” Given that Bondi was also one of Trump’s lawyers during his first impeachment trial and he has also nominated his criminal defense lawyers for other top DOJ positions, Melber declared, “So, if this were the team and they have to go through vetting and confirmation, but if this were the team, this would be two of the most politically defensive lawyers of the personal capacity of an incoming president we've ever seen running DOJ at the same time.”     Johnson regrettably concurred, “Ari, I completely agree, and quite frankly, my thought is that after Gaetz dropped out it would be essentially from Trump's legal team. It would be like a Jay Sekulow or somebody like that. I assumed that’s where he would get these people from. Unlike William Barr, even going back to when we were all kids and, like, Janet Reno, right, occasionally attorney generals try to behave like they are not the personal lawyer of the president of the United States. That is completely out the window.” He added that Bondi “is exactly what I was saying in the last segment that we should fear because she’s competent. We may not agree with her ideologically, but she actually knows how to do this job. So, if anyone on the Democratic side or anyone who cared about liberty or justice was thinking, ‘Well, maybe Matt Gaetz will screw this up and that will give us some time.’” Johnson concluded by reiterating, “No, Pam Bondi knows what she is doing, she knows what she’s doing about immigration. Remember, Florida is one of those states that’s been very aggressive about migrants and deportation and moving people to different states and everything else like that. Florida has enacted all sorts of rules and laws to curtail students and what they can do on campuses and finding legal justifications for manipulating education money. She is a dangerous and effective pick, and that's frankly worse than what we would have got with Matt Gaetz even with the deplorable moral background that he has.” Johnson’s comments are troublesome for two reasons. First, the journalism professor sounds like a liberal activist, which makes one wonder what kind of classes he is teaching. Second, the media can’t have it both ways: are Trump’s cabinet picks bad because they have no experience running large bureaucratic agencies or are they bad because they do and that makes them dangerously competent? Here is a transcript for the November 21 show: MSNBC The Beat With Ari Melber 11/21/2024 6:44 PM ET ARI MELBER: So, if this were the team and they have to go through vetting and confirmation, but if this were the team, this would be two of the most politically defensive lawyers of the personal capacity of an incoming president we've ever seen running DOJ at the same time. JASON JOHNSON: Ari, I completely agree, and quite frankly, my thought is that after Gaetz dropped out it would be essentially from Trump's legal team. It would be like a Jay Sekulow or somebody like that. I assumed that’s where he would get these people from. Rachel Maddow takes $5 million pay cut after MSNBC ratings crash post-election: Report

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow took a pay cut of $5 million after re-negotiating her contract since the devastating election, according to a report in the Ankler. The decision might have related to a bombshell announcement made by Comcast, which owns MSNBC, on Wednesday that it would spin off some cable channels in order to freshen up its lineup by the end of 2025. Some saw the move as evidence that consumer "cord-cutting" of cable services was forcing the company to make some critical decisions. Another executive described Maddow as 'ratings Viagra.' “This is a difficult time and they needed to keep her,” said one executive. “No one else can do what she does. You can’t build a brand like it overnight.” Ratings have dropped precipitously after the resounding victory for Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump. In response, the hosts of "Morning Joe" announced that they met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago after years of accusing him of being worse than Hitler. Some of their viewers have turned against them for the decision. “I assume now that the Democrats have lost to the greatest threat we’ve ever faced as a nation that they will be forthright in acknowledging, one, the Democrats’ role in this catastrophic defeat and, two, the bleak hellscape we now face,” said Jon Stewart after skewering the show's hosts. Maddow said before the election that she was worried Trump might toss her into a massive camp alongside the migrants he planned to round up if he won. A spokesperson for MSNBC declined to comment about the report. Another executive described Maddow as "ratings Viagra" to explain why she was so important to the network's lineup. Despite the large cut in pay, Maddow will still rake in $25 million from her re-negotiated contract. Like Blaze News? LeBron James says he's taking a break from social media because of 'hate' and 'negativity'

LeBron James says he is taking a break from social media following a post about there being too much negativity in the world and sports media.Sharing a post from sports agent Rich Kleiman, James announced he would be leaving social media for an unspecified amount of time. The NBA star has taken heavy criticism lately for the inclusion of his son LeBron "Bronny" James Jr. on the Los Angeles Lakers, who was drafted by the team despite extreme levels of doubt that he was good enough to play in the league.Over the Lakers first 15 games of the season, Bronny has played just 13 minutes in five games, scoring a grand total of four points."With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of National sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes," the X post read."We can all acknowledge that sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. So why can't the coverage do the same? It's only click bait when you say it. When the platform is so big, you can make the change and allow us all an escape from real life negativity. I for one find it all a waste of breath."James responded to the message giving his endorsement, "AMEN!!" — (@) Just five minutes after sharing the anti-negativity post, James announced he was stepping away from social media."And with that said I'll holla at y'all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y'all take care," James wrote. — (@) Despite the NBA legend's messaging, he is actually not that active on social media, posting every couple of days. However, complaints that there is too much negativity or politicization surrounding sports seemingly ignores James' consistent participation in both aspects.Days earlier, not only did James complain about "haters" in regards to Colorado University football, he made a full endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris before the election with a vitriolic video post."What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!" James wrote, showing clips of news articles calling President Trump racist.James' attached video displayed headlines that read "Trump fills Madison Square Garden with anger, vitriol and racist threats," along with "Trump escalates racist rhetoric and plays on white grievance at recent rallies."The same video claimed that the KKK supports Trump and then played audio of an unknown male shouting, "We love Hitler! We love Trump!"Furthermore, James has complained about "hate speech" on X previously, specifically when Elon Musk took over the platform in 2022."I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary [as f***]. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech," James wrote at the time. — (@) In 2021, James also spoke about black Americans being killed by police because of "racism," while in 2017, he defended the toppling of historical statues because Trump had made hate "fashionable again." — (@) Like Blaze News? Andrew McCabe, other deep state mascots want Mike Rogers for FBI director — but Trump adviser says 'it's not happening'

Andrew McCabe, the former FBI deputy director who shut down investigations into the Clinton Foundation in 2016 then undermined the Trump presidency with Crossfire Hurricane, told CNN Thursday that former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers would be a "totally reasonable, logical selection" for President-elect Donald Trump's FBI director. McCabe said that Rogers' "strongest qualification ... is the respect and awareness and knowledge that he has for the intelligence community, for the work they do, for the seriousness of that work, for how those secrets and that sensitive information needs to be protected." To the likely displeasure of McCabe and other exponents of the Washington security establishment, Trump has apparently joined Michigan voters in rejecting Rogers. Trump adviser Dan Scavino indicated Friday morning — shortly after Fox News' Brian Kilmeade sung Rogers' praises — that where FBI Director Christopher Wray's replacement is concerned, Rogers is "not happening." Scavino quoted President-elect Donald Trump as saying, "I have never even given it a thought." This came as great news to those alternatively keen to see former National Security Council official Kash Patel named Wray's successor. "Winning," tweeted Donald Trump Jr. "Boom," wrote Revolver News editor Darren Beattie. Rumors that Trump was considering Rogers for the position began to circulate last week after the former congressman met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. The prospect of a defense lobbyist associated with censorious groups antagonistic to Trump and historically supportive of mass surveillance programs running the FBI rankled Trump loyalists and other critics of the dysfunctional administrative state, particularly those keen to see Patel nominated. Mike Benz, the executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, told former Trump adviser Stephen K. Bannon that Rogers' involvement with the Atlantic Council — "probably the number-one apex predator in the entire censorship industry" — and his help advancing Russiagate were disqualifying. 'There is a lot of damage someone like Kash Patel could do.' Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted, "There's literally no worse appointment possible than choosing Mike Rogers for FBI Director, or for any government position. He's the single most devoted loyalist to the US Security State and all of its multi-faceted abuses. It doesn't get worse than Mike Rogers." Wikileaks highlighted that Rogers, favored by Republican Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and John Cornyn (Texas), not only pushed for the suppression of a Republican memo critical of the FBI's spying on the Trump campaign but was involved with the German Marshall Fund's Alliance for Securing Democracy initiative and its Hamilton 68 Dashboard. Wikileaks noted that the dashboard's "true purpose appeared to be casting suspicion on Trump supporters and reinforcing claims that his presidency was illegitimate." McCabe — whom Trump fired in March 2018 after the Justice Department's inspector general concluded McCabe had authorized an information leak to a liberal reporter then lied about it — expressed horror Thursday at the prospect of Patel taking power. "It's inconceivable to me that an outsider with no experience in the organization, no knowledge of the work and the scope of authority that’s involved there could perform adequately," he told CNN. "If you enter into that position with nothing more than a desire to disrupt and destroy the organization, there is a lot of damage someone like Kash Patel could do." McCabe is hardly the only establishmentarian fearful of Patel taking over the bureau. 'I'd shut down the FBI Hoover building on Day One.' Former FBI Special Agent Daniel Brunner told CNN's Jessica Dean on Sunday, "Putting someone like Kash Patel in the position of director of the FBI is, I believe, extremely, extremely dangerous." "He has clearly stated that he wants to exact revenge upon those that have investigated President Trump and those who have investigated those that are around him. He will conduct a massive amount of damage to the interior of the FBI," added Brunner. The leftist blog New Republic called Patel an "intellectual lightweight" and warned that "if Trump installs Patel at the FBI, it would certainly further Trump and his MAGA allies' goal of purging the federal workforce of disloyal employees." Patel wrote in his book "Government Gangsters" that "government tyranny" within the FBI must be eliminated and called for the removal of anyone who "in any way abused their authority for political ends." "The FBI has become so thoroughly compromised that it will remain a threat to the people unless drastic measures are taken," wrote Patel. Patel recently told "The Shawn Ryan Show," "I'd shut down the FBI Hoover building on Day One and reopen it the next day as a museum of the deep state." Blaze News previously reported that despite his characterization as inexperienced, Patel has served as chief of staff to former acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller; as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council; principal deputy to the acting director of national intelligence; as national security adviser for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; as a terrorism prosecutor at the Department of Justice; as a public defender; and as a hockey coach. Judge to consider tossing Trump's New York criminal charges

New York Judge Juan Merchan has once again decided to postpone sentencing in President-elect Donald Trump's Manhattan criminal case, in which he was found guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. On Friday, Merchan granted a request from Trump's attorney to file a motion to dismiss the case, further pushing back the potential sentencing date, originally slated for July. Merchan will 'seriously entertain throwing the whole case out.'Trump's lawyer, Todd Blanche, sent a letter to Merchan on Wednesday requesting to file a motion to dismiss the case.Blanche called Trump's election win "a mandate that supersedes the political motivations of DANY's 'People,'" referring to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg."This case must be immediately dismissed," he demanded. Blanche argued that the potential continuation of the case would be "uniquely destabilizing" for the country.Earlier this week, Bragg agreed with the defense's request to stay the case but noted that he would oppose a motion to dismiss.Merchan declared that the motion for dismissal and the prosecution's response are due in early December.Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump and the incoming White House communication director, told Fox News Digital that the judge's latest announcement marked a "decisive win" for the president-elect."In a decisive win for President Trump, the hoax Manhattan case is now fully stayed and sentencing is adjourned," Cheung told the news outlet. "President Trump won a landslide victory, as the American people have issued a mandate to return him to office and dispose of all remnants of the Witch Hunt cases.""All of the sham lawfare attacks against President Trump are now destroyed, and we are focused on Making America Great Again," he declared. In response to Merchan's agreement to consider Blanche's request for dismissal, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote on X, "The legal assault against President Trump is dying a slow, painful, and embarrassing death."Senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano told Newsmax that Merchan's move indicated that he will "seriously entertain throwing the whole case out."Napolitano explained that Merchan may toss the convictions based on two potential reasons: "Either because some of the evidence that he permitted the jury to hear was immunized by the [United States] Supreme Court after the case came down … or because Donald Trump is about to become president of the United States and he shouldn't have this interfering with his administration of the executive branch of the federal government."He predicted that the courtroom "will be absolutely packed" when Merchan holds the oral argument for dismissal. Napolitano noted that under New York State law, Trump is not convicted unless the sentencing is completed. The other three criminal cases against Trump are also falling apart. Special counsel Jack Smith, who has led the two federal indictments against the president-elect, has requested the cancellation of related deadlines and is reportedly planning to wrap up his involvement and step down ahead of Inauguration Day. The Georgia case, a state-level indictment, remains on hold and likely far away from a trial date.Like Blaze News?
