Jason Boland & The Stragglers Announce New Album ‘The Last Kings of Babylon’

Jason Boland and the Stragglers are BACK. Their 2021 alien abduction concept album, The Light Saw Me, was an absolute standout for me that year, but it was admittedly a bit of a departure from what we've come to expect from the red dirt legends. But their latest project, announced today, is perhaps a return to their roots, a return to tradition, and a return to producer Lloyd Maines who worked with the band on a number of albums over the years. Titled The Last Kings Of Babylon, the new, 10-song album is set for release on March 14th, 2025. Of the new album, Boland says the band stays rooted in their unmistakable Oklahoma tradition, but find new ways to push their sound: “Our music has always been rooted in the folk tradition, but with this album we figured out how to bring a little more power and intensity to the songs. We’ve reached another level as performers where we can push ourselves and our instruments while still staying true to who we are, which is a really exciting place to be. This album is a mirror. It’s a retrospective, a reflection of everywhere we’ve been and everything we’ve learned over the last 25 years on the road. These songs are about the journey. We were searching for something when we started this band, and we’re still out there searching for it now.” The lead single, "High Time," is out today and has already become a favorite for the band's live show: “‘High Time’ is quickly becoming one of our favorite songs to play live. I can’t help but smile every time we kick it off. You gotta love the friend indeed.” Gas it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSjRfnchfxg&pp=ygUpamFzb24gYm9sYW5kIGFuZCB0aGUgc3RyYWdnbGVycyBoaWdodCBpbWU%3D The Last Kings of Babylon Tracklist: 1) Next To Last Hank Williams 2) Truest Colors 3) Drive 4) Take Me Back To Austin 5) High Time 6) One Law At A Time 7) Ain’t No Justice 8) Farmall 9) Irish Goodbye 10) Buffalo Return In conjunction with the album release, Jason Boland & The Stragglers will also be launching The Last Kings Of Babylon Tour, kicking off on March 14 (album release day) in Waco, Texas. The tour will conclude in April with 4 sold-out concerts as part of The Boys From Oklahoma stadium shows at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. That run will also feature the reunion of red dirt legends Cross Canadian Ragweed, as well as Oklahoma icons, Turnpike Troubadours, The Great Divide and Stoney LaRue. Brooks & Dunn And Chris Stapleton Are Now Tied For The Most CMA Award Wins Ever

Breaking records and taking names. On Wednesday night, the CMA Awards were filled with records being set not only for the men in the room but also for the ladies. The hottest stars and up-and-comers in country music convened last night at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena to celebrate the year in country music. While many artists left the awards show last night with a glass trophy, even some that were not shown on television, like Ella Langley and Riley Green snagging Musical Event of the Year or Charlie Worsham taking home Musician of the Year. https://twitter.com/CountryMusic/status/1859408274040266994 The night also featured incredible performances from Chris Stapleton and Brooks & Dunn, as well as a beautiful tribute to The King of Country Music, George Strait, featuring Miranda Lambert, Jamey Johnson, and more. But while the night was filled with great performances, the awards show's aftermath showed some broken records. Chris Stapleton and Brooks & Dunn are now tied for the most CMA Award wins with 19 a piece. Both artists took home the glass sculptures last night, Chris took home 3, in their respective categories, and those added honors broke new records. Chris Stapleton extended his record for the most wins for Male Vocalist of the Year and is now an eight-time award winner. Luke Combs, hands down, had the best reaction to this record being extended during the CMA Awards; mouthing to his wife is pure shock that he's taken home the honor eight times. https://twitter.com/JaxiePidgeon/status/1859441090115375448?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1859441090115375448%7Ctwgr%5Edde5b79c99db7c24628644cc7d657f5269dd1262%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F11%2F21%2Fluke-combs-cma-awards-reaction-chris-stapleton%2F Brooks & Dunn finally broke their tie with Vince Gill for the most-awarded CMA Award recipient, with their winning of Duo of the Year. This award was the first time Brooks & Dunn won a CMA Award since 2006. Talk about a comeback for this legendary duo, and Reboot II's release proves their career is not slowing down anytime soon. However, Brooks & Dunn's lead in the number of CMA Awards won over the span of their career was a short-lived record, as Chris Stapleton tied them after winning Single & Song of the Year as well as Male Vocalist of the Year. Both of these phenomenal artists now have nineteen CMA Awards on their shelves. NINETEEN! That's a hefty number. https://twitter.com/billboard/status/1859455219832119422 As for the ladies, Lainey Wilson joined the ranks of the six women who have won Female Vocalist of the Year for three consecutive years following her wins in 2022 and 2023. The other women in this elite club include Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Tammy Wynette. While there were a few other records broken throughout the evening, it's safe to say that Brooks & Dunn winning Duo Of the Year, breaking away from Vince Gill as the most decorated artist, just to be shortly tied again with Chris Stapleton minutes later takes the cake as best moment from the awards show. Congratulations to all of the artists who received CMA Awards this year. It was a great year for country music, and while some of their choices were not what fans agreed with, I think we can all agree that having artists like Zach Top and the Red Clay Strays as nominees this year is a big step in the right direction for country music. Check out Brooks & Dunn's performance with Jelly Roll of "Believe" while you're here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEbqlvqBLg0

Kashus Culpepper Releases Another Heartfelt Single, “Pour Me Out”

Kashus Culpepper Releases Another Heartfelt Single, “Pour Me Out”

Another solid release. Today, up-and-comer Kashus Culpepper released a new song called "Pour Me Out," which is just his fourth release on a major label (Big Loud, home of Morgan Wallen, Ernest, Hardy) so far, following favorites like his debut single "After Me?" and "Out Of My Mind." The Alabama native made a splash earlier this year when he released "After Me?," which is currently playing on Americana radio. The 26-year-old Navy veteran has already opened for people like Charles Wesley Godwin (what other kind of endorsement could you need?), and he has an incredibly unique, gritty and powerful voice that stops you in your tracks no matter what he's singing. "Pour Me Out" once again shows off his incredible vocals, while the lyrics remain simple and striking... a perfect combination for a beautiful country song. "'Pour Me Out' out now!!! ❤️❤️" https://www.instagram.com/p/DCqYl-kuoWO/ Culpepper says "Pour Me Out" is one of his favorite songs he's ever written, pulling inspiration from greats like Ray Charles and Willie Nelson: "'Pour Me Out' is one of my favorite songs I've ever written. It reflects a side of my musical influences that reminds me of songs I love from heroes of mine like Ray Charles and Willie Nelson." Culpepper recorded "Pour Me Out" in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and it was produced by frequent collaborator Brian Elmquist (The Lone Bellow) and backed by his road-tested band. The song was written by Culpepper alongside Ben Burgess (if his name sounds familiar, it's because he co-wrote Morgan Wallen's mega hit "Whiskey Glasses," among many others) and Diego Urias. Lyrically, it finds Culpepper coming to terms with the fact that he's not this girls "only drink in town," and he'd rather just be poured out if she isn't going to drink the whole thing, so to speak: "I know I'm not the only drink in town I can't just be another round If you don't wanna drink me baby Don't sip me baby Just pour me out" It's a really neat concept, and of all the country music songs that revolve around drinking, or use drinking as a metaphor (which is probably 99%, or something close to that, right?), this feels fresh and different from a lyrical perspective, which is really difficult to do from that perspective, actually. In terms of the production, it feels simple and classic, and adds to his small yet powerful catalog that will hopefully be extended by a full-length debut album or something like that next year. Check it out: "Pour Me Out" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjse5wdYbDk In addition to opening for Charles Wesley Godwin on the road some this year, Culpepper recently wrapped up his headlining Howlin' Under The Harvest Moon Tour across the Midwest and Southeast. He's also opened for Charley Crockett, and will continue opening for great artists like Leon Bridges and Ian Munsick next year. He will also make his first-ever appearances at Stagecoach, C2C in London, Tortuga Music Festival, and more in 2025, and he's certainly one to keep your eye on to have a big year next year.
