A joke of a trial." pic.twitter.com/FD3P5y32Dh— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) May 16, 2024 From CNN: Michael Cohen’s testimony about an October 2016 call with Keith Schiller and Donald Trump gets at the core of the case and could potentially be problematic for prosecutors, CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig said.  “Michael Cohen on his direct testimony said, ‘I had this phone call in late October of 2016, I called Keith Schiller and he patched me through to Trump, I don’t remember if he put me on speaker but I was speaking to the two of them and I told them then that Stormy Daniels had been paid and the matter was resolved.’ Right? We’ve been asking, ‘When are they going to go with the core?’ This is the core the case,” Honig explained.  He added that Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche then raised two points regarding this testimony.  First, the texts leading up to the call that day show that Cohen texted Schiller nothing about Daniels, but about instead about a 14-year-old who was harassing him.  Second, Cohen never mentioned in previous testimony that this call was about Daniels, including a prior grand jury testimony and extensive statements he’s given to the district attorney.

A Mexico City-based taco stand has been awarded a Michelin star, a first for that type of establishment. Tacos El Califa de León is the only taco stand in the world that can boast the highly coveted honor. The establishment’s head chef, Rivera Martínez, reacted to receiving the award, saying, “It’s neat, it’s cool,” per a translation, according to the Associated Press. The Michelin Guides are a series of books published by the French tire company since 1900. The highly respected guides award up to three Michelin stars for excellence, and only the top restaurants in the world are selected for the honor. Gaining and losing stars often affects a restaurant’s popularity.  The outlet noted that chef Martínez didn’t immediately put on the full-sleeved white chef’s jacket he received as a gift from the Michelin rep because his 10-foot by 10-foot cooking area gets very hot. Martínez says the secret to the taco stand’s success is keeping the menu simple and concentrating on quality. Customers have one option – beef tacos. “The secret is the simplicity of our taco. It has only a tortilla, red or green sauce, and that’s it. That, and the quality of the meat,” he said. He would not reveal where the meat comes from, the outlet noted, but did say he cooks the meat at a very specific temperature. The cohosts of ABC’s “The View” spent nearly an entire segment complaining about Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and his recent commencement speech criticizing both President Joe Biden and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Cohost Whoopi Goldberg kicked off Thursday’s broadcast by saying that while she did not personally share Butker’s views on those topics, she believed it was important for him to have the same right to free speech and expression that everyone else had. “He’s at a Catholic college, he’s a staunch Catholic. She claimed that Butker was practicing something “divergent” from mainstream Catholicism that was “cult-like” and “extremist,” comparing his belief system to “some religions in the Middle East.” “This is a very extreme religion,” Haines continued. “And what bothers me about that as a Christian is that when people abuse Christianity they often not only cherry pick from the Bible, they misinterpret and lie by omission.” She went on to say that Butker was “not walking with Jesus.” Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin followed Haines up by complaining about the fact that he mentioned DEI at all — noting that it was not in the Bible — and suggesting that if he was going to be critical of Biden, he should have also mentioned former President Donald Trump.
