Hades 2 Patch 1 buffs resource gathering and sprint speed: Full patch notes, listed

Supergiant Games has released the first major patch for Hades 2 since its Early Access launch on May 6. The Hades 2 Patch 1 buffs resource gathering and sprint speed, amongst other important additions and tweaks. Patch 1 for Hades 2 improves sprint speed and resource gathering On May 16, Supergiant Games posted the Early Access Patch 1 notes alongside the patch itself. Patch 1 for Hades 2 introduces buffs for resource gathering and sprint speed, but those are just two of many new improvements and changes. The most exciting improvements have to be the changes with resource gathering. Once you’ve unlocked the correct Gathering Tool, you can gather from any resource point. Selecting a Tool in the Training Grounds allows for other resources not to appear as often as the one you prioritized. It also improved the Sprint speed, making Melinoe run faster and her turning more responsive. Here’s the full list of notes from Patch 1: General Gameplay Your Sprint is i...

Immich Teams Up to Innovate Privacy-First Photo Storage

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Immich, an open-source, self-hosted photo and video backup alternative to Google Photos, that aims to compete with the giant by having no ads or trackers, has joined FUTO. FUTO describes itself as an organization whose mission is to “frustrate” centralization and industry consolidation, and a recent conversation between representatives of both projects delved into some new features coming to Immich, as well as plans for the app. If you’re interested in Immich, check out our exploration here. FUTO’s Louis Rossmann spoke about plans to offer a cloud-hosted option in the future, while Immich developers announced that the new features will include automatic add face albums, fine-tuning, federation, a duplicate photo finder, and more machine learning-based functionality. Immich’s FUTO membership means that the organization will help solve one of the key problems faced by open-source projects – monetization. Rossmann revealed that at first this will happen with millions of dollars in funding, and later by selling this software, as well as offering paid cloud-hosted service. The appeal of self-hosted backup solutions as an alternative to the Google products is mostly based in the privacy-hostile business model that underpins Google’s offering, in addition to the danger of having it falsely label images as, for example, illegal content. As with pretty much every other Google app or service, users get to figuratively pay several times over for the convenience of Google Photos – not only by exposing their data, but also letting the tech giant profit by using their photographs to train machine learning algorithms (which, in turn, can lead to said extremely dangerous false accusations). In addition to the plans announced now, Immich was already considered a serious alternative to Google, not only on the strength of its open-source model and focus on privacy, but also because its existing features make the experience of using it both on Android and iOS very close to that of Google Photos. The major difference, of course, is that users host and therefore control their photos and videos instead of trusting Google to do this for them. In addition to automatic updates, Immich users can manage albums, share their content, and have access to keyword search, GPS tagging, and GPU-accelerated facial recognition. Even Among Animals Offspring Are Surprisingly Expensive

It takes a lot of energy to make a baby, whatever species you are. Biologists studying animal energy expenditure have been underestimating the requirements of reproduction for decades by focusing on the direct costs and ignoring or underestimating the indirect costs, which a new assessment indicates are much larger. When a baby (or an egg) is growing, there is an energy cost to the mother to form the organs and tissue – there is a reason we talk of “eating for two”. This is described as the direct cost, in contrast to indirect cost such as the raised metabolism associated with pregnancy. Several methods have been used to estimate these costs, but according to new work led by Samuel Ginther of Monash University's School of Biological Sciences, all have been badly wrong. According to Ginther and colleagues, direct costs have been calculated fairly accurately, but indirect energy consumption has been vastly underestimated, or ignored altogether.“Mechanistic theories,” the authors write, “Include explicit estimates of indirect costs but assume that they are trivial, ranging from 5 to 25 percent of the total energy spent on reproduction.” Try telling that to someone who has carried a pregnancy in a heatwave. Other processes for estimation mention indirect costs, but refer to them as being so trivial as to be able to ignore them. We recommend not mentioning that to someone who is pregnant.Fortunately, however, there is no need for such handwaving guesses; scientists have monitored energy consumption in many species during reproduction, including examples from mammals, reptiles, and fish. Ginther and colleagues pulled this data together for 81 species to reveal indirect costs almost always outweigh direct costs. The contrast is particularly sharp in mammals, where females on average expend nine times as much energy indirectly as directly. Moreover, this only counts the cost during pregnancy, not the energy involved in producing milk, protecting young from danger, providing warmth in winter, and teaching them life skills.Humans are a particularly extreme example, with 96 percent of the energy required to produce a baby being spent indirectly. The authors attribute this primarily to our long gestations. Humans don’t have the highest indirect costs, however. White-tailed deer expend 470 Megajoules indirectly for each birth. That’s the highest in the study sample, but Ginther told IFLScience elephants or blue whales would almost certainly be higher still, their metabolism is just a lot harder to track.Egg-laying species have higher proportional direct costs, partly because they often produce many young at once, but even here the estimates have been too low. Egg-laying cold-blooded animals expend 31 percent of their energy indirectly on average, while the figure is 55 percent for cold-blooded species that give birth to live young, like some sharks. Birds were not included in the sample because the authors could find data for two species, which they considered insufficient for drawing conclusions.“These findings have significant implications for understanding how animals evolve and adapt to their environments. They also raise concerns about the potential impact of climate change on species' reproductive success, as the study found that indirect costs are particularly sensitive to temperature fluctuations,” Ginther said in a statement.Ginther told IFLScience it’s hard to measure an animal’s metabolism throughout gestation, and so when someone guessed the metabolic costs were low it was probably copied and repeated without checking. It’s taken a long time for the experimental data to build up.All these estimates are for the female contribution. However, there is a widespread assumption in biology that, on average, males of a species expend the same amount of energy to reproduce as females, just in different ways. The direct costs of sperm production are probably tiny, but the courtship displays, production of exotic feathers, and fights for dominance can be hugely demanding. This assumed equality is more than a guess; if reproduction took a lesser toll on one sex than the other, individuals could maximize their chance of grandchildren by having more children of that sex. Yet, if this equality of the sexes does apply, male indirect energy expenditure must also have been greatly underestimated, at least in mammals.“It’s very tricky to quantify the energy spent on mate attraction or fighting,” Ginther told IFLScience. This is probably particularly true when calculating the damage done in battle. Nevertheless, the authors recommend investigating whether the assumption of energy equality is correct.Meanwhile, if you’re thinking about having children but are not sure if you can afford them, know that you are not alone. The study is published in the journal Science.

MRC’s Bozell Warns of Soros-Funded ‘Fascistic’ Plot Amid 2024 Election

Leftist billionaire George Soros is “behind an all-out effort to shut down” free speech in the United States, MRC President Brent Bozell declared on Thursday. Bozell’s scorching remarks came in response to an MRC report that exposed Soros as one of the financiers of an anti-free speech cartel beseeching Big Tech platforms to censor Americans ahead of the 2024 presidential election. “I think Americans really need to be worried about this man,” Bozell said during an interview on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. “I think he's the greatest threat to democracy — not just in this country, but worldwide — and the things he's doing are frightening.” Read the Bombshell! George Soros Fueled $80M Into Groups Calling for Big Tech Censorship in Lead-Up to 2024 Elections At the center of Bozell’s warning is a media group’s letter pressuring social media platforms to censor content under the auspice of “implement[ing] election-integrity policies to protect democracy worldwide.” The letter, which Bozell lambasted for its “really fascistic attitude toward democracy,” was signed by over 200 groups and was led by the Soros-funded media group Free Press (not to be confused with journalist Bari Weiss’s The Free Press). In it, these groups pressed for “swift action” to allegedly protect democracy by keeping a “safe and healthy” environment for users. That is, by suppressing content that goes against their ideologies. But here’s the kicker: MRC research found that a large portion of these anti-free speech cartel non-profits have been bankrolled by none other than Soros.  “Of those 200 organizations, 45 of them were funded by George Soros … to the tune of $80 million — 45 that we know of. It’s probably more than that,” Bozell declared.  Reiterating the MRC’s findings, Bozell warned that these left-wing organizations “went to everybody in Big Tech whether it was Meta, TikTok, Google, YouTube” to call for the censorship of “conservatives, censor faith-based groups, censor Donald Trump yet again, shut down any, any debate over climate change.” More on Soros: Is He Buying Universities’ Silence on Anti-Semitic Agitators? Massachusetts to convert prison into shelter for illegal aliens

Massachusetts plans to convert a shuttered prison into an emergency "safety-net" site for illegal aliens, Democrat Governor Maura Healey's office confirmed to WCVB on Saturday. The Bay State Correctional Center in Norfolk was decommissioned in 2015 but will soon serve as temporary housing for approximately 140 local homeless and illegal immigrant families residing in Massachusetts, the only state with a right-to-shelter law.The state's emergency shelter system reached capacity at 7,500 families in November.'All we know is we have got people coming here.'According to Emergency Assistance Director Scott Rice, the facility is still "in good condition," WCVB reported. Previously a minimum-security prison, the building reportedly features dorm-like rooms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, a common room, and offices. Residents will have access to showers and bathrooms on each floor.Rice told the news outlet that the state also plans to create a play area for children and classroom spaces for adults. The facility will host English for Speakers of Other Languages courses, job training, and housing search workshops, he added. Razor wire on the fence that lines the property will be removed, and the facility's gates will remain open. The emergency shelter should be operational in June. Many of the families who will reside at the facility are currently sleeping at Boston's Logan International Airport, the governor's office stated. The town of Norfolk told WBZ-TV that it only learned the prison would be converted into shelter space on Friday. On Saturday, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll briefed the town on the plan. According to Norfolk officials, the prison will serve as a shelter for illegal immigrants for six to 12 months. They told WBZ they had "no role in this decision" and were "not consulted prior." Officials noted that the plan to turn the prison into a shelter has "many logistical challenges," which they plan to discuss with school leaders and police and fire chiefs. Jim Lehan, a member of the Norfolk Select Board, stated, "We were taken back a little bit.""When you have no knowledge of it, and you start getting phone calls about something you have no idea what they are calling about. That was a little tough," he added. "All we know is we have got people coming here and we have got issues that are related to it, and we are going to have to work our way through it."Lehan noted that the town's elementary school does not have the space to support a large influx of additional children. The town had meetings scheduled this week with the state to discuss the project's financial costs and who would foot the bill. In late April, the governor's office announced that it would convert a National Guard armory in Lexington into a shelter for illegal immigrants despite the building's ongoing use.Paul Craney of the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance told Blaze News, "The responsibility for the migrant crisis Massachusetts is currently facing rests solely with executive and legislative leadership on Beacon Hill. First migrants maxed out our shelter system, then they maxed out hotels which were rented for them, now they've maxed out the overflow sites and are about to encroach upon our national defense installations. Governor Healey has proven time and time again that she is willing to do just about anything except address the root cause of the issue. Until Beacon Hill addresses the factors that are making us a magnet for people around the world, this problem is only going to continue to get worse."According to a March press release from Healey's office, illegal immigrants residing in the state's overflow shelters must reapply monthly and provide evidence that they are attempting to become independent. Whitlock: Tom Brady owes Gisele an apology after roast

While Tom Brady made sure that Patriots owner Robert Kraft was immune to jokes at his Netflix roast, he didn’t seem to care much when they were aimed at the mother of his children. Now, Brady is acknowledging that the jokes have impacted his children. “I loved when the jokes were about me; I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way that it affected my kids,” Brady said after the roast. “All of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again, because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world,” he continued, before calling himself “naive.” Jason Whitlock isn’t impressed. “He’s still reluctant to say in my view, ‘cause what he should say is ‘I don’t like the way it affected the mother of my kids and my kids,’” Whitlock says. “They can get divorced, the world allows it, but that will always be the mother of his kids. And denigrating her and making her a laughingstock has impact on her and his kids,” he continues. Shemeka Michelle is in full agreement. “I think Tom Brady is full of manure to me. This is a case of throwing a rock and then hiding your hands. Anybody that has watched a roast knows that there are no limits. There are no lines, nothing is off limits,” she says. “You don’t go in there thinking just joke on me. That’s silly and that’s weak,” she adds.Want more from Jason Whitlock? NFL scandals abound, but Butker’s pro-family speech sparks outrage

NFL scandals abound, but Butker’s pro-family speech sparks outrage

Around 50 NFL players are arrested on average every year. Since 2000, the Kansas City Chiefs have supplied 41 of those arrests, tied for fourth in the league. NFL player arrests include 129 cases of domestic violence, 120 assault or battery cases, and even a handful of murder and homicide cases. The number of NFL players who have destroyed their lives with drugs and alcohol, or who have fathered children they don’t raise or never even see, is too many to count. Why? Why are the media so angry? Why the shrieking character assassination of a man who kicks a ball for a living? Young Americans look up to star athletes, but far too often those players are the worst role models imaginable. Yet not much ever changes. As long as a player can get 1,500 yards or 15 sacks in a year, he can get away with just about anything. Just ask Deshaun Watson, who got a record-breaking $230 million contract after being exposed as a creepy sex pervert. The NFL and the press do little and say little about the many malefactors of the football world. Instead, they have bigger fish to fry. Fish like Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Right now, Butker is being denounced by the NFL and going through a trial by media for … encouraging young women to live happy and fulfilling lives. Whoops! Apparently, he would have been better off punching one of them in the face or getting two or three of them pregnant. Plenty of his fellow players do that without headline news coverage. Nothing about Butker’s commencement speech at tiny Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, was a surprise. Benedictine is one of the handful of Catholic colleges where the word actually holds some meaning, rather than being a superficial label attached to a college basketball team. Butker has been a vocal and proud Catholic throughout his career in the NFL. He’s given interviews on his faith. He wore a tie with a pro-life message on it when the Chiefs visited the White House after the 2023 Super Bowl. And so, lo and behold, when Butker arrived at Benedictine, he gave a Catholic commencement speech. Imagine! Butker talked about the importance of living one’s faith publicly and proudly, rather than silently and secretly. He talked about the scandal of supposed Catholics, including the sitting president, mingling the faith with endorsements of grave moral crimes like abortion. He called on Catholic priests to be better leaders and promoted the Latin Mass. He called pride a deadly sin, which it is. And, yes, Butker told the women in the audience that they would probably get more happiness from being wives and mothers at home than they would from the workplace. He was moved literally to tears when he spoke of his love and appreciation for his own wife, Isabelle, as the mother of his children. He called out and attacked the lies that millions of young women have been told, lies that leave many of them lonely and miserable rather than fulfilled and happy. Butker told the truth to women, rather than repeating the same lies that are everywhere in a society, where women are increasingly medicated and increasingly miserable. For that, he’s being treated like a pariah. Outlets like Rolling Stone have spread the deranged lie that Butker’s speech was somehow an anti-Semitic screed. This is baseless, but it shows how seriously they want to hurt him. Butker will be fine. In fact, I have no doubt he feels joy that he could be publicly tested for his faith in this way and pass the test. But the question remains: Why? Why are the media so angry? Why the shrieking character assassination of a man who kicks a ball for a living? It’s precisely because their narrative control is crumbling. If the regime felt fully confident about the stories it tells, and its hold on the public, then it wouldn’t fret about some crank telling his own theories to a few thousand people in Kansas. But the regime isn’t confident. It doesn’t have narrative control. The elites fear there will be more Harrison Butkers, more people who speak freely without respecting regime pieties and without regard to threats from the media or anyone else. We should make their fears become reality.

'Ronda says f*** you': Ronda Rousey says ex-UFC fighter Brendan Schaub 'thrived' on mind games, tried to hide relationship

Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey claimed in her book that fellow UFC alumnus Brendan Schaub, who she dated, refused to publicly acknowledge that they were in a relationship.During the promotion of her book "Our Fight," Rousey has made consistent headlines surrounding her various claims that have left fans perplexed. Her latest claim comes from a leaked excerpt from the book, posted to Reddit, where she described her feelings about her ex-boyfriend Schaub and current husband Travis Browne fighting each other at UFC 181 in 2014."Travis had been training with us for a while when it was announced that his first fight as an official member of our team would be against my ex-boyfriend," Rousey wrote, referring to her gym the Glendale Fighting Club.'When Travis knocked him out at the end of the first round, I didn't think it could get any more gratifying. My ex covered up on the ground while Travis pounded away on him.'Rousey then claimed that Schaub would play mind games with her at the time and, despite it being widely known in the MMA world that the two were dating, wanted to prevent their relationship from being confirmed publicly. "My ex thrived on playing f***ed-up mind games with me when I had a fight coming up and insisted we hide that we were dating so he wouldn’t be labeled 'Ronda Rousey’s Boyfriend,'" Rousey stated."As Travis headed into the match up, I pretended it wasn't personal. I tried not to be overly involved or emotional. This wasn’t my fight. I was hoping he would win, but I was in training camp, so I didn't really think too much more about it," she remembered. "That is until it was on live TV, and I lost my goddamn mind. Screaming at the top of my lungs, 'Get him, Travis!' while punching the arm of the person on the couch next to me."Excerpt from Ronda Rousey’s book talmbout B Schaub playing f’d up mind games during her fights. And hiding their relationship so he wouldn’t be labeled as ‘Ronda Rousey’s boyfriend’ byu/KhabibTime inthefighterandthekidRousey then recalled the end of the fight, which, it should be noted, wasn't quite how it actually turned out."When Travis knocked him out at the end of the first round, I didn't think it could get any more gratifying. My ex covered up on the ground while Travis pounded away on him. The referee waved the match over. Then Travis, towering over the crumpled, semi-conscious body of my ex, leaned down and whispered something in his ear. His words were indiscernible to the camera, but I swore I could hear Travis' voice saying, 'Ronda says f*** you,'" she recalled. The fight's ending, which of course is available online, doesn't entirely match the description that Rousey gave in her emotional tale. At the end of the fight, Browne indeed remained in a dominant position over Schaub as the referee stopped the match. However, Schaub was seen complaining to the referee about the stoppage and was seemingly arguing with Browne at the same time the alleged statements (according to Rousey) were made. There was no visible or televised "whisper" to Schaub, who immediately began getting up after Browne made remarks to him.The former bantamweight champion has made several questionable claims during her book release. She stated that she is "the greatest fighter that has ever lived" and only stopped due to concussions, losing her last two fights. This left fans and even commentators confused as she embarked on a full-time career in the WWE shortly after retiring from mixed martial arts. She would then claim three weeks later that the entirety of MMA media, including Joe Rogan, turned its back on her, calling media figures fakes and "a bunch of a**holes." The underlying reason for this claim was that no one in the media had called her to apologize for criticizing her over her retirement and final fights once they found out about her concussions. Ronda Rousey: MMA media hates me, it's fine. No, not a single person has called me or anything like that. They've all just doubled down and said that I'm making excuses. Or lying. Or was blowing things out of proportion. Or not giving credit where it's due. \n\nFull podcast here: — (@) Like Blaze News?
