IT’S ON! Biden & Trump Accept CNN’s Invitation for a Presidential Debate on June 27

Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s campaign officially accepted an invitation by CNN for a presidential debate to be held on June 27th. Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again.Well, make my day, pal. pic.twitter.com/AkPmvs2q4u— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) May 15, 2024 From CNN: President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have both accepted an invitation from CNN to debate on June 27, a historically early showdown that will set the tone for the final months of the 2024 campaign. “I’ve received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place,” Biden said in a post on X. A Trump campaign official later told CNN that Trump had accepted the offer. The news is the latest development in a quickly escalating tit-for-tat over debates between the two political rivals. Biden’s campaign earlier called on Trump to join him for two presidential debates hosted by news organizations and formally informed the Commission on Presidential Debates that the president will not participate in its previously scheduled fall debates. The former president quickly said he was on board with earlier debates and told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would accept any moderator. Biden only recently said that he was happy to debate Trump, though he was non-committal on the format of such a debate, telling radio host Howard Stern, “I’m happy to debate him.” In a social media video and a subsequent letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates, Biden’s campaign laid out its proposed terms, including possible debate dates in June and September. The video of Biden speaking directly to a camera released Wednesday morning was a more direct challenge. “Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again,” Biden said in a direct-to-camera video released Wednesday.

Despicable Alvin Bragg Gives Police Beaters Plea Deals

This next story is truly despicable.  Alvin Bragg, who wants to imprison, Donald Trump, for not committing a crime and the good Samaritan, Daniel, Penny, offered plea deals to the illegal aliens who viciously attacked two police officers. They aren’t even being deported. The plea deals offer most of them just one year in jail […] The post Despicable Alvin Bragg Gives Police Beaters Plea Deals appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

April Inflation Hits 3.4% As Housing, Gas Prices Remain High

Prices last month were up 3.4% compared to April 2023, largely due to high gas prices and rising rent costs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  The statistics, released on Wednesday, show that prices in April rose 0.3% from March, with most of the increases coming from gas and shelter costs. Energy prices jumped 1.1% in April from March as gas prices remained elevated. April’s 0.3% monthly increase comes after back-to-back monthly increases of 0.4% in February and March.  “The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.3 percent in April, after rising 0.4 percent in each of the 3 preceding months,” according to a summary of the Consumer Price Index. “Indexes which increased in April include shelter, motor vehicle insurance, medical care, apparel, and personal care.” Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said on Tuesday that inflation so far in 2024 had been higher than expected.  “We did not expect this to be a smooth road, but these were higher than I think anybody expected,” he said. “What that has told us is that we will need to be patient and let restrictive policy do its work.” Inflation has been a consistent problem for President Joe Biden as he has campaigned for re-election on his “Bidenomics” message. Earlier this week, Biden claimed in an interview that inflation was at 9% when he became president back in January 2021. Inflation was actually at 1.4% when he became president and had jumped to over 9% in June 2022, a 40-year high.  Polling from Gallup conducted last month showed that over 40% of Americans named inflation or the high cost of living as the most important financial problem facing their family.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Former President Donald Trump has campaigned hard against Biden’s economic record, and one political action committee backing him launched an interactive website for people to compare their grocery bills under Trump to those under Biden. “New inflation data shows that since January 21, groceries are up 21.3%, rent is up 20.8%, electricity bills are up 28.5%,” MAGA War Room posted on X. “Auto insurance is up 52.1%, Eggs are up 43.5%, baby food and formula up 30.0%”

CNN To Hold First 2024 Debate Between Trump And Biden With No Audience

On Wednesday, shortly after President Joe Biden challenged former President Donald Trump to a pair of debates on his terms, CNN announced that it would hold the first event in late June with no audience in the battleground state of Georgia. CNN said in a press release the debate would be held in the cable network’s Atlanta studios at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, embracing the proposal from Biden’s campaign to have the first event in the latter part of that month. “To ensure candidates may maximize the time allotted in the debate, no audience will be present,” the press release said, adding that moderators for the debate and other details would be announced at a later date. Trump on June 27, 2024 at 9pm ET from the crucial battleground state of Georgia." pic.twitter.com/dR74Q9VVLB — Alex Thompson (@AlexThomp) May 15, 2024 CNN said that the qualifications required to participate in the debate included a candidate’s name appearing on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency before the eligibility deadline. That would leave an opening for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to make it into the debate stage, though his inclusion would reject one of the stipulations made by Biden’s campaign to have a one-on-one contest with Trump. CNN also said candidates must agree to accept the rules and format of the debate and receive “at least 15% in four separate national polls of registered or likely voters that meet CNN’s standards for reporting.” The polling window to determine eligibility for the debate, according to CNN, opened on March 13 and closes seven days before the date of the debate. CNN also listed a number of polls that meet its editorial standards. While some see Kennedy as running a potential spoiler campaign, the third-party candidate has been working to get on the ballot in all 50 states and has reached double-digit support in some polls. Kennedy said in a post to X that keeping “viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy.” Trump’s team released a memo addressed to Biden’s campaign that said the former president had accepted CNN’s debate invitation and noted that he approved Biden’s proposal for a debate in September. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Biden’s campaign, which made other demands, including “firm” time limits for answers and turning off a candidate’s microphone when it is not that person’s time to speak, did not immediately respond to the counter-offer, but the president did accept CNN’s plan. “I’ve received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place,” Biden said in a post to X. Both Trump and Biden later announced they had accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate on Tuesday, September 10, which would be hosted by ABC News.
