Colbert, Jeffries: GOP Opposes 'Access to Health Care For Everybody'

CBS's Stephen Colbert welcomed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to the Thursday taping of The Late Show to promote his new children's book and to help explain the difference between Republicans and Democrats. This being The Late DNC Show, Colbert would conclude that the answer is that Republicans don't believe everyone should have health care. After Colbert asked the question the first time, he noticed Jefferies gave a generic answer about how Democrats wanted to make people’s lives better, “Just to drill down just a little bit deeper on that, because almost everything in what you just said, while a very good thing to say, a Republican sitting in that seat might say the same thing, other than access to health care for everybody. That might be the one thing where they would—”     The unintended joke is that there hasn't been "a Republican sitting in that seat" for years, but nevertheless, as the audience started applauding, Colbert continued, “no, because they don't believe in universal health care. They would like to get rid of Obamacare. That is the one big division, or that is one of the big divisions that you named. Are there other specific things that you go ‘I am a Democrat, therefore I believe this should happen. That my opponents do not believe should happen.’ That's what I mean by define the Democratic message. What does it mean to be a Democrat as opposed to what it means to be, how you perceive the Republicans?” A Republican might also say they believe in health care access, they just don't agree with Democratic proposals. Still, Jeffries responded with more specifics this time, but they were both dishonest portrayals of what Donald Trump actually ran on and came across as man who is cynically uninterested in the future, “Well, we will protect and strengthen Social Security, not eradicate it or end it as we know it. We’ll protect and strengthen Medicare, protect the Affordable Care Act because we believe that in the United States of America, of course, health care should not be a privilege, it should be a right and we want to bring that to life.” Social Security is running out of money, and if Congress does nothing, current recipients will see their benefits cut, but Democrats aren’t interested in reform because they would rather just raise taxes. Being a Democrat, Jeffries also felt compelled to hype abortion, “We believe that every job in America should be a good-paying job that allows you to live a comfortable life. Provide for your families and we also believe in a woman's freedom to make her own reproductive health care decisions.” One right Democrats do not want to bring to life is the right to life. Here is a transcript for the November 21-taped show: CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 11/22/2024 12:11 AM ET STEPHEN COLBERT: Just to drill down just a little bit deeper on that, because almost everything in what you just said, while a very good thing to say, a Republican sitting in that seat might say the same thing, other than access to health care for everybody. That might be the one thing where they would -- no, because they don't believe in universal health care. They would like to get rid of Obamacare. That is the one big division, or that is one of the big divisions that you named. Are there other specific things that you go “I am a Democrat, therefore I believe this should happen. That my opponents do not believe should happen.” That's what I mean by define the Democratic message. Target apologizes after employee was allegedly fired for signaling her Christian faith

Target has apologized and reportedly offered to reinstate a North Dakota employee who claims she was fired for writing "trust in Jesus" in marker on her name tag. Target vows on its corporate site to "make decisions regarding employment opportunities, including hiring, promotion and advancement, without regard" to religious beliefs and states it wants a company "where all feel seen, heard and welcome." Denise Kendrick of Fargo was seen and then made unwelcome on Nov. 16 by the DEI-captive organization. Kendrick told KVLY-TV that a manager approached her and informed her that she "can't wear that name tag." 'I've seen people with rainbows on theirs.' This came as a surprise to Kendrick because she had worn Christian-themed T-shirts for months to work allegedly without incident in the super-majority Christian state. Kendrick noted in a video on her YouTube channel, "For several months, I had been wearing my red T-shirts that I ordered myself, my Christian red T-shirts, OK. I didn't wear the he/she/they/whatever T-shirts that Target supplied. I wore my own and never had any problem the whole entire time that I worked there."' Besides an apparent absence of backlash from customers, Kendrick indicated that the "trust in Jesus" note was her equivalent to other employees' name-tag displays of belief and ideological affiliation. "I replied, 'Well, I've seen people with rainbows on theirs. I’m going to continue to wear this name tag,'" Kendrick told KVLY. "And then they said, 'Well, you can't work here any more.'" 'The darker it gets, the brighter our lights should shine.' According to Kendrick, when she asked for a written explanation detailing why exactly she was fired, the manager refused and instead provided her with a list of contact information pertaining to the company's dress code policy. "They gave me this paper with all these phone numbers on it and said, 'If you have any questions about the violation of the dress code, just call one of these numbers,'" Kendrick told KVLY. "And he just kept repeating it, and we just kept going back and forth, and it was going nowhere." The incident may have been triggered by the intolerance of a customer. Prior to her termination, Kendrick claimed she saw a visible member of the LGBT community, whom she served as cashier earlier in the day, communicating with the "HR lady." On Tuesday, a spokesman said in a statement obtained by KVLY, "Upon learning of the situation, we conducted a review and determined that the team member should not have been terminated. We apologized to her and offered to reinstate her immediately." "We are taking the appropriate steps to address the actions taken by the individual leader involved in this situation and are working with the store to ensure our policies are appropriately followed moving forward," added the spokesman. Kendrick noted in a video on her YouTube channel, "Following Christ, you know, means taking up our cross every day and standing on the truth, guys. Now more than ever, OK, the darker it gets, the brighter our lights should shine." Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Washington Post to remove senior politics editor in wake of Trump victory

The Washington Post will soon remove its senior politics editor as the fallout from President-elect Donald Trump's decisive electoral victory continues to wreak havoc at liberal media outlets across the country.According to a Thursday report from Lachlan Cartwright of the Hollywood Reporter, Dan Eggen, a longtime WaPo employee and current senior politics editor, delivered the news to his colleagues in a cryptic email."I struggled with how to write this message since there is an element of begging to it that is not particularly attractive. But what the hey: I was informed Monday that I will be removed as senior politics editor at the end of the year. I will leave it to others to explain why."The news certainly comes as a shock, considering Eggen's lengthy career at the outlet. Eggen first joined the paper more than 25 years ago and was promoted to senior politics editor in 2022. Eggen professed to be "crushed" by the decision to remove him, Cartwright added.Whether Eggen will remain at the outlet following his apparent demotion remains unclear. In response to a request for comment, a spokesperson told the New York Post that the Washington Post does not comment on personnel decisions.'Most people believe the media is biased.'The move comes just weeks after the WaPo refused to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, the second major left-leaning outlet to do so in the 2024 election. The Los Angeles Times likewise opted not to endorse a candidate, prompting a flurry of resignations and a significant drop in subscriptions. Both the Washington Post, owned by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, and the Los Angeles Times seem to want to change the way they cover the political landscape in the U.S. In an op-ed published on October 28, Bezos admitted that his and other outlets have lost the trust of readers because of political bias."We must be accurate, and we must be believed to be accurate. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but we are failing on the second requirement. Most people believe the media is biased," he wrote, as Blaze News previously reported.L.A. Times owner Dr. Pat Soon-Shiong has also said that the entire editorial board at his outlet will be replaced and that the new board will include conservative "voices.""I will work towards making our paper and media fair and balanced so that all voices are heard and we can respectfully exchange every American's view," Soon-Shiong posted to X on November 10.Print media are not the only outlets to abandon their leftist perches, at least publicly. Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC recently paid Trump a visit at Mar-a-Lago to "restart communications.""In this meeting, President Trump was tearful. He was upbeat. He seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues," Brzezinski said on Monday. "And for those asking why we would go speak to the president-elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn't we?"In the days since the announced meeting with Trump, "Morning Joe" ratings have tanked 15%, as liberal viewers reportedly see it as a betrayal.Like Blaze News? DEBATE: Should congressmen be allowed in women’s bathrooms?

DEBATE: Should congressmen be allowed in women’s bathrooms?

House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced a new policy that explicitly states that transgender women must use the men’s bathroom and transgender men must use the women’s bathroom while in the Capitol. This was in response to Representative-elect “Sarah” McBride, who identifies as a transgender woman, winning the Delaware seat. “These are women’s spaces, and we should have a say. We shouldn’t have to bend to the rules of men who wear a skirt, who say that they have a right to infiltrate our spaces. I mean, these are private, sex-segregated spaces for a reason,” Allie Beth Stuckey of “Relatable” comments. Brad Polumbo of the “Brad vs. Everyone Podcast” disagrees. “I just see the whole thing as a solution in search of a problem. Basically, they’ve been using the facilities of their gender identity for years and years,” he tells Stuckey. “Even when you zoom out and look across the country, instances of physical assault or voyeurism or harassment in bathrooms are incredibly statistically rare.” “And these gender identity ordinances that they’ve passed in many blue areas that allow people to use their preferred bathroom, those don’t correspond with any increase empirically in those crimes, in those offenses, according to a whole host of studies,” he continues. “So I view the whole thing as kind of a culture war outrage that’s solving a problem that isn’t really there,” he adds. However, Polumbo appears to be making the mistake of seeing the situation solely from a male perspective — as there are legitimate reasons a woman wouldn’t want to share a bathroom with a man who believes he is a woman. “We’re talking specifically about women,” Stuckey responds. “No man is really afraid of the 5'4” guy, or actually female, with a beard, because he’s been on testosterone for a few years coming into his bathroom.” “It is, of course, women who are justifiably nervous about the 6'2” guy who happens to be wearing a skirt and lipstick coming into her bathroom not only with her, but also with her 10-year-old daughter. Also, while she may be breastfeeding, also while she may be pumping, while she may be changing, she may be doing things that, of course, require privacy. That’s why we have bathrooms,” she continues. While Polumbo goes on to claim that conservatives' fear of transgender women in women’s bathrooms is the same as the fear of a Catholic priest molesting a child, Stuckey couldn’t disagree more. “I don’t think that’s a good analogy, because it’s not only that we are saying that men who identify as women may violate these girls. I understand that not every man who identifies as a woman is going to inflict violence upon a girl or a woman. It’s not only that though. It is in violation of reality, it is in violation of the truth,” she explains. “There is a cost to saying that ‘two plus two equals five.’ Now, you could say it doesn’t really harm you to say that ‘two plus two equals five,’” she continues, “but I believe in violation of the rules of nature and the laws of reality.” Want more from Allie Beth Stuckey? To enjoy more of Allie’s upbeat and in-depth coverage of culture, news, and theology from a Christian, conservative perspective, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Razer’s skins were originally launched in 2023, with the ones for the Steam Deck now totaling nine different ones. The government’s plan to break up Google

Image: Alex Parkin / The Verge For two decades, Google Search has been unstoppable. Invincible. So thoroughly dominant that would-be competitors often couldn’t even get funding, because investors didn’t see the point in trying. But earlier this year, a judge declared that Google’s power, and the way the company wields it, was an illegal monopoly. And so now the US Department of Justice has to figure out how to undo it. On this episode of The Vergecast, we dig into the DOJ’s first attempt at a plan. The Verge’s Lauren Feiner joins the show to talk through the recently filed proposal, which includes selling Chrome, possibly selling Android, and requiring Google to give vast quantities of its search tech and data to anyone wanting to compete. We try to figure out... Continue reading…
