Veepstakes Contender J.D. Vance Assails Manhattan Prosecution Against Trump: ‘They Won’t Even Specify The Crime’

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who is part of the veepstakes this election cycle, argued on Sunday that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is running a politically motivated case against former President Donald Trump. During an interview on CNN, anchor Dana Bash asked Vance if Trump should be treated differently amid his legal battles because he is a former president again running for the White House. “I don’t think he should be treated differently at all, Dana, but I certainly think he is being treated differently,” Vance said. “The only thing that Alvin Bragg, the New York prosecutor’s team thinks Donald Trump did wrong is that he ran for president in 2024 and he looks to be on the cusp of victory. That is the only thing that this is ultimately about.” Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up payments, including to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, in a bid to conceal damaging information as part of a “catch-and-kill” scheme to influence the 2016 election. He has pleaded not guilty, and the trial is ongoing. (@JackPosobiec) May 12, 2024 Vance, who appeared with other potential Trump running mates at Mar-a-Lago last weekend, argued that prosecutors have a weak case based on a legal theory that some experts have suggested is on questionable footing because of a dubious legal theory used to gussy up misdemeanor charges to the felony level. “If you look at the underlying argument of the case, they can’t even identify what it is that Donald Trump did. They said he committed a paperwork violation in the service of a crime, but they won’t even specify the crime that he allegedly committed,” Vance said. “And I think that when you look at all of these attacks on Donald Trump, you have to be honest with yourself and say, this is not about law and this is not about justice.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP With polls showing Trump outperforming President Joe Biden less than six months before Election Day, Vance insisted the New York prosecution and other legal cases levied against the former president are meant to be a distraction. “This is about the fact that President Joe Biden has a failed record as commander in chief and leader of this country, and the Democrats can’t talk about that,” Vance said. “So what they’re doing is putting these trials out there and saying, focus on this, not on the fact that the world is on fire and the fact that you have gotten poorer under the presidency of Joe Biden.”

Biden Got Sucked Into ‘Pro-Hamas Wing Of His Party,’ Sen. Rick Scott Says

President Joe Biden has joined the “pro-Hamas wing of his party,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) said on Sunday, reacting to a controversy over the Democrat commander-in-chief’s threat to withhold arms from Israel. Scott argued during a “Fox News Sunday” interview that Biden was bowing to the Left wing of his party out of concern that he would lose their support and be defeated by former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. “I’ve always believed that, you know, Biden is unfortunately now part of the pro-Hamas wing of his party — that’s all they’re worried about is — he’s worried about winning a presidential election,” Scott said. “Thank God for President Trump, he is one of the most pro-Israel presidents in our history and I hope he wins so, you know, we can get somebody in there that’s going to support Israel,” he added. During a CNN town hall on Wednesday, Biden said he “made it clear” to Israel that if it conducts a major ground operation in Rafah, “we’re not going to supply the weapons and artillery shells.” Scott said Biden’s comments send a “horrible message” to Israel. Noting he was in the country several weeks ago after Hamas conducted a deadly attack on Israel in October, Scott said the Israeli leaders he met “don’t have a choice” when it comes to sending troops into Rafah. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The last battalions are in Rafah,” he said. “If they’re going to destroy Hamas, which they have to do for any security, they have to go in. And they said they’re going to do everything they can to get the civilians out.” He added, “Israel has no choice but to destroy Rafah.” Scott’s colleague in the upper chamber, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), has called on the House to impeach Biden in response to the president’s foreign aid ultimatum. Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) told Fox News that he was preparing articles of impeachment, saying, “The House has no choice but to impeach President ‘Quid pro-Joe’ Biden.”

San Francisco receives backlash for spearheading $5 million program that gives free alcohol to the homeless

A city program that reportedly offers free alcohol to the homeless throughout San Francisco has come under fire after a tech CEO expressed his curiosity about the logic of playing into the addictions that plague city-dwellers, according to the New York Post.Adam Nathan is the founder and CEO of the AI marketing took called Blaze and the chair of the Salvation Army San Francisco Metro Advisory Board, and he recently took his concerns about the new program to X, writing: "Did you know San Francisco spends $2 million a year on a 'Managed Alcohol Program?' It provides free Alcohol to people struggling with chronic alcoholism who are mostly homeless. I stumbled upon the building where they have this program. This is what I saw." — (@) Nathan's X thread described how the city was instituting the program, writing that the "location is an old hotel in SOMA. Inside the lobby, they had a kegs set up to taps where they were basically giving out free beer to the homeless who've been identified with AUD (Alcohol Use Disorder)."“Are we just going to manage people’s addictions with our taxpayer dollars in perpetuity forever? It seems like that’s basically what we’re saying."Toward the end of Nathan's thread, he took a poll, asking his followers if they agreed that the city of San Francisco should be handing free alcohol out to city-dwellers like candy. Of the nearly 13,700 users who voted, almost 81% said they did not agree with the move. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Department of Public Health said the program, which started with just 10 beds, has served 55 clients. Now, the program has 20 beds, which ultimately costs about $5 million per year. Nurses are told to administer certain doses of vodka and beer to those taking part in the program. The report mentioned that this program does not focus on sobriety, but on the participants' overall health. However, it is not just Nathan who has taken issue with the odd program. Mayor London Breed said in February that harm reduction was "not reducing the harm," but instead it has made "things far worse."Breed's move put her in opposition to her own public health department, which insists that harm reduction is the cornerstone of the agency system of care. Breed previously tried to open abstinence-only housing for those formerly homeless, but the proposal was scrapped after receiving backlash, according to the Chronicle.“Are we just going to manage people’s addictions with our taxpayer dollars in perpetuity forever? It seems like that’s basically what we’re saying,” Tom Wolf said, who is in recovery from heroin abuse.“I think we should be spending that money on detox and recovery.”Like Blaze News? Georgia man arrested and charged with murdering a law student in 23-year-old cold case

A Georgia man was recently charged with murdering a 23-year-old first-year law student Tara Louise Baker and subsequently setting her apartment on fire 23 years ago, according to the New York Post.Edrick Lamont Faust, 48, was denied bond in Athens after he was charged with murder, two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, concealing the death of another, arson, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, and a single count of aggravated sodomy. Baker was ultimately found dead in her apartment on January 19, 2001, after emergency responders were called to the scene due to a fire that was later discovered to be arson, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation."Tara Louise Baker was a hardworking student with a bright future ahead of her."In September 2023, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's cold case unit reportedly partnered with Athens-Clarke County police to carry out an "in-depth review and analysis of the ongoing investigation into Baker's death."Faust was arrested on Friday.GBI Director Chris Hosey said, "Tara Louise Baker was a hardworking student with a bright future ahead of her. Tara's life was stolen from her in a horrific act of violence. While this arrest does not bring her back to us, I pray that it helps bring closure to the Baker family as they continue their healing journey.""I am proud of the work of the GBI Cold Case Unit and the GBI agents and scientists that devoted their efforts over the last 23 years to find justice for Tara. I also want to express my gratitude to Athens Clarke-County investigators and members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Georgia State Patrol who have partnered with us in this case. While this arrest is the first step in finding justice for Tara, there is still more work to be done. The GBI and our partners will never stop fighting for justice for victims and their families."Jerry Saulters — now the Chief of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department who was an officer at the crime scene in 2001— commented on the development, saying: “For many years, I have hoped the Baker family would find justice for the loss of Tara."“This is a case that has lived with me throughout my career at ACCPD. I remember being there during that horrific time. Seeing this case now full circle, I appreciate the hard work of the detectives, from then and now. Knowing that the evidence collected at that time contributed to the arrest today gives me tremendous pride in all the officers who worked this case over the years.” Like Blaze News?
