Far-left groups fight among each other after failure to hold onto UCLA encampment

The defense of the encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles has been viewed as wildly successful among far-left groups, but there is some controversy because at one point Los Angeles police officers were able to breach the perimeter before the California Highway Patrol officially cleared the area. The debate of how that happened spilled over to social media this past week, with some accusing the leadership of UAW 4811, who were accused of acting as security for the rear of the camp only to run away when LAPD officers showed up.A far-left account shared screenshots of a WhatsApp chat where someone claims UAW 4811 "also let the cops thru the barricades on the steps to begin with...practically rolled out the red carpet for the cops to come in.""Was outside, can confirm, [they] were also telling people to get off the steps and not defend the encampment," another person chimed in."To dispel the myths: yes, UAW marshals cleared a path in the stairs to keep an exit for those inside the encampment..."The group chat was also angry at the union for allegedly telling people to leave the camp at a time most far-left groups were asking for more people to defend the area. So it turns out that LAPD was able to enter the back of the encampment via Tongva steps because our spineless ass @uaw_4811 leadership let them! They performatively posed as encampment security and chaotically ordered the human barricade to disperse. Everyone involved must resign — (@) "These spineless cowards sold out their own members to the f***ing cops! We’ve been saying that they’re cops ever since they bowed down to the UC during the strike but never would I have imagined that they would make it so easy for the police to arrest their own members. Wow," the far-left account went on to say. "To be clear, everyone has the right to determine for themselves the level of risk they’re willing to take on at a protest. However, UAW did not adequately notify its members of the risks they were taking on and failed to provide any proper security training to those there. Shame."Anny Viloria Winnett, the unit chair for UAW 4811 at UCLA, responded to the accusations, calling them "laughable.""The online debate, started by someone who was not present that night, is a point of the night when LAPD entered the camp through the Tongva entrance. The post implies LAPD entered through a path that was cleared by UAW marshals, and insinuates our complicity in police action," Winnett posted on X."To dispel the myths: yes, UAW marshals cleared a path in the stairs to keep an exit for those inside the encampment in case the police kettled them..Imma say it again: the cops entered through a side path, that had been cleared the entire night, even before the rally started, where there was a second barrier between the encampment entrance and where the crowd had been standing all night," she continued. As I reported from that night, while LAPD officers were able to get inside the encampment, they were not equipped to clear out the protesters since that was supposed to be the job of CHP. After a tense standoff, the officers eventually withdrew from the area, with fights breaking out as they tried to leave.Whatever the case was, protesters at UCLA have vowed they will seize more campus property and occupy it until the college gives in to their demands.Like Blaze News? In reversal of broader trend, Virginia school board votes to restore schools' Confederate names

In reversal of broader trend, Virginia school board votes to restore schools' Confederate names

There has been a concerted effort in recent years to sever ties with the nation's past. Iconoclasts and revisionists have toppled hundreds of statues, renamed species, melted down busts, removed church windows, dug up graves, changed place names, and gone so far — as the Biden administration did last year — as to remove the Jewish American-designed Reconciliation Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. A school board in Virginia bucked the trend early Friday morning. Two schools in the Shenandoah County Public Schools district were renamed in 2021 following a school board vote the previous year. Stonewall Jackson High School, named after Confederate infantry Gen. Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, became Mountain View High School. Ashby-Lee Elementary School, named after Robert E. Lee, commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, and rebel cavalry commander Turner Ashby, became Honey Run Elementary School. The Confederates' associations with slavery were reportedly a key factor in the decision to make the changes. Axios reported that the Coalition for Better Schools, a local conservative group, continued pushing to change the names back after an unsuccessful attempt in 2022. The group claimed in a April 3 letter to the members of the SCPS board that the group understood "that the decision to rename these schools was made in response to discussions surrounding Confederate symbols" but that "revisiting this decision is essential to honor our community's heritage and respect the wishes of the majority." After an SCPS School Board meeting Thursday night, which ran for roughly six hours and involved extensive commentary from the public, the board voted 5-1 to overturn the 2020 decision. Opponents to the restorations suggested the changes would put a gloss on historical racism. "If you vote to restore the name Stonewall Jackson in 2024, you will be resurrecting an act in 1959 that is forever rooted in mass resistance and Jim Crow segregation," said one resident. Kyle Gutshall, the lone member who voted against the motion, suggested there was no clear justification for the restoration, reported WLOX-TV. "We've talked about the right way, the wrong way to do it," said Guthall. "Things like this really come down to perspective and how you view things." Some supporters suggested that even an imperfect history is worth remembering. "People in the Shenandoah Valley say that only the Confederates are the ones who did nasty things or did nasty things to black people," said Dennis Barlow, the school board chair. "You just stopped reading your history and you're not being realistic. War's hell." The motion that ultimately passed early Friday morning requires that the restoration be implemented using funds privately donated exclusively "and not be borne by the school system or government tax funds. Robert Watson, an assistant professor of history at Hampton University, suggested to USA Today ahead of the vote that the district may be the first in the nation to reverse course on Confederate school name changes. "If it does get traction in the Shenandoah Valley, it probably will get some traction [in] other places," said Watson. A US school board in Shenandoah County, Virginia, voted in favor of restoring previously removed Confederate names to two schools, becoming the first community in the nation to reinstate such names — (@) Like Blaze News? Logitech Litra Glow review: Small streaming light, big impact

Not everyone can fit a full-sized ring light in their home. When I’m not using my large, 18-inch ring light, it gets broken down and stored in our spare bedroom. This means that when I want to use it, I have to go through the entire process of setting it up and positioning it just right. And although this isn’t a huge issue, I’d rather use a smaller light for quick projects or everyday use. Cue Logitech’s Litra Glow, which is square rather than circular, and one of the best lights for streaming for a compact setup as it clips straight onto a screen. Released in early 2022, this dinky light is part of Logitech's growing product lineup for creators – most similar in size to the Elgato Key light panel, but sharing the Logitech G customization of larger lights like the Logitech G Litra Beam LX.  Since purchasing the Litra Glow, its minimal yet effective design has amazed me. With just a few easy and quick steps, anyone can add the Litra Glow to their workspace to be used in up-close videos, Zoom meetings, streaming, and more. To give you a better idea of its capabilities, let me share with you my experience with the Litra Glow and what I’ve learned.
