What did we just capture on camera? Proof of aliens among us? Or….just a lens flare? I’m far from an expert on camera lenses or photography but it seems to me like you typically get a fast moving lens flare only when the camera is moving.  And in this case the camera is very still. But if we have any photogs reading this, drop me a comment below and let me know your expert (or amateur) opinion on what we’re seeing here. Here’s what the NY Post had to say: A mysterious orb-like object appears to zoom over the Hudson River and past Lower Manhattan in eerie footage shot by a local news helicopter. A Fox 5 news report that aired Monday accidentally caught the object or light seemingly gliding in the crystal clear New York sky, making an arching pathway in the direction of the news chopper which was filming from south of Battery Park. The orb appears white in the distance and takes on a blue tint as it seems to get closer to the camera. The speckle appears to outpace every boat on the Hudson and quickly arcs its way past the news chopper’s camera. But some of the world’s foremost ufologists have doubts that the orb is a real-world object. Avi Loeb, a theoretical physician, cosmologist and Harvard professor, believes the apparent orb is a trick of the lights. “This is most likely an optical artifact from the helicopter glass in front of the camera, namely a bright spot from the reflection of sunlight as the camera gradually changes its orientation relative to the sun and the ground,” Loeb tells The Post. “But even if it was a real object, the apparent speed is of an order the speed of sound and not extraordinary,” Loeb concludes. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering radio host and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino to head the Secret Service. Other candidates include Sean Curran, currently leading Trump’s security detail. And then there’s Robert Engel, a former leader of the same team. Not sure if I’d want anyone from the old team that let at least two assassination attempts occur. The host of the Dan Bongino Show political podcast previously served as a Secret Service agent, and was a regular commentator and host on Fox News until last year. Trump is also reportedly considering Sean Curran, the current head of the president-elect’s security detail, and Robert Engel, the former leader of his detail, for the position, which does not require Senate confirmation. The Independent has contacted Bongino and the Trump transition team for comment. Bongino said on his podcast last week he hadn’t had any formal conversations with the Trump administration. In addition to his stints in the Secret Service and at Fox, he has previously served as a New York City police officer, and ran unsuccessfully for Congress three times. In his media appearances, Bongino has frequently defended Trump and echoed his ideas, including criticizing the Mar-a-Lago search by the FBI that uncovered thousands of classified documents, and spreading unfounded claims about the 2020 election. Bongino was permanently banned from YouTube in 2022 for allegedly spreading Covid misinformation. The Secret Service has come under heavy scrutiny during the 2024 election season, after two assassination attempts against Donald Trump, and after a third armed man was stopped outside a Trump rally. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, accusing each individual of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the 13-month Gaza conflict. The decision was met with outrage in Israel, which called it shameful and absurd. Gaza residents expressed hope it would help end the violence and bring those responsible for war crimes to justice. Hamas welcomed the warrants against the Israelis, and a senior official told Reuters it was a first step towards justice. The warrant for Masri lists charges of mass killings during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel that triggered the Gaza war, and also charges of rape and the taking of hostages. Israel has said it killed Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif, in an airstrike in July but Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied this. The prosecution indicated it would continue to gather information with respect to his reported death. Will you allow that to happen or will you step in to prevent an arrest?” CBC News reporter Michelle Song asked. “First of all, as Canada has always said, it’s really important that everyone abide by international law. We need to get back on track towards a two-state solution with a peaceful Israel living alongside a peaceful Palestinian state,” Trudeau said. In Washington, D.C., Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly repeated the prime minister’s position. “We need accountability in our world, and so based on that, Canada will abide by its obligation under the ICC treaty,” Joly said. Netanyahu’s office is describing the arrest warrants as “an antisemitic decision.” Israel’s Ambassador to Canada Iddo Moed, meanwhile, is speaking out against Canada’s stance to abide by the warrants. “We urge the Canadian government to stand firm in its support of Israel’s right to defend itself by rejecting and condemning the ICC’s decision,” Moed said in a statement. The United States, which is not an ICC member, is rejecting the ICC decision.
