The fire was extinguished before crews arrived. As a result of the fire, the building was ventilated for smoke. The Cannon Building, completed in 1908, is the oldest congressional office building in the United States Congress and is an example of the Beaux Arts style of architecture. Currently, the Cannon Renewal Project is underway and involves a renovation of the building’s accessibility and structural issues. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
