Here’s What We Learned From FEMA Chief’s Day Of Congressional Grilling

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell spent over five hours on Tuesday testifying about an agency supervisor’s direction to relief workers to skip homes with Trump signs. But Criswell revealed little about the scandal, instead repeatedly pointing to the agency’s “ongoing investigation.” Lawmakers on two Republican-led committees grilled Criswell about since-fired FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington, who told relief workers in Lake Placid, Florida to “avoid homes advertising Trump.” During questioning from lawmakers, Criswell confirmed that she had asked the Inspector General to conduct its own “independent” investigation.  “We are working with the inspector general to determine whether or not this is broader than this, but the evidence that I have seen so far shows that this was an isolated incident, and it has not gone beyond what this one employee did,” Criswell told the House Oversight Committee.  She said it was “too early to tell” when the investigation would wrap, but insisted she had “directly asked” the Inspector General to investigate both South and North Carolina. Investigations at the state level in Florida and Tennessee, and from various Republican senators and congressmen, are also underway. Multiple lawmakers asked Criswell about Chad Hershey, Washington’s supervisor in Highlands County, Florida, where relief workers skipped at least 20 homes displaying Trump flags or signs. Criswell said that Hershey was part of the ongoing investigation, but didn’t comment further. Hershey previously told The Daily Wire that “proper action” was being taken after he was asked about the Trump home guidance.  Criswell said that there were 11 people under Washington’s supervision who received guidance to skip homes with Trump signs. Images of the chat obtained by The Daily Wire reveal 13 participants, including Washington, suggesting there was one official over Washington in the messages. Criswell said she had not spoken with any of the 13 employees, adding that she has “an entire team that focuses on this investigation and that’s what they’re doing.” She said that anyone who is found to have discriminated against disaster victims for political reasons would be fired.  Criswell said that she became aware of the texts on November 7, the day The Daily Wire first reached out for comment on the messages. She said she directed her staff to investigate and was presented with proof of the texts on November 9. Later that day, she announced Washington had been fired.  A whistleblower report on the guidance was filed with the Department of Homeland Security on October 27. Criswell said the Office of Special Counsel began looking into the guidance on October 28.  She said multiple times throughout her testimony that she was “heartbroken” by the guidance, but said she believed there were no wider cultural problems at FEMA.  “I do not believe that this employee’s actions are indicative of any widespread cultural problems at FEMA,” Criswell said. “FEMA however has taken appropriate action to ensure this matter is fully investigated and I am committed to ensuring that nothing like this ever happens again.”  This directly contradicts Washington’s claims that FEMA has a widespread policy of skipping “politically hostile” homes, including in the Carolinas, and that the agency is trying to make her a scapegoat. “There is nothing in any of our policies, our training, or our information sent out to our field workers to avoid any home for whatever reason, especially not because of a political affiliation,” Criswell said. After the guidance became public, Criswell said she sent an email to all FEMA staff reiterating that they cannot discriminate based on politics, and ordered field workers to go through refresher training.  MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ Criswell also disputed Washington’s claims that FEMA uses “community trends” to skip homes. Washington said that “community trends” in Lake Placid showed people with Trump homes were “hostile,” leading to her guidance.  ”Our policies in nowhere talk about proactively discriminating against areas where they feel that there might be something harassing,” Criswell said, saying that “community trends” language was intended to mean that certain communities may have specific disaster-related needs. This contradicts statements from lawmakers who have said that other individuals have come forward to allege political bias. Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) said 35 of his constituents claim they had been discriminated against by FEMA for political reasons. Likewise, Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) said that a whistleblower had contacted his office telling him that an elderly Georgia couple was instructed by a FEMA supervisor to remove their Trump flags. Other lawmakers, including Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) and Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI), told The Daily Wire on Tuesday that they were not satisfied with Criswell’s answers, and looked forward to seeing the results of full investigation.

Charlamagne Tha God Says New York Should Throw Out Trump Case: ‘He Won The Election’

Radio host Charlamagne tha God said New York officials should just throw out their case against President-elect Donald Trump because he won the election. During his radio show “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday, the host talked about New York Justice Juan Merchan’s upcoming decision on the Trump hush money case, and said the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg should just end the case against the president-elect, after Bragg asked Merchan to postpone it until 2029. “New York City, just throw the whole thing away, alright? Cut it out. Who are we fooling?” the radio host said. “Who are we fooling?” “Nothing’s going to happen to Trump, and nobody wants that retribution that he may deliver hanging over their head,” he added. “Just — he won the election. It is what it is. Cut ties, sever your losses, throw the whole case away. Come on. Who are we fooling, y’all? Who are you fooling, like seriously?” “And if you push it back for four years, that might give him more reason to stay, okay?” the host continued, while laughing. Trump’s legal team has also argued that the case against the president-elect should be dismissed. Bragg’s team of prosecutors has said that some action should be taken after Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in May, as previously reported. Charlamagne on Alvin Bragg pushing to suspend Trump’s case until 2029: “New York City, just throw the whole thing away, alright? Cut it out. (@JasonJournoDC) November 20, 2024 Following the election, the radio host made headlines when he questioned whether Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats lied about the threat Trump was to so-called “democracy.” MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ “I will say this: I’m glad everybody’s having a sense of optimism because the reality is we have no choice, because we’re here now,” Charlamagne said. “Donald J. Trump is going to be the 47th president of the United States of America, like it or not, and we all hope for the best for this country. That’s all we can do.” “But don’t y’all find it strange that now that he’s won, they’re not calling him a threat to democracy?” he added. “They’re not calling him a fascist. I mean, damn, on Monday, they was just calling him that.” “I would think that, you know, if you really believe that, then somebody’s speech would be about how America effed up and how things are about to be really bad,” the host continued. “It just makes you wonder how much of it did they really believe, or how much of it was just politics. That’s all.” Related: Charlamagne Tha God Questions Whether Dems Lied About Trump Threat

Elon Musk And Vivek Ramaswamy Outline The ‘DOGE Plan to Reform Government’

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, whom President-elect Donald Trump has tasked with running the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), laid out their vision in a Wall Street Journal op-ed on Wednesday. Musk and Ramaswamy said that the way the government is currently run is “antidemocratic and antithetical to the Founders’ vision” because it takes the power out of the hands of elected leaders and places it in the hands of bureaucrats. The department was created to “cut the federal government down to size,” they wrote. “The entrenched and ever-growing bureaucracy represents an existential threat to our republic, and politicians have abetted it for too long.” They said that the Trump transition team has hired them to lead a lean team of “small-government crusaders” who will “pursue three major kinds of reform: regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions and cost savings.” They continued: A drastic reduction in federal regulations provides sound industrial logic for mass head-count reductions across the federal bureaucracy. DOGE intends to work with embedded appointees in agencies to identify the minimum number of employees required at an agency for it to perform its constitutionally permissible and statutorily mandated functions. The department will work with legal experts and use “advanced technology” to determine where cuts can be made immediately that they say will “liberate individuals and businesses from illicit regulations never passed by Congress and stimulate the U.S. economy.” MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ They said that DOGE will aim to gut $500 billion in annual federal expenditures every year that are “unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended, from $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.” They also advocated for large scale audits of federal contracts that have gone unexamined, which they argued would yield “significant savings” to taxpayers. Musk and Ramaswamy said that they aim to dissolve the DOGE by July 4, 2026, hoping that they will have fixed many of the country’s spending problems by its 250th birthday.

‘60 Minutes’ pushes lies to derail Trump’s deportation mandate

As the rubble is still being cleared from the presidential election, the corporate media should reflect on its shamelessly partisan coverage and how it once again failed to gauge voter sentiment. Instead, it is launching a massive campaign to sway public opinion against the priorities of Donald Trump’s second administration, specifically his plan to deport the millions of individuals who entered the country illegally over the past four years. This may seem like a Herculean lift, given that Trump made immigration reform a cornerstone of his campaign. Voters rewarded him with a landslide victory in the Electoral College and a decisive popular vote margin. Consistent with those results, a majority of Americans now support mass deportations. Undaunted, anti-borders activists in network and cable news are working tirelessly to derail Trump’s immigration policies, using misleading data, selective omissions, and sentimental appeals. The recent election results show the old media strategy is failing harder than ever. The campaign began even before Election Day. A week prior, CBS’ once-esteemed “60 Minutes” aired a feature examining what Trump’s immigration policy might entail. Correspondent Cecilia Vega accompanied Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on an arrest, spoke with illegal immigrants facing potential deportation, and interviewed Tom Homan, Trump’s pick for border czar and former acting ICE director. Full disclosure: Homan previously served as a senior fellow at the Immigration Reform Law Institute.During her interview with Homan, Vega used selective data to argue against mass deportations while disregarding statistics that strongly support the policy. She claimed, without citing a source, that deporting one million illegal aliens annually would cost $88 billion, framing this as an unreasonable and unacceptable expense. However, Vega omitted a 2023 cost study showing that illegal immigration imposes a total fiscal burden of $150.7 billion on U.S. taxpayers each year. This estimate obviously does not include the additional costs from 2024 or the additional strain on social services intended for U.S. citizens and legal residents. Why continue paying so much for chaos and crime when stable communities could be achieved for less? The report also featured Jason Houser, a former ICE chief of staff during the Biden administration, who portrayed himself as a pragmatic government official in opposition to Homan’s alleged extremism. Houser noted that detaining illegal aliens arrested by ICE costs $150 per night, a figure framed as an unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars.Vega again failed to provide viewers with the complete story. Under the Biden administration’s border policies, the federal government and New York City have been spending an average of $256 per night to house illegal aliens in The Row, a 1,331-room luxury hotel in Manhattan, as well as roughly 140 other properties across the five boroughs. It’s a similar story in Chicago and other large sanctuary cities. A local New York news outlet found that The Row wastes tons of fresh, edible food meant for migrants by throwing it in the trash daily. If fiscal responsibility is the goal, it doesn’t take an economics degree to recognize that ICE detention is the more cost-effective option. As it has done for years when arguing against border security, the media continues to highlight the most sympathetic individuals here illegally, portraying them as victims of a heartless, xenophobic policy. “60 Minutes” followed this familiar script, featuring a crying woman in Baltimore expressing fear that her family members might be deported. The report conveniently ignored the most sympathetic victims of illegal immigration: angel families, whose loved ones were killed by violent criminals, drunk drivers, or others who never should have been in the country. Why didn’t the story include families of victims like Jocelyn Nungaray, Laken Riley, or Rachel Morin? And why no mention of the 325,000 migrant children the Biden administration has lost track of, many of whom face risks of sex trafficking and forced labor? The answer is obvious: “60 Minutes” sought not to provide an objective examination of a complex issue but to deliver propaganda designed to sway public opinion against the Trump administration’s forthcoming enforcement of immigration laws.As with so many other issues, the corporate media aims to convince you to ignore the reality you observe daily and instead accept the ideologically driven, manufactured narrative it presents. The recent election results show the old media strategy is failing harder than ever.

WATCH: Touching moment as wounded vet and family see new home donated by Gary Sinise Foundation

When a wounded Army Ranger received a well-deserved thank you for his service last week, there wasn't a dry eye in the house — literally. Emotional footage shows the moment retired U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua Hargis and his family first step into their brand new, mortgage-free home in Nolensville, Tennessee — a gift from the Gary Sinise Foundation. 'There is not another man like him that I would trust my life with.'"This is insane," says one of two young sons Hargis shares with wife Taylor before breaking down in tears.Hargis, who served as K-9 handler with the 75th Ranger Regiment, describes seeing the house for the first time as "absolutely overwhelming." During Hargis' fourth deployment in Afghanistan, his team was ambushed while conducting routine operations. Four members of his unit were killed along with his K-9 companion, Jany. Hargis lost both his legs while running into danger to assist a fellow Ranger in a minefield.“During a night raid, we were drawn into an area that was littered with buried IED's (improvised explosive devices), and our targets had donned explosive vests that were concealed under their clothing,” Hargis explains. Hargis had learned that his wife was pregnant with their first child just a week before. After his life-changing injuries, his joy at becoming a father turned to apprehension.“I was so intent on getting back to my wife and unborn child, but I was afraid of facing my wife in broken form," Hargis said. That apprehension vanished the moment they were reunited. "My fears and insecurities were washed away when she raced to be by my side as the ambulance doors opened. There was never a moment that she wasn’t by my side fighting for me when I couldn’t.”Hargis' friend, U.S. Army Ranger Spencer Cox, says he wasn't surprised by his fellow Ranger's courage. "That’s the kind of person Joshua is. He is the most selfless individual I have ever had the privilege of working with."His tireless work ethic, spirit, soul, and love for his family are truly remarkable," Cox continued. "There is not another man like him that I would trust my life with. I know that Joshua can manage and succeed in any environment, no matter what is thrown at him."The family's new, custom-built residence will provide a more accessible environment for the Purple Heart recipient than their previous split-level home. Hargis says the added independence the house affords him will make him a better husband and father. "For our family it means so much more, it’s mental, it’s emotional, it’s freedom to be able to interact as a family a little bit better. All of the small details in that house that are going to make not only my day to day easier, but my wife’s day to day easier raising two boys, it’s a huge blessing."The Gary Sinise Foundation teamed up with a number of partners to construct the home, among them Sunbelt Rentals, Owens Corning, Kaishan Compressor USA, and LP Building Solutions for Professionals.“We want them to know we never forget,” says actor and musician Sinise, who started the foundation in 2011 to help veterans, first responders, and their families. “I’m a grateful American and I want them to know it, and I want to be somebody who can rally support from around the country.”You can watch the touching video of the Hargis family seeing their new home for the first time here.Like Blaze News?
