Chip Roy said Congress should vote by the end of the year to repeal the law used by the Biden Department of Justice to throw pro-lifers in prison. “Obviously, we need to move the bill forward, and it would be critical because of what we’re seeing with respect to the persecution of Americans being put in jail,” the Texas Republican told The Daily Signal. Roy introduced a bill on Sept. 19, 2023, to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act of 1994, which “prohibits threats of force, obstruction and property damage intended to interfere with reproductive health care services.” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, introduced a Senate version of the bill the next month. Critics have accused the Biden administration’s DOJ of weaponizing the FACE Act against pro-lifers while failing to charge pro-abortion vandals for the hundreds of attacks on pro-life pregnancy help centers since the leak of the draft Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade in May 2022. Now that Republicans will have control of the House, Senate, and Executive Branch, Roy said Congress should vote to repeal the FACE Act either by the end of the year or early in January. “We’re after the election now, so I feel like we ought to put it out there this year. Go ahead and vote on it,” he said, “so that more Americans can’t get persecuted.” “I think with the trifecta, we should be able to pass it,” the Texas lawmaker continued. “We should bring it forward. But look, Republicans are going to have to get the nerve to actually stand up for both free speech and life.” At least 14 pro-lifers have been convicted under the FACE Act for peacefully protesting outside abortion clinics during the Biden-Harris administration. One of these pro-life activists is Paulette Harlow, a 75-year-old woman with chronic health conditions, who was sentenced to 24 months in prison for attempting to dissuade women from getting abortions. Another is 89-year-old Eva Edl, who survived a World War II-era death camp before escaping to the United States.  “I think we should repeal it so it can’t be abused,” Roy said. Some of the convicted pro-life activists are represented by the Thomas More Society, a Chicago-based conservative public interest law firm. The firm’s general counsel, Andrew Bath, said the law has been “egregiously abused” and “weaponized.” Bath said if Congress repeals the FACE Act, it is likely the Trump DOJ would dismiss all the open cases against pro-lifers. President-elect Donald Trump would have a strong reason to pardon the already convicted pro-lifers. “On its face, you would look at it and say that it protects abortion clinics and pregnancy resource centers and churches equally,” Bath told The Daily Signal. “But it hasn’t been used that way. Jose Antonio Ibarra has been found guilty of murdering Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.   Ibarra, 26, is an illegal alien from Venezuela. He waived his right to a jury, leaving his fate in the hands of the judge.   On Wednesday morning, Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard found Ibarra guilty on all 10 counts.   On the morning of Feb. 22, Riley left her home and went for a run along a wooded trail on the Athens campus of her alma mater, the University of Georgia, but never returned. The body of the Augusta University nursing student was found hours later, and authorities determined she had died from blunt force trauma and suffocation.    “On Feb. 22, Jose Ibarra put on a black hat, a hoodie-style jacket, and some black, kitchen-style disposable gloves and he went hunting for females on the University of Georgia’s campus,” prosecuting attorney Sheila Ross said in her opening statement. “And in his hunt, he encountered 22-year-old Laken Riley on her morning jog. And when Laken Riley refused to be his rape victim, he bashed her skull in with a rock repeatedly.” Ibarra, 26, first crossed into America as an illegal immigrant in 2022, according to officials. Ibarra was arrested last year in New York on charges of child endangerment, but was released before U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement could ask local law enforcement to hold him.   Ross, representing the state of Georgia, said Ibarra’s DNA was found under Riley’s fingernails and one of his fingerprints was found on her iPhone.   This is a breaking news story and will be updated. A dog who broke hearts for looking like he lost all hope of finding a forever home is now mending all those hearts, and his, after he successfully got adopted. A TikTok account, named @savethedogs, posted a video of a dog sitting on a corner on November 03. The caption read, “Rex no longer comes over to greet people because nobody ever chooses him.” The person reveals that the pooch has been in the shelter for over 1000 days and no longer greets people, seemingly losing all hope of finding his forever home. @savethedogs added, “It was heartbreaking to see him..his spirit seems worn down.“ “It’s been so long [that] the hair on his face is starting to turn grey,” the TikTok user added. The TikTok user added that Rex is described to be “unpredictable”. “But when I reached out for the first time, he gently smelled my hand,” she reveals. @savethedogs Rex has been here for three long years ? It was heartbreaking to see him..his spirit seems worn down, as if he’s given up hope of ever having a loving home. Hes been described as unpredictable but when I reached out for the first time, he gently smelled my hand. One of the volunteers mentioned that his face is starting to turn grey; he might be around 8 or 9 years old now. The TikTok user attributed Rex’s adoption to his video going viral on the social media platform. “Thank you to everybody who commented and liked and shared Rex’s post.. its the ONLY way that Rex and his mama were able to meet and fulfill their inevitable fate.“ @savethedogs revealed, “He had been at the rescue for almost 3 years! Not one single application! We posted him on Sunday and by Friday he was wrapped up in a blanket on his new couch with his new mama.“ Rex was Vanderpump Dogs’ longest staying resident. In a video that highlights Rex in December 2023, the animal rescue revealed that they rescued the pooch from a high-kill shelter in January 2022. The animal rescue reveals that Rex has never been great at first impressions because he growls and barks at strangers. “He’s very fearful of people due to past abuse, but he longs for understanding, patience and the opportunity to rebuild his trust,” the rescue explains. Today, Rex’s new mom reveals that the pooch is home, and will spend the next bit of his life decompressing. He now has his own space, and enjoys chilling in his own heated blanket.
