Looking into Your Dog’s Eyes Literally Synchronizes Your Brainwaves

Recent research from scientists in China reveals a remarkable phenomenon: when a dog and its owner gaze at each other, their brains can synchronize, creating a unique “neural connection” previously thought to occur only between members of the same species. Neural communication refers to the synchronization of brain activity between two or more individuals during interaction. In humans, this often happens during conversations or storytelling. Now, groundbreaking research demonstrates that such communication can also occur between species—specifically, between humans and their canine companions. Using noninvasive electroencephalography (EEG), the scientists recorded neural signals in both beagles and humans under various conditions. These included moments when the dogs and humans were isolated from each other, in proximity without making eye contact, and finally, when they engaged directly by looking at each other. The findings were striking: when humans and dogs locked eyes and interacted, their brain signals synchronized. This neural harmony suggests the formation of a unique bond, one that strengthens with familiarity. The more time the dogs and their owners spent together, the stronger their neural synchronization became. This discovery highlights the profound emotional and cognitive connection humans share with dogs. Research already shows that dogs can recognize and respond to human emotions, solidifying their role not only as loyal companions but also as vital members of our social ecosystem. Their ability to form deep bonds with humans likely plays a central role in this neural communication. Additionally, the study explored genetic influences on neural synchronization. Dogs with a mutation in the Shank3 gene—a gene associated with neural connections and attention—were found to have weaker synchronization with their human counterparts compared to unaffected dogs. This suggests that genetic factors may significantly impact the ability to form such bonds. So, when you look into your dog’s eyes, you’re doing more than expressing affection. You’re strengthening your connection on a neural level. The next time your dog gazes at you with trusting eyes, remember: this simple moment is a testament to the deep, interspecies bond shared between humans and their canine companions. Column: TV Stars Mock the Tiny Threat of Trans Women in Sports

Last month, ABC anchor Martha Raddatz was mocked by J.D. Vance when she tried to minimize the threat of gangs in Colorado taking over apartment buildings by force. “The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment complexes,” she said. It’s too bad for you if you lived in one of those buildings. Vance asked “Do you hear yourself?” That’s echoing now on biological males invading women’s sports. On his HBO soapbox Last Week Tonight, British comedian/activist John Oliver expressed disgust that Kamala Harris couldn’t rebut Donald Trump on this. “There are vanishingly few trans girls competing in high schools anywhere,” Oliver claimed. “Even if there were more, trans kids, like all kids, vary in athletic ability and there is no evidence they pose any threat to safety or fairness.”   John Oliver explains how Democrats can respond to the trans issue. All they need to do is tell people there's no evidence that trans girls are at an unfair advantage or pose a threat to safety in athletic competition. pic.twitter.com/ndbpgfVaci — Richard Hanania (@RichardHanania) November 15, 2024 Out came the “no evidence” argument, which is simply overstated. You can easily find evidence, like 17-year-old volleyball player Payton McNabb getting injured in the head and neck and suffering partial paralysis after getting spiked in the face by a man in 2022. But Oliver dismissed her and her side. “It’s very weird for you to be so focused on the subject,” he said as he focused on the subject. MSNBC anchor Jen Psaki echoed Oliver, taking after Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) telling The New York Times he didn’t want his girls to be run over on the field by a male. The backlash among Democrats was intense. “Reflection is good, but if that were actually an issue at thousands of schools across the country it would be worthy of a debate,” she said. “There are just incredibly few examples of transgender girls playing in youth sports, and when we do see these examples, there is no evidence that these kids are a threat to safety or fairness.”   Jen Psaki says Democrats must double down on pushing the transgender agenda on Americans, including allowing men to play against girls in sports She says it's not an issue and that men playing against girls in sports presents "no threat to safety or fairness." pic.twitter.com/iIoujvv1Fm — Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) November 18, 2024 Psaki mocked the red states who passed bans on boys in girls’ sports since they could only find one in Utah and one in South Dakota. She may have a point, since it’s in blue states where this is all the rage, and the blue states wouldn’t dare offend the LGBTQ forces. The social contagion of transgenderism is at odds with the notion that the number is “vanishingly few.’ Oliver and Psaki are mad that this was a losing issue for Democrats. A survey from the University of Chicago found that 65% of Americans said transgender athletes should never or rarely be allowed to compete in sports leagues that don’t match their biological sex. The election seems to have underlined it. “Trump and the Republicans have managed to amplify their bad-faith attacks to the point where people do have concerns, as misguided and misinformed though those concerns may be,” Psaki claimed. On the Left, any challenge to transgender orthodoxy is considered a “bad faith attack.” You’re “misinformed” if you think this issue isn’t insignificant. Dissent equals misinformation. Psaki described it as a fight between “manufactured panic” on the right versus “actual facts” on the left. But this professional Democrat failed to consider the actual fact that biological males simply cannot “become” girls in athletics. They have a pronounced physical advantage. The libertine left creates a “manufactured panic” that laws against transgender crossover into women’s sports is “targeting” people and harming their mental health to the point of suicide. Consider the actual fact that nearly 900 biological females were robbed of medals in sports competing against transgender athletes, according to a United Nations study titled “Violence against women and girls in sports.” Concerns about young women’s fairness and safety cannot be mocked away by comedians and cable TV hosts.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 release date estimate and news

When is the Marvel Rivals Season 1 release date? We're already thinking ahead to the 2025 roadmap for the multiplayer shooter, and if it's anything like its competitors, Overwatch and Valorant, then we can surely expect plenty of additional content and seasonal updates to keep things fresh. The Marvel Rivals release date is not far off, and the multiplayer game starts with Season 0 which will last one month, taking you through December and into the beginning of January. It features half the amount of content we can expect from full season launches and battle pass, but is priced to reflect this. Though details are pretty thin, we do have an idea on what's coming to Season 0 and when to expect Marvel Rivals Season 1. Google Meet’s automatic framing is now available to everyone

Illustration: The Verge Google Meet is making it easier for everyone to position themselves in video calls without having to move the camera or mess around with the webcam’s frame adjustment settings. The automatic framing feature that was launched for Google Workspace accounts in 2022 is now rolling out for all Google Meet users, centering users in the middle of the screen to correct weird camera angles. The toggle is enabled by default, but can be switched off by clicking the three-dot menu before you join a call, selecting “Apply visual effects,” and clicking “Appearance.” It’s similar to Apple’s Center Stage feature, but Google’s version doesn’t track users as they move to keep them in frame — which can help reduce distractions in meetings. Google Gemini AI now remembers things about you just like ChatGPT, but only if you pay

Google on Tuesday rolled out a brand new AI feature for its Gemini products that some users will surely enjoy. Gemini can now store memories about you to offer better responses and assistance, just like ChatGPT does. The feature is called "Saved Info" vs. "Memory" for ChatGPT, but it works similarly. Also, just like OpenAI, Google won't make the memory feature available to Gemini users on the free tier. You'll have to get a Gemini Advanced subscription, which is the equivalent of ChatGPT Plus and costs $20. Unlike OpenAI, Google also offers cloud storage with your paid Advanced membership, and plenty of it. You're subscribing to the most expensive Google One tier, which includes Google Advanced access. Law enforcement has a tool that can break into iPhones running iOS 18

Graykey is a phone unlocking and forensic tool used by law enforcement that can retrieve data from even modern iPhones running iOS 18. Made by the highly secretive company Grayshift and recently acquired by Magnet Forensics, this is the first time a leak has revealed which iPhone models can be unlocked running Apple's latest iOS 18 updates. BGR always recommends its readers update to the latest iOS versions. Apple adds new features and fixes several vulnerabilities in the system. According to documents seen by 404 Media, Graykey can partially unlock most iOS 18 devices, while iPhone 11 models can have their data completely stolen. At this moment, it seems this tool can unlock iPhones running iOS 18 (released on September 16) and iOS 18.0.1 (released on October 3). However, the forensic company has not cracked beta versions of iOS 18.1, its official version, and the upcoming iOS 18.2. Forbes notes that a "partial extraction" can only draw out unencrypted files and some metadata, including file sizes and folder structures, which means the Graykey hack tool can't obtain all data from modern iPhones. Fortunately, it seems most people are protected against this hack tool. In an interview with CNBC last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said iOS 18.1 was being adopted "twice the rate" they had with iOS 17.1. The interest for this subsequent operating system update is due to iOS 18.1 unlocking Apple Intelligence features for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models. Thankfully, the best solution to keep modern iPhones out of risk is updating them constantly, as these hacking tools take a while to find new breaches on Apple's systems. A few months ago, BGR reported that another tool was being used to hack iPhone users. Fortunately, updating the iPhone to the latest iOS release solved most of the issues. Even with AT&T, Lumen, and Verizon's recent hack, the iPhone has proven it doesn't offer backdoors. China has been accused of targeting iPhones of presidential campaign offices. Lastly, we all know about the Pegasus hacking tool, which the FBI has used despite a White House ban. Follow BGR for the latest details on discovered hacking tools and how to protect your data.
