Google Photos Partner Sharing is less of a snitch now

Illustration: The Verge Google has placed some new limitations on a Google Photos feature that allows users to automatically share images and videos in their library with a partner. The update to Partner Sharing now means that users can only share photos or videos that were taken using their device’s default camera app, meaning partners are unable to see screenshots or images shared on services like WhatsApp. Some Reddit users who utilize Partner Sharing initially reported the issue as a bug, but several comments made by a presumed Google employee say the change was intentionally made “to better align with most users’ expectations.” This is backed up by an updated Partner Sharing help article that says “photos from other apps on Android aren’t shared with your... Bitfinex hacker receives five-year sentence for record-breaking crypto heist

Nick Barclay / The Verge The hacker behind one of the biggest-ever cryptocurrency heists will serve five years in prison for conspiring with his wife to launder billions in stolen Bitcoin. Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein was sentenced in Washington federal court Thursday after he admitted to hacking the Bitfinex crypto exchange in 2016 and stealing almost 120,000 Bitcoin tokens. Lichtenstein and his wife Heather Morgan were arrested in 2022, and in August last year both pled guilty to conspiring to commit money laundering. The stolen cryptocurrency, worth around $71 million at the time of the theft, had soared in value to approximately $4.5 billion by the time Lichtenstein and Morgan were arrested. Valued at today’s prices, the stolen funds would be worth an even more... Continue reading…

“The First War Between Women”: Olympias and Adea Eurydice

The earth turned on its axis the day Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) died. Notorious for his unrestrained aggressivity and hard drinking, it should have come as no surprise to the Greeks that Alexander the Great would not live to see old age. Yet when the warrior king died at the age of thirty-two, it left a power vacuum the likes of which the ancient world had never seen, resulting in widespread unrest and turmoil throughout Alexander’s vast empire. His son, Alexander IV, by Roxane, his first wife, was born posthumously; thus, at the time of Alexander’s death, his gender was unknown, and Alexander’s half-brother—Arrihidaeus—was cognitively impaired, therefore permanently considered a minor and his next closest male heir. ‘Return Of The King’ Gives Inside Look At Elvis Presley’s Massive 1968 Comeback Special

Return of the King: The Fall and Rise of Elvis Presley recently debuted on Netflix, giving viewers the story behind Elvis Presley‘s comeback special of 1968 and how pivotal it was to his career. The 90-minute documentary by Jason Hehir featured behind-the-scenes footage from the NBC show and insider interviews. The film goes beyond the surface thanks to obtained personal files of Elvis and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and an extensive chat with the legend’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley. Priscilla revealed that Elvis’ comeback show was her first time seeing him perform live. New Elvis Presley documentary covers his huge comeback Elvis Presley/Everett The show dubbed “Singer Elvis Presents” was filmed at NBC Studios in Burbank, California, and that was Elvis’ first time performing after seven years away. He had spent most of the ’60s making movies like Paradise, Hawaiian Style, and Girl Happy while the Beatles and Rolling Stones took over the music space. The special was a big deal to Elvis; it determined the stability of his career when it came to younger audiences. He lost weight and rehearsed way ahead of the show with guitarist Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana. Priscilla recalled how nervous he was at the thought of ruining his legacy should the show flop. Elvis Presley/Everett Elvis Presley’s comeback was a success Elvis’ risk paid off with the ’68 special as it revitalized his fading career. The show aired months after filming in December 1968, and by January, Elvis was back in the studio churning out new music. He toured the US again in 1970, selling out every show across nine cities. Elvis Presley/Everett More than five decades later, the NBC special is still a hot topic in music history. Return of the King features interviews with superfans Conan O’Brien, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Corgan, Robbie Robertson, and Baz Luhrmann, who created the Elvis biopic of 2022.
