Adopted man does DNA test and finds biological mom in a very familiar place

At the age of 35, Vamarr Hunter, now 50, learned that he was put up for adoption as a newborn. Two years ago, he saw a television show about genealogy and did a DNA test to try and find his biological family. The genealogist quickly determined that Lenore Lindsey, 67, owner of “Give Me Some Sugah” Bakery in South Shore in Chicago, was Hunter’s mother, so she gave her Hunter’s number. Lindsey had given him up for adoption when she was 17 years old and she was hesitant about contacting him. “I was on the phone talking to my friend when a call came through from the bakery. I was like, ‘Why is Give Me Some Sugah’ calling me?’” Hunter told the Washington Post about when he got the call from Lindsey in the spring of 2022.The incredible thing was that Hunter lived near the bakery and visited it weekly. “We had an immediate connection. All the pieces had fallen into place,” Lindsey said. - YouTube www.youtube.com The life-changing news came after a recent breast cancer surgery and Lindsey was preparing to undergo chemotherapy. Hunter immediately started calling her “mother” or “ma” and went with her to chemotherapy appointments. While Lindsey recovered, Hunter stepped in, managing the bakery. After Lindsey suffered a stroke, he quit his job to run it full-time.After retiring from her career as an accountant in 2008, Lindsey opened “Give Me Some Sugah” to provide a positive place for people in the community to relax and enjoy sweet treats. “I just wanted to have a nice little neighborhood place where people didn’t have to be served through bulletproof glass, and they could be treated like people,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times. Adopted at birth, Vamarr Hunter never expected his birth mother to be the baker behind his favorite treats. https://t.co/So9YmBrBxc— Chicago Tribune (@chicagotribune) November 14, 2024 By reconnecting with his mother, Hunter met a host of new relatives, and Lindsey became a grandmother to Hunter's 4 kids.Lindsey has a daughter named Rachel, 40, who believes Hunter fits perfectly into the family. “He talks like he was raised in the house with us,” Lindsey said, according to the New York Post. “We’re both the same.”The reconnection between mother and child must have brought a lot of closure to Lindsey, who never saw his face when he was born out of fear she’d become too attached. But her mother got a good look at him, saying that he was “beautiful.” Hunter doesn’t have any regrets about how things went in the past. He’s just happy to be part of a family where he feels he belongs. “You can't make up for time and days gone by. What you can do is properly utilize the time that you have,” he said, according to People. Having a new son has been an unexpected blessing in Lindsey’s golden years. “It's the most joyful story and time in my life," Lindsey said. “In my senior years, all of this has come together.”Lindsey is proud of the man Hunter has become. “He really is such a good soul. He has just no animosity [about being given up for adoption]. I’m sure he’s adding years to my life because I just got this sense of peace. It’s like your life came full circle,” said Lindsey.

Toddler's unbridled joy at seeing Target Christmas decor is pure holiday magic

It seems like even the most bah humbugiest of us are in the mood to be injected with a bit of Christmas cheer this year. And this video of a mom whisking her precious toddler through a holiday decor-filled Target can do just that. Victoria Paskar had previously taken her son Ellis to Target when he was a newborn and unable to really understand or appreciate the festive hoopla happening all around him. But this time, Ellis is a toddler. And in full toddler fashion, he is in complete and utter awe—and able to express it all in real time. Paskar caught the whole adorable moment on camera as Ellis, from his shopping cart seat, kept shouting “Oh, wow! Wow!” in total amazement of the countless lit-up trees and aisle lines with elaborate decorations and colorful toys. It’s just so magical and pure in every way. Truly the only thing that would have made it better would be “What’s This?” from Nightmare Before Christmas playing in the background. Watch: @vita.paskar This is when things start to get exciting ? when they begin to understand! #fyp #christmas #target #toddler ♬ Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee “Pov: your child’s second Christmas isn’t as a newborn anymore, but as a toddler,” Paskar wrote for her video’s caption, perfectly encapsulating that wonderful shift that happens when kids are old enough to take in the world around them, but young enough for even the littlest things to seem miraculous and exciting. As that sense of wonder tends to begin waning around the age of six, it’s a fleeting moment worth cherishing. Other parents who watched the video certainly seemed to think so. “Experiencing Christmas through your children's eyes is the BEST gift as parent can get!” one person wrote. Another said, “My fave toddler phase is the ‘wow’ phase. They say ‘wow at everything!!” Still another shared, “that’s my toddler too and I’m soaking it all up.” As the holiday season approaches, let this heartwarming story serve as a reminder to try to see the world through a child’s eyes—inviting back in our own sense of wonder that turns even the littlest things into pure magic. It is, after all, part of what makes Christmas so special in the first place.

Dissatisfied Democrats Voice Frustrations With Party Line on Transgender Issues

Three weeks prior to the election, the Wall Street Journal editorial board called transgender sports a “sleeper issue” for voters, highlighting the mismatch between the Democratic party line and voter opinion.  “Media conformity is one reason the transgender sports issue is catching Democrats by surprise,” the board warned. “The press portrays any dissent on the issue as out of political bounds and … dismisses as benighted bias what millions of Americans view as common sense.”  Now, a month after the editorial and a week after the election, the sleeper issue has become a wake-up call for Left and Right alike.  Ads Exposing Kamala’s Extremism Shifted Momentum to Trump  After side-stepping growing LGBTQ culture war issues in 2016 and 2020, President-elect Donald Trump joined the fray this election cycle. This time, his platform included promises to “keep men out of women’s sports” and keep gender ideology out of the classroom.” The grassroots and activist-led movement finally went mainstream.  Trump embraced the issues and went on the offense. His campaign spent more than $65 million on ads attacking Kamala Harris for her support of taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners — a position she articulated in response to an ACLU questionnaire during her short-lived audition for the Democratic presidential nominee in 2019. Each ad ended with a version of the refrain, “Kamala Harris is for they/them. President Trump is for you.”  The ad rapidly gained momentum, with a Harris super PAC reporting that one 30-second version of the spot shifted the race in Trump’s favor by 2.7 points after viewers watched the ad. While the Harris campaign was courting women with pro-abortion messaging, the Trump campaign was trying to reach suburban women by keeping women’s sports in the spotlight. (RELATED: Meta’s Oversight Board Threatens Women’s Right to Sex-Based Protections) The strategy was simple and effective: show just how out-of-step radical Democrats are with the average voter.  Post-Election Postmortems  Trump’s definitive victory on Election Day left some Democrats feeling betrayed by their party’s hardline embrace of pro-LGBTQ politics. When discussing the election results, MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski identified transgender issues as a key progressive position that may have ostracized voters.  Polling shows that nearly 70 percent of Americans believe that transgender-identifying athletes should “only be allowed to compete on sports teams that correspond with the sex they were assigned at birth.”  In the aftermath of a significant electoral defeat, some Democrat politicians are hoping for a realignment with voter values. Democrat Seth Moulton, a representative from Massachusetts, made headlines last week for expressing frustration with his party’s out-of-touch stance:  Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face … I have two little girls; I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that. Fellow Democrat Tom Suozzi made similar comments, remarking, “I don’t want to discriminate against anybody, but I don’t think biological boys should be playing in girls’ sports.” (RELATED: Men in Women’s Sports Is Becoming a Major Political Issue) While Republicans welcome these admissions, Democrats find themselves between a rock and a hard place. Admitting defeat on the issue of transgender athletes pits Democrats like Moulton and Suozzi against the far-left progressive base and betrays the party’s ideological project. On the other hand, standing by “trans rights” could exacerbate the party’s failure to win over moderate voters in future elections.  But some progressives are searching for a middle ground between the binary. New York Times columnist Pamela Paul articulated this desire in her recent article, “On Transgender Issues, Voters Want Common Sense.”  Democrats Aren’t All-In on Transgender Issues Despite her progressive persuasions, Paul has written several columns for the New York Times that challenge elite opinion about so-called “gender affirming care.” She writes openly about the contradictions between evolving European standards of care for transgender-identifying patients and America’s politicized insistence on pushing hormones and irreversible surgeries.  Reflecting on the results of last week’s election, Paul believes that Democrats should not “try to push Americans in a direction they clearly oppose.” Rather, “on transgender issues specifically, one way to make clear that Democrats are listening to their constituencies would be to accept a broader range of perspectives.”  Paul calls upon Democrats and other supporters of “transgender rights” to “embrace a common-sense approach from their government, their schools, their mental health care workers and their doctors.”  “As those of us who opposed Trump lick our wounds and take stock, it’s worth considering why these ads and rally cries [about transgender athletes] resonated,” she writes. “It is not because most Americans are bigots or haters or anti-L.G.B.T.Q. people. But many voters, including liberals and Democrats, disagree with positions Harris and the Democratic Party have taken on transgender issues.” She might be reading the electorate correctly, but Paul doesn’t understand the party she’s addressing. Anyone who doesn’t wholeheartedly embrace the progressive stance on transgenderism is, by their definition, a bigot and a hater — just look at J.K. Rowling.  Ironically, the movement working to destroy binaries is caught in an inevitable binary. Either “trans women” are real women — and therefore deserve all the rights, protection, and access afforded to biological females — or they’re not, and vice versa. The Left’s progressive vanguard would say the former, and Paul doesn’t seem willing to articulate the latter.  Nevertheless, Paul’s skepticism of reigning liberal opinion combined with the frustrations of politicians like Moulton and Suozzi signal an emerging struggle on the left. The Israel-Gaza war revealed the cracks in the progressive coalition, and the transgender sports issue could be another flash point for intra-party conflict as Democrats set their sights on 2026 and beyond. Victims Strip the Mask From the Gender Ideology Cult

Chloe laughed and chatted cheerfully as she skimmed the menus in front of us. We were seated next to each other that night after speaking on a panel about the dangers that the gender ideology movement poses to children.  She is articulate and earnest, and her serious expression when speaking publicly makes it easy to forget just how young she still is. But I was quickly awakened to that reality as she paused over the virgin cocktails on the menu, asking me if I thought one looked appetizing.  Subscribe to The American Spectator to receive our fall 2024 print magazine, which includes this article and others like it.   When the mocktail — a fun pink concoction in an aesthetic glass — came, she was delighted. I realized with a pang that she isn’t old enough to legally order herself a drink, yet she was old enough to permanently alter her body.  Chloe is one of several young women I focused on when writing Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult (Regnery, May 2024). We spent many, many hours going over the particulars of her early adolescence: who she was spending time with, what social media she was consuming, what her family was like, whether her peers at school were interested in transgender issues, and more.  I learned from her what I have heard from all the detransitioners who have dared to speak up. They were duped into attempting the impossible: changing from a woman to a man, or a man to a woman. They were love-bombed and embraced by the activist transgender community — and then cast aside when they tried to question their transitions.  This article is taken from The American Spectator’s fall 2024 print magazine. Subscribe to receive the entire magazine. Chloe, Luka Hein, Prisha Mosley, Helena Kerschner, and Abel Garcia: all of these individuals were struggling with mental health issues when they first questioned their gender. They needed compassionate care, patience, and truth. But doctors, therapists, and counselors promised them that their mental health issues would resolve if they began so-called “gender-affirming care” practices: puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries.  Some of these individuals needed parental consent since they, like Chloe, were minors at the time. I often encounter the notion that children who undergo attempted gender transitions have parents pushing them down this path for evil and narcissistic reasons. This certainly happens, and I have reported on it before. But the detransitioners with whom I spoke largely encountered gender ideology on social media, or through peers and resources at school. Their parents had absolutely no idea how to handle the situation.  It is a conundrum that no parent should have to face: your beautiful little girl comes to you and tells you not only that she is a boy, but also that her school therapist has affirmed her identity, her transgender friends online believe she is heroic and brave, and she is confident her mental health issues will evaporate if she begins “gender-affirming care.”  Many parents are not equipped, either politically or spiritually, to handle such a revelation. Helena Kerschner’s mother panicked and completely shut down, telling her daughter that she was not a boy and that the discussion was over, leaving Helena to stew in her own devastation and emote online to transgender friends and activists. These activists only encouraged her, of course, and pushed her further away from her mother.  Chloe Cole’s parents, like many others, panicked and looked for professional guidance from doctors and therapists. According to Cole’s lawsuit, those medical professionals asked them the now-infamous question “Would you rather have a dead daughter, or a living son?” No parent wants a dead daughter.  The “medical professionals” put Chloe on puberty blockers and then on testosterone injections. Her body changed dramatically as the hormones set in, affecting her bone density, muscle growth, fat redistribution, hair loss, hair growth, sexual urges, and more. The hormones cause many girls to lose their ability to sing, scream, and cry. They also cause emotional discomfort, including intense rage attacks. Finally, she underwent a double mastectomy, wherein Dr. Hop Nguyen Le removed both her breasts, according to her lawsuit. Per her lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente, Chloe had never considered whether she wanted to have children, let alone nurse them. She was never told that the procedures might inhibit her from ever being able to conceive or carry her own child. In fact, her legal team argues, the doctors pushing her down this path had represented that Chloe’s suicide risk would increase unless she obtained a gender transition. Their claims were based on the activist lie that “gender-affirming care” will prevent a child from committing suicide. (Research has found, contrary to those activists’ claims, that gender-affirming care actually increases the likelihood that youth will attempt suicide.) “[T]his emotionally supercharged suicide threat and this false decision-making dichotomy backed Chloe and her parents into a corner,” her lawyers said in her lawsuit. “They felt they had no option but to continue moving forward with transition and surgery.” There came a point when Chloe realized that her surgery and hormonal interventions had not, in fact, lessened her mental health issues. She did not feel better — she had not achieved the perfect transition that she had desired. Her lawyers alleged that the testosterone cut several inches off of her potential adult height; potentially stunted her neurological development; resulted in severe atrophy of her reproductive organs; and left her with more facial hair, wider shoulders, an Adam’s apple, a bigger ribcage, and underdeveloped hips. Her “top surgery” still causes her huge amounts of pain and distress, and she suffers ongoing complications with her mastectomy grafts. And yet she is incredibly cheerful. She travels the country (and the world) speaking to lawmakers, activists, and concerned citizens young and old about what she has endured. She wants young men and women who are pondering the gender transition route to pause, breathe, and give themselves the gift of adolescence. She is joined by a growing cohort of other detransitioners, including Helena, Luka, Prisha, and Abel, men and women who are brave enough to speak out about their personal tragedy and trauma — the lies they were told, the manipulation they experienced, and what it has cost them.  Her voice, and the voices of the other detransitioners, are playing a radical role in the ongoing fight against gender ideology. They didn’t have anyone to warn them. Now, they are the voice of caution.  It is hard to stress how important this is, particularly given the way in which transgender activists have harnessed social media to push transition and hide any kind of dissent. Chloe’s story can’t be ignored. It is too honest, too earnest. It is her lived truth. Her voice, and the voices of the other detransitioners, are playing a radical role in the ongoing fight against gender ideology. And the tide is turning. In Europe, at least five countries are taking steps to protect children from gender transitions following the release of the monumental Cass Report, which found that “for most young people, a medical pathway will not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress.”  Already, across the United States, we have seen legislators bring forward 642 bills aimed at fighting sexual or ideological content in classrooms, protecting children from gender transition procedures, and keeping boys out of women’s spaces, including locker rooms, bathrooms, and prisons. The majority of Americans do not support gender treatments for children. And the Biden–Harris administration, which has put out messaging in the past claiming that “early” transgender procedures are “crucial” to the health of transgender-identifying youth, appears cognizant of this disapproval.  In early July, the White House flip-flopped on the topic, first telling news outlets that the Biden–Harris administration did not support transgender surgeries for children, before reaffirming support for irreversible procedures for minors after “intense pressure” from LGBTQ groups. The flip-flopping followed reports that the top transgender-identifying leader in the Department of Health and Human Services, Rachel Levine, successfully pressured the World Professional Association for Transgender Health to remove age requirements for minors to get irreversible transgender procedures.  The Biden–Harris Department of Justice has now turned its sights on whistleblowers from Texas Children’s Hospital: Dr. Eithan Haim and nurse Vanessa Sivadge. After the state told Texas Children’s to stop performing gender transition procedures, these two brave individuals exposed an alleged secret transgender medicine program that continued to take place at the hospital. They have since both received visits from FBI agents, and, in June, the Department of Justice charged Haim with “obtaining protected individual health information for patients that were not under his care and without authorization.” If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 maximum possible fine. Haim and Sivadge have put their livelihoods, reputations, and family lives on the line to shine a light on the grisly realities of gender transitions for children. They deserve to be heard. Chloe, Luka, Prisha, Helena, Abel, and all of the detransitioners daring to share their stories in the face of so much hate also deserve to be heard. The gender ideology movement is one based on euphemism and deception. These true stories will set us free. Mary Margaret Olohan is a senior reporter at the Daily Wire and the author of Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult.
