New Mexico may be small in terms of population‚ but we are the second largest producer of oil. We punch well above our weight when it comes to American energy and that’s becoming a problem for President Joe Biden. New polling data show Biden’s support in our state plummeting. With an approval rating of just 41% and a disapproval rating of 57%‚ Biden finds himself 16 points underwater. This decline is particularly worrying for the President‚ given that he won New Mexico by a comfortable 10-point margin during the 2020 election. One of the significant concerns for Biden is the erosion of his support among Hispanics. While a 2022 poll indicated a 53% approval rating among the Hispanic community‚ that number has dropped dramatically to a mere 36% today. This marks a significant 17-point dip in less than two years. Keep in mind‚ Hispanics make up more of the population in New Mexico than in any other state. We are a minority-majority state. If they’re abandoning Biden here‚ they’re likely doing so in other states too. The top issues of concern in New Mexico revolve around the economy‚ crime‚ illegal immigration‚ and the cost of living. Unfortunately for Biden‚ these are precisely the areas where he is failing to resonate with voters. A particularly contentious issue is Biden’s complete embrace of the green agenda. Having worked in the natural gas industry for 30 years‚ this is personal for me. A staggering 54% of New Mexicans believe the oil and natural gas industry is the most crucial sector for the state’s economy‚ surpassing all other industries combined. Despite New Mexico being the nation’s second-largest oil producer‚ Biden often attacks this vital industry. Recently‚ his administration canceled all exports of liquefied natural gas‚ a devastating blow for our foreign buyers‚ our allies in Europe. Adding insult to injury‚ the recent actions of President Joe Biden and New Mexico’s Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham regarding the imposition of regulations on natural gas production in our state are concerning to say the least. Despite New Mexico’s position as a national energy leader‚ these onerous rules seem to be aimed at hindering rather than promoting the industry that supports our state. It is particularly disheartening to note that these regulations were announced by the Biden administration and Governor Grisham while they attended an elitist United Nations climate conference in Dubai. This exclusive gathering‚ held thousands of miles away from our state‚ hardly seems like an appropriate venue for discussing and implementing policies that will directly impact our energy industry. Furthermore‚ the practical result of these regulations is effectively a tax on natural gas production. This additional financial burden on the industry can only serve to stifle growth and hinder job creation in our state. It is puzzling why our leaders would choose to impose such fees when New Mexico plays such a crucial role in meeting the nation’s energy needs. While Governor Grisham was on Biden’s shortlist for vice president and is pushing for EV mandates‚ it is evident that New Mexicans oppose such measures. A staggering 59% of voters oppose EV mandates‚ with 72% believing they will lead to increased costs. This opposition to EVs further compounds Biden’s difficulties in securing support from the citizens of New Mexico. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sparked calls for her removal from Congress over the weekend after she made remarks at an event in Minnesota in which she told a group of Somalis that she is advocating for Somalia — where she was born and raised during her early years — while serving in the U.S. Congress. A three-minute video clip of Omar went viral on Sunday that appears to have been translated by alleged officials from Somaliland‚ a breakaway region in Somalia that has claimed its independence from Somalia for decades but is not recognized by any other countries as being a sovereign state. Omar made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at an event at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis celebrating the recent re-election of Said Abdullahi Deni as the President of the Puntland State of Somalia. Omar’s remarks come as there have been recent tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia over Somaliland. Ethiopia reportedly came to an agreement with Somaliland that would recognize Somaliland as a country independent from Somalia in exchange for Ethiopia‚ which is a landlocked country‚ gaining access to 12 miles of the coastline in the region through a lease agreement. Somalia flatly rejected the agreement‚ saying in a statement: “There is no space for mediation unless Ethiopia retracts its illegal [memorandum of understanding] and reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.” According to a professional translation of Omar’s remarks acquired by The Daily Wire from an international translation service‚ Omar referenced the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland: “A few days ago‚ we heard the news about some people claiming to be Somalis getting into an agreement with Ethiopia.” Omar continued: I got calls from a lot of people saying‚ “Ilhan‚ you need to talk to the U.S. government; what is the government of the U.S. doing?'”My answer to their question was that the U.S. government will do what we tell them to do about it. Omar clearly signaled that she is working in Congress to protect Somalia and make sure that “Somalia will never be in danger‚” remarks that were included in the viral translation and verified by INGCO International‚ the service The Daily Wire contracted to perform the translation. An agency of Nashville‚ Tennessee’s city government created to promote the arts has set out to allocate taxpayer-funded grants on the basis of race‚ hoping to leverage their funding to achieve “anti-racist outcomes.” The Metro Nashville Arts Commission’s director‚ Daniel Singh‚ outlined his goal to encourage “anti-racist outcomes” through the use of arts grants‚ hoping to return “land‚ money and narrative resources to Indigenous‚ African and Asian peoples within the ‘cultural community‚’” an investigation from The Pamphleteer‚ a local Nashville media outlet‚ revealed. Marxism‚ and Critical Race Theory” to create an alternative to the “white racial frame.” While the commission asks grant applicants whether or not their organization qualifies as “BIPOC-led‚” Metro Legal Director Wally Dietz has stated that the commission asks “for demographic purposes‚ not for the purpose of prioritizing certain applicants” when asked if Metro Arts could be hit with Title VI lawsuits. The revelations come as millions of dollars worth of operating grants from the Commission have not been dispersed to grantees‚ with Singh unwilling to explain why the grants remain unpaid. Last month‚ Metro Nashville stated that it would audit the Arts Commission.

Harvard University’s chief diversity officer plagiarized large portions of her academic work‚ a complaint filed Monday with the Ivy League school alleges. The allegations echo those against Claudine Gay‚ who stepped down as Harvard’s president earlier this month after a cascade of plagiarism allegations. Sherri Ann Charleston‚ Harvard’s first ever chief diversity and inclusion officer‚ plagiarized parts of every publication she wrote‚ at least 40 times total‚ claims the anonymous complaint filed with the university‚ which was first reported by The Washington Free Beacon. She quoted or paraphrased nearly a dozen other academics without proper attribution in her 2009 dissertation submitted to the University of Michigan‚ the complaint says. Also‚ Charleston’s only peer-reviewed journal article‚ written in 2014 with her husband‚ lifted parts from a 2012 study her husband published‚ presenting it as new research‚ according to the complaint. Her husband‚ LaVar Charleston is the deputy vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Charleston herself was previously assistant vice provost for diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion and chief affirmative action officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the 2014 article‚ which was published in the Journal of Negro Education‚ even interviews with black computer science students from the 2012 study showed up word for word. The 2014 article also listed the same methods‚ findings‚ and descriptions of survey subjects as the older study‚ according to the Beacon’s analysis. “The 2014 paper appears to be entirely counterfeit‚” Peter Wood‚ the head of the National Association of Scholars‚ told the Beacon. “This is research fraud pure and simple‚” Wood said. One significant problem is the fact that the 2014 publication not only appeared to copy parts of the 2012 study‚ it also added two new authors — Sherri Ann Charleston and Jerlando Jackson‚ who had nothing to do with the original study. As chief diversity officer‚ Charleston served on the presidential search committee that ultimately named Claudine Gay as president. Gay was accused last year of dozens of instances of plagiarism in her published works. Amid mounting criticism and pressure to step down‚ she ultimately resigned earlier this month. The controversy around Gay’s academic writings comes on the heels of her highly criticized congressional testimony on Harvard’s response to anti-Semitism on campus. Harvard is currently facing a congressional probe on how it handled anti-Semitism on campus as well as the school’s response to the plagiarism allegations against Gay. However‚ Gay still collects a $900‚000 annual salary as a tenured faculty member at Harvard.

When it comes to the 2024 election‚ there are a couple of points to be made — one for Republicans and one for Democrats.  Let’s start with the point for Democrats: Celebrities are not going to save you. I know the Democrats seem to believe that leveraging celebrity in favor of their best political candidates magically raises them to victory. They’re thinking back to a time when Marilyn Monroe was singing “Happy Birthday‚ Mr. President” to JFK. They’re thinking back to a time during the 1990s when Bill Clinton was playing saxophone on late night TV. They’re thinking back to a time when celebrity mattered much more than it does right now. They’ve tried this before‚ trying to drag a lackluster candidate over the finish line with celebrity. It doesn’t tend to work. But desperate candidates have to take desperate measures‚ which is why the New York Times is reporting on this: President Biden is moving quickly to pump energy into his re-election bid‚ kicking off what is likely to be an ugly‚ dispiriting and historically long slog to November between two unpopular nominees.  After months of languid buildup in which he held only a single public campaign event‚ Mr. Biden has thrown a series of rallies across battleground states‚ warning that democracy itself is at stake in 2024.  He sent two of his most trusted White House operatives to take the helm of his reelection campaign in Wilmington‚ Del.‚ after Mr. Trump seized control of the Republican primary race more rapidly than Mr. Biden’s advisers had initially expected. And other Biden aides are drafting wish lists of potential surrogates‚ including elected officials‚ social media influencers and the endorsement of their wildest dreams: the global superstar Taylor Swift. Yes. They are resorting to the Swifties this early.  This is not a good sign for Biden’s campaign — targeting Taylor Swift‚ as if her endorsement will change everything. Swift endorsed Biden for president in 2020‚ but it didn’t really move the needle much because she’s just a very famous pop star. And endorsements from very famous pop stars do not move the needle all that much‚ thank God. WATCH: The Ben Shapiro Show That said‚ some polls suggest that actually a fifth of voters are likely to back the candidate endorsed by Swift. A Newsweek poll found that 18% of voters say they are more likely or significantly more likely to vote for a candidate endorsed by Taylor Swift. This was most visible with voters under the age of 35.  So I have a mild proposal. A moderate proposal. If you base your vote on whom Taylor Swift endorses‚ you should not be allowed to vote in the United States. If you base your vote on the thoughts of celebrities who spend two seconds engaging with politics‚ but you really like their songs‚ you should not be voting. If you are voting Republican based on the endorsement of Kanye West or if you are voting Democrat based on the endorsement of Taylor Swift‚ you should not be voting. That is not how politics is supposed to work. It is also true that 17% said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate backed by Swift. So 18% said more likely‚ and 17% said less likely.  How about this? How about we don’t care? How about no one cares what Taylor Swift has to say on politics because she is a pop star who makes songs and is then featured in shot after shot by the NFL. Here’s the key point: Pop cultural relevance does matter‚ but only when the person with the pop cultural relevance is the politician himself. It is not transferable credit. Barack Obama did not win repeatedly because he had celebrity endorsements. He won because he was the celebrity. Donald Trump won in 2016 because he was a celebrity. Hillary Clinton tried to use celebrity endorsements in 2016. At the DNC‚ she had a bunch of celebrities like Elizabeth Banks and Mandy Moore singing “Fight Song.” She lost. As for the point for Republicans‚ not everything is a conspiracy. The Right has been falling for this line for years‚ that every conspiracy theory now must be treated as a real possibility. One problem with conspiracy theories is that they are almost always wrong. Sometimes they’re right‚ but most of the time‚ they are wrong because they require incredible levels of dedication and competence. Every time someone says something about the moon landing being faked‚ you have to think to yourself: How many thousands of people would have to be in on it and competently do their part in order to make that happen? If you believe that a conspiracy is in control of all you see and hear‚ it is enervating. It makes you less likely to get active. It makes you more likely to believe nothing you do is going to end with the result you seek. There is no connection between your action and the result because there’s an intervening conspiracy to stop that thing from happening. This is particularly true in politics. It’s the reason I still do not like the whole “Donald Trump had the election actively stolen from him by voter fraud in 2020.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP This is bad‚ not just because it’s not true‚ but there’s also not enough evidence to demonstrate it. Trump has never shown enough evidence to demonstrate that the election was rigged. If you mean that all the rules were changed in 2020 and that there were an unprecedented number of voters in that election cycle‚ virtually all of whom were marginal voters who had very little interest in voting in the first place and who then sent their ballot in by mail months in advance of the election in violation of the way that law is normally supposed to work‚ I totally agree with that. If you want to argue that the media rigged the election by ignoring all of the relevant issues in 2020 in favor of a bunch of garbage and then actually hid stories about Biden in the run-up to the election‚ I totally agree. If you want to argue that social media was actively stumping on behalf of Biden and acting at the behest of actors in the Deep State to stymie stories? I agree with that too. But that is not the same thing as the conspiracy theory that there was a well-organized voter fraud effort that deprived Trump of his reelection. The reason that’s bad is because if that’s true‚ why bother voting? And that‚ in fact‚ is how people reacted. If you recall all the way back to early 2021‚ Trump told people there was a voter fraud effort that deprived him of his reelection in Georgia. So people didn’t turn out for the run-off election‚ and now we have two Democratic senators in Georgia‚ a heavily red state. If Trump is the nominee‚ then he will likely win Georgia this time around. What happened? Did all the voter fraud just disappear? The problem with conspiracy theories is that they cause you to believe all the factors out there that could lead to your success are actually beyond your control. And that leads to losing.

A deep-sea expedition group says that it has discovered what appears to be Amelia Earhart’s plane‚ which went missing after the famed pilot crashed somewhere in the South Pacific during her flight around the world. Deep Sea Vision‚ a marine-robotics company‚ announced on Sunday that it has located what it believes to be Earhart’s Lockheed Electra‚ which went missing in 1937 after taking off from Papua New Guinea. Deep Sea Vision says that it believes Earhart and her navigator got off track because they forgot to take into account the International Date Line leading them to be off target and crash into the ocean. “This is maybe the most exciting thing I’ll ever do in my life‚” Deep See Vision CEO Tim Romeo told The Wall Street Journal of a return trip to survey the wreckage. “I feel like a 10-year-old going on a treasure hunt.”  The group posted photos of the wreck on Sunday‚ announcing news of the find. “On July 2‚ 1937‚ Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan took off from Papua New Guinea‚ nearing the end of their record-setting journey around the world never to be seen again. The group used the HUGIN 6000‚ an autonomous underwater vehicle‚ to search massive portions of the ocean at a time. Dorothy Cochrane‚ aeronautics curator at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum‚ said that she was looking into Deep Sea Vision’s findings. “We are intrigued with DSV’s initial imagery and believe it merits another expedition in the continuing search for Amelia Earhart’s aircraft near Howland Island‚” she said.
