Have you noticed that stories about measles have been popping up in the news a lot lately?  At first I didn’t pay much attention‚ but then I decided to look into what is going on‚ and I was quite alarmed by what I found.  At one time measles was a disease that was on the verge of being totally defeated‚ but now it is back with a vengeance.  According to the World Health Organization‚ the number of measles cases in Europe in 2023 was 45 times higher than it was in 2022… There was an “alarming” nearly 45-fold increase in measles cases in Europe last year‚ the World Health Organization (WHO) says. Health chiefs are warning that cases are still rising and “urgent measures” are needed to prevent further spread. Some 42‚200 people were infected in 2023‚ compared to 941 during the whole of 2022. What could possibly account for an increase of this magnitude? I don’t know‚ because this isn’t supposed to be able to happen. We are being told that Russia and Kazakhstan each reported approximately 10‚000 cases during the first ten months of last year… Russia and Kazakhstan fared the worst‚ with about 10‚000 cases each from January to October last year. In Western Europe‚ Britain had the most cases with 183. The WHO said there were nearly 21‚000 hospitalizations and five measles-related deaths in the January-October period in the 51 countries in its European region. Why is Russia being hit so hard? Could this have anything to do with the war in Ukraine? I don’t know. Of course cases of measles have been spiking in many other parts of the globe as well.  Here in the United States‚ there have been outbreaks in Pennsylvania‚ Virginia and Georgia during the past couple of months… Nearly a dozen cases of measles have been reported in Pennsylvania‚ Virginia and Georgia in recent weeks‚ according to local health departments. International travel‚ coupled with declining global vaccination rates‚ is probably behind this spate of cases‚ experts say. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has confirmed at least nine cases of measles over the past month after a person contracted the highly contagious virus outside the United States and exposed a parent and child at a children’s hospital‚ according to health department spokesperson James Garrow. That exposure then led to a Philadelphia day care outbreak that includes at least five children. Once measles appears in a community‚ it can spread very rapidly‚ and that is because it is extremely contagious… But unlike other common viruses‚ measles is so contagious that up to 90 percent of people who are close to an infected person will become infected if they are not immune to the virus‚ according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “It doesn’t have to be cough right in your face‚” Stinchfield says. Tiny virus particles can survive in the air for two hours‚ where they “circulate around and bounce over to this person and that person‚ and before you know it‚ you’ve exposed a lot of people‚” she says. What’s more‚ a person infected with measles can spread the virus four days before the most obvious symptom — a telltale rash — appears. Hopefully this measles scare will turn out to be nothing. But I will be keeping a very close eye on any future developments. Meanwhile‚ the H5N1 bird flu continues to kill vast numbers of birds and animals all over the planet. In Argentina‚ it has been spreading rapidly among seals‚ and almost all of the seal pups that get infected end up dead… Almost 96 percent of Southern elephant seal pups across Argentina born in 2023 have met a tragic end as a highly contagious strain of avian influenza continues to wreak havoc on wildlife. The scale of mortality sparks concerns that the H5N1 strain is now capable of mammal-to-mammal infection. “The sight of elephant seals found dead or dying along the breeding beaches can only be described as apocalyptic‚” says Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) health director Chris Walzer. Once there is sustained mammal to mammal transmission of H5N1‚ scientists tell us that it is probably only a matter of time before there is an outbreak among humans. And that is really bad news‚ because H5N1 can have “a greater than 50% death rate” among humans according to the CDC. So we will watch for more reports that H5N1 is spreading among mammals. Earlier today‚ I found a story about a polar bear in Alaska that just died from the disease… A polar bear has been killed by bird flu as the highly contagious H5N1 virus spreads into the most remote parts of the planet. The death was confirmed in December by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. “This is the first polar bear case reported‚ for anywhere‚” Dr Bob Gerlach‚ Alaska’s state veterinarian‚ told the Alaska Beacon. It was found near Utqiagvik‚ one of the northernmost communities in Alaska‚ two years after this latest strain was detected in North America. Needless to say‚ that is not a good sign. There is one more thing that I wanted to mention before I wrap up this article. Employees at a hospital in Denver have been given a live Ebola vaccine “for preventative measures”… A few medical employees at Denver Health made history Monday as some of the first people to receive the live Ebola vaccine for preventative measures‚ the hospital said. Ebola is a rare but deadly disease. In 2014‚ a major outbreak in West Africa led to some cases in the United States. While there are no known outbreaks in the world right now‚ members of Denver Health’s High Risk Infection Team said they are some of the first to receive the live vaccine as a way to be prepared in the event of a future outbreak. If Ebola is not a threat in North America‚ why do this? I don’t understand. Over the past few years‚ there have been some tremendous public health scares‚ but I believe that what we have seen so far is nothing compared to what is coming. The diseases that are already circulating around the globe will continue to mutate‚ and it is inevitable that new outbreaks will erupt. In secret labs all over the planet‚ researchers are experimenting with some of the deadliest diseases ever known to humanity‚ and in many of those cases they are actually trying to make those diseases even deadlier. It is way too easy for an accident to happen‚ and once a bug gets loose it can spread all over the world in the blink of an eye. Our ability to create great “pestilences” has far surpassed our ability to control them‚ and that represents a very serious existential threat to all of humanity. Ohio Conservatives are jumping for joy today. In a 23-9 vote Wednesday‚ the Ohio Senate voted to override Republican Governor Mike DeWine’s veto of legislation that would ban transgender surgeries for minors and keep transgender women out of women’s sports. In layman's terms‚ the so-called “Republican” governor wanted kids to be able to get their genitals mutilated and didn’t care if women’s sports were unfair or unsafe. The Ohio Senate disagreed and voted to override DeWine’s veto. This is great news for kids in Ohio who are struggling with gender dysphoria and need mental health assistance rather than to receive life threatening and damaging treatments.  This is also good news for women who want and deserve fair and equal sporting competitions. House Bill 68 includes the “Save Adolescents from Experimentation” and the “Save Women’s Sports” acts.  For the first of the two acts mentioned‚ doctors would not be allowed to provide what the left calls “gender affirming care” to kids. So children would be safe from things like puberty blockers‚ hormone replacement therapy and life threatening surgeries. When DeWine vetoed the bill about a month ago‚ he insisted that he spoke with transgender kids who insisted they were “thriving” because of their transition. Perhaps those kids’ temporary satisfaction fed their delusion and DeWine fell for it. I can assure you‚ transitioning doesn’t solve any issues. It makes them worse and provides the opposite of "thriving." As for the second act in the bill‚ the Ohio Senate recognized that men do not belong in women's sports. Now in Ohio‚ transgender girls in high schools will not be allowed to participate in girls sports‚ and if they sneak in and a biological girl is “deprived” of an athletic opportunity‚ she can sue. Chloe Cole‚ a 19-year-old girl who de-transitioned‚ has been in full support of the passing of the bill. “Today Ohio overrode the governor’s Veto and has successfully secured the rights of children and protected women’s sports‚" she wrote on X. "The energy in the chamber is incredible. Child gender mutilation and gender ideology as a whole will end with a whimper." Former NCAA athlete who went up against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas‚ Riley Gaines wrote that the bill‚ which will become law in 90 days‚ protects “Ohio’s most vulnerable.” Liz Wheeler of "The Liz Wheeler Show" also celebrated when she wrote‚ “HUGE: Ohio legislature officially overrides the coward Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto &; votes to ban cross-sex hormones &; transgender surgeries for kids &; bans biological men in women’s sports. WIN.” Reputable independent journalist Nick Sortor noted that the decision is “GREAT news for the children of Ohio” and posed the question‚ “Why is this such a controversial issue in the first place?” Summing up‚ this is a great step in the right direction in Ohio and will save and protect countless Ohioan young people.

Syndicated radio host Dan Bongino gave a brutal example of how members of the Biden administration alienated the American middle class.  On the Jan. 23 edition of The Dan Bongino Show‚ Bongino played a clip of Biden Climate Czar John “Lurch” Kerry speaking out against farming at the World Economic Forum (WEF). Kerry had this to say to a gathering of globalists about the people who feed the world: “Agriculture contributes about 33% of all the emissions of the world‚ depending a little bit on how you count it‚ but it’s anywhere from 26[%] to 33[%] and we can’t get to net zero. We don’t get this job done unless agriculture is front and center as part of the solution.”    Bongino pointed to Kerry’s agenda as a perfect example of the gap between the Biden administration and the middle class. “This is why they’re losing middle-class voters! Folks‚ serious question: how many people you think are going to get to vote for you when you tell the middle class like‚ ‘the enemy of the state are the farmers’?”            Bongino went on to express his appreciation for farmers‚ emphasizing all that they do to sustain a population that needs to be fed. Bongino jokingly admitted that he would be dead without farmers.  “Thank you for feeding my wretched soul‚” he told the farmers of the country. I love you guys‚ not John Kerry‚ Lurch‚ don’t give a s**t. He’s like‚ ‘You farmers are polluting the atmosphere.’ Yes‚ because they’re trying to feed human beings. God gave us the earth to use‚ not to pollute‚ but to use. And to use it‚ we gotta do this thing like eat. It’s crazy but it's gotta happen.” Previously‚ Kerry also took some heat from The Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro for manipulatively using the language of war to advance his extreme agenda‚ such as squeezing farmers.  Conservatives are under attack! Oklahoma City is among America's 20 largest cities and on track to keep on growing. Although the city of roughly 700‚000 does not presently have a problem with density and has plenty of room left for sprawl‚ a California real estate developer nevertheless has a hankering to extend the Big Friendly skyward. Matteson Capital‚ a firm headquartered in Newport Beach‚ California‚ and architecture firm AO announced Friday they were seeking greater latitude from the City of Oklahoma concerning the height of one of the towers in its proposed development dubbed the Boardwalk at Bricktown. If it gets its way‚ then Oklahoma City might soon become home to America's tallest building. Oklahoma City Free Press reported that the original zoning application requested that the Legends Tower be 1‚750 feet all. However‚ the developer is now seeking to build its so-called Legends Tower 1‚907 feet high — 131 feet taller than One World Trade Center in New York City. Apparently‚ 1‚907 is not an arbitrary number but rather a symbolic gesture to commemorate the year Oklahoma entered the Union. There is a problem‚ however‚ with the developer's request and its corresponding announcement. Kristy Yager‚ public information officer for the city and a staff member of zoning‚ told the Free Press‚ "To clarify‚ they would need to rezone‚ not seek a variance. Their existing SPUD was specifically negotiated‚ including the building height ('Maximum height of any building shall be 300 feet with the exception that height will be limited to 90 feet within 20 feet of the northern SPUD boundary.')" Yager added‚ "We understand the applicant's representative is preparing a new SPUD application‚ which would go to Planning Commission for a recommendation and City Council for final decision." Scot Matteson‚ the CEO of Matteson Capital‚ told KOCO-TV in late December‚ "We're going to build it in phases. We assess the market demand and the growth of population and employment." The developer indicated further that the tower can be shortened if demand turns out to be lower. The developer plans to erect three additional towers at the base of the skyscraper‚ each 345 feet tall. Altogether‚ the development would span roughly 5 million square feet and include a 480-room Hyatt hotel with 85 residential condominiums; 1‚776 residential units; and 110‚000 feet of commercial and community space. Matteson said in a statement Friday‚ "Oklahoma City is experiencing a significant period of growth and transformation‚ making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like the one envisioned for Bricktown." "We believe that this development will be an iconic destination for the city‚ further driving the expansion and diversification of the growing economy‚ drawing in investment‚ new businesses‚ and jobs‚" continued Matteson. "It's a dynamic environment and we hope to see The Boardwalk at Bricktown stand as the pride of Oklahoma City." Rob Budetti‚ managing partner of AO‚ said‚ "Crafting a project of this significance is an honor‚ and the collaborative process with the City‚ Matteson Capital‚ Hensel Phelps‚ and a top-notch team of engineers‚ consultants‚ and development partners has been exceptional. Managing the intricacies of such a project‚ ensuring seamless integration of all components‚ is a significant challenge." The location for the ambitious development is presently occupied by an L-shaped parking lot in Bricktown nearby the Paycom Center‚ home to the Oklahoma City Thunder; the Amtrak station; a movie theater; and a planned soccer stadium. The head of the Arizona GOP‚ Jeff DeWit‚ is stepping down after audio tapes with U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake were released. In the audio tapes‚ DeWit is heard telling Lake to stay out of this year’s Senate race and instead focus on running for governor. Glenn Beck is furious. “The people on my side‚ if you will‚ some of them are corrupt‚” Glenn says. Kari Lake had initially aired the bribery last year at CPAC‚ where she said that someone in the GOP “back east” tried to bribe her to keep her from running for the Senate. A gun-toting male — only 17 years old — held up a Chicago restaurant Monday night‚ police said. But also in the establishment was a concealed-carrying man who took issue with what was happening and opened fire on the suspect.What are the details?Police said the teen entered the Taco Burrito King at 5413 W. Belmont Ave. off Long Avenue in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood — and at gunpoint‚ demanded the contents of the cash register‚ WBBM-TV reported. The clerk behind the register complied with the teen's demands‚ but police told the station that a man with a concealed carry license was also in the Mexican restaurant — and he confronted the gun-toting teen.Cops said the CCL holder took out a gun and shot at the teen — but missed‚ WBBM reported. The teen took off from the restaurant‚ drove away in a black sport-utility vehicle‚ and promptly crashed a half a mile to the south near Diversey and Long Avenues‚ police told the station.The suspect tried to flee the accident scene‚ but officers caught him‚ WBBM said‚ adding that they also recovered a gun.The teen was taken to Community First Hospital with a graze wound‚ police added to the station. Cops initially said the teen was wounded during the armed robbery but later clarified that he was not wounded during the armed robbery‚ WBBM reported.The station noted that police didn't say where they believe the teen sustained the graze gunshot wound‚ but they noted that he was in fair condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon where he was being held in custody.
