January 6 arrests by Biden-Harris DOJ soared in 2024 despite looming election

As voters went to the polls Nov. 5 — many motivated by the weaponization of government by the Biden-Harris administration against its political foes — the U.S. Department of Justice announced that the FBI made its 1,561st Jan. 6 arrest. In its 46-month statistical update, the DOJ also said only one defendant received a sentence reduction based on the landmark 2024 Supreme Court ruling in Fischer v. United States. On June 28, the high court greatly restricted use of the controversial 20-year obstruction of an official proceeding felony charge in Jan. 6 cases. 'All defendants charged in the January 6 prosecution have been charged with some form of trespass or disorderly conduct.' According to the new report, the FBI made 296 Jan. 6 arrests during the first 10 months of 2024, a 23% increase. Since Nov. 6, 2023, the FBI has arrested 359 people, a 30% increase. Arrests are up 73% since November 6, 2022, the DOJ reported. Of the 979 defendants who have pleaded guilty in Jan. 6 cases, 32% were for felony charges and 68% were for misdemeanors, the report said. Of those who pleaded guilty to felonies, 169 were for assaulting law enforcement, 127 for obstructing law enforcement during a civil disorder, and 69 for assaulting law enforcement with a deadly or dangerous weapon, the DOJ report said. Of the 1,028 defendants who have had their cases fully adjudicated, 63% were sentenced to incarceration; 14% were allowed to serve their sentences in home detention. More than 200 defendants have been found guilty in contested trials, including 10 for seditious conspiracy. District of Columbia juries have found every Jan. 6 defendant sent before them guilty of at least some of the charges. Several defendants were fully acquitted in bench trials. Another 40 defendants were found guilty based on an agreed-upon set of facts, the report said. The most common charge against Jan. 6 defendants is for entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, a misdemeanor. Use of the charge was recently upheld 2-1 by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The DOJ no longer reports the number of defendants charged with entering and remaining. The monthly report now simply says, “All defendants charged in the January 6 prosecution have been charged with some form of trespass or disorderly conduct, in violation of federal criminal codes.” U.S. Marine Corps veteran Michael Fitzgerald of Janesville, Wisconsin, is being prosecuted by the DOJ despite suffering from terminal colon cancer. Read his story here. Photo for Blaze News by Chris Duzynski The most recent tally — reported in August 2024 — said 1,417 defendants were charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds. The DOJ has charged more than 355 individuals with corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding, a 20-year felony. Prosecutors have accounted for only 259 of these defendants in its monthly report since July 2024. In the Fischer ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court largely curtailed the DOJ’s unprecedented, novel use of the white-collar crime statute 18 U.S. Code 1512(c)(2) in Jan. 6 cases. The DOJ said it has dropped the 1512(c)(2) charge against 96 of the 126 defendants who had cases pending at the time of the Supreme Court ruling. Prosecutors “will continue to pursue the charge for approximately 13 defendants and continues to assess the remaining defendants,” the report said. Of the 133 defendants whose cases were fully adjudicated before the Fischer ruling, the DOJ didn’t oppose dismissing the 1512(c)(2) charge in 54 cases, the report said. Only one defendant has had a sentence reduction due to the Fischer ruling, the report said. In a number of resentencing hearings, judges have granted upward departures from federal sentencing guidelines to offset any benefit from dismissal of the 1512(c)(2) charge. Like Blaze News? Trump's EPA pick may be a nail in the coffin of federal climate alarmism

President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday that he will appoint former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin (R) to run the Environmental Protection Agency. With Zeldin at the helm, the EPA will likely drop its climate alarmist outlook, maintain meaningful environmental standards, and get out of the way of American innovation. "Lee, with a very strong legal background, has been a true fighter for America First policies," Trump said in a statement. "He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet." Trump noted further that Zeldin will "set new standards on environmental review and maintenance that will allow the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured way." Zeldin, who came within seven points of winning the 2022 New York gubernatorial race, noted, "It is an honor to join President Trump's Cabinet as EPA Administrator. We will restore US Energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US the global leader of AI. We will do so while protecting access to clean air and water." 'This administration is leaving a truly unprecedented legacy.' As EPA administrator, Zeldin will be positioned to help execute Trump's Agenda47, which calls for the end to "all Joe Biden policies that distort energy markets, limit consumer choice, and drive up costs on consumers, including insane wind subsidies, and DoE and EPA regulations that prevent Americans from buying incandescent lightbulbs, gas stoves, quality dishwashers and shower heads, and much more." Trump has vowed to work to ensure America has the lowest energy cost of any industrial nation, to terminate President Joe Biden's electric vehicle mandate, and to resume focusing on concrete environmental issues as opposed to the abstract threat of anthropogenic climate change. Zeldin has a record to beat: In Trump's first term, the Republican administration axed nearly 100 regulations, primarily at the EPA, and dropped climate alarmism like a bad habit, going so far as to scrap the agency's web page on climate change — enraging climate activists and other leftists. "This is a very aggressive attempt to rewrite our laws and reinterpret the meaning of environmental protections," Hana Vizcarra, a staff attorney at Harvard's Environmental and Energy Law Program, told the New York times after Trump's first term. "This administration is leaving a truly unprecedented legacy." Zeldin, poised to help Trump undo another Democratic administration's handiwork, told Fox News Monday, "One of the biggest issues for so many Americans was the economy, and the president was talking about unleashing economic prosperity. Through the EPA, we have the ability to pursue energy dominance, to be able to make the United States the artificial intelligence capital of the world, to bring back American jobs to the auto industry, and so much more." Ben Jealous, executive director of the Sierra Club, the activist outfit that launched over 300 lawsuits against the first Trump administration in hopes of preventing it from executing the people's will, said in a statement Monday, "Naming an unqualified, anti-American worker who opposes efforts to safeguard our clean air and water lays bare Donald Trump's intentions to, once again, sell our health, our communities, our jobs, and our future out to corporate polluters." Jealous and other alarmists tend to gloss over the former congressman's long-standing support for various conservation efforts. Politico noted that Zeldin has supported geographical watershed programs, including cleanup in the Great Lakes, as well as clamping down on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as "forever chemicals." Zeldin also co-sponsored the Carbon Capture Improvement Act to advance carbon capture technology. Myron Ebell, who led Trump's EPA transition team in 2016, told E&ENews, "I think he has all the ability and political savvy to be a great deregulator." "I think he's capable of mastering the technical side of it, but he also will be a great advocate in public for what they’re trying to do," added Ebell. Former Trump EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler congratulated Zeldin, suggesting, "He will do a great job tackling the regulatory overreach while protecting our air and water." Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) tweeted, "Lee Zeldin is a swamp drainer! Perfect choice for EPA." In the first 100 days, Zeldin indicated the EPA will "advance America First policies" and roll back "regulations that the left wing of this country have been advocating through regulatory power that ends up causing businesses to go in the wrong direction." This upcoming Elon Musk product could radically change society as we know it

Now that Donald Trump will return to the White House as the 47th president of the United States, Elon Musk thinks “it’s going to be a bright future.” And he has several inventions he’s excited to roll out now that Democrats and their plans to control every aspect of society have been thwarted. One of those inventions is the Tesla Cybercab — a futuristic-looking robotaxi that is fully autonomous. Unlike other Tesla models, the Cybercab has no steering wheel, no pedals, and no charging plug, as it charges inductively. According to Musk, the Cybercab is supposedly safer than regular vehicles and offers the opportunity to “turn parking lots into parks.” Dave Rubin plays a clip of Musk pitching his Cybercab, as well as other inventions he’s excited about. “All of these things are possible,” says Dave in reference to Musk’s new ideas, “but they won't be possible if you have an overreaching government that is trying to control everyone.” To learn more about the Cybercab and other Musk inventions, watch the clip above. These new Intel CPU specs leaks look very bad for PC gamers

A load of new Intel CPU specs have just been leaked, revealing that the company is potentially cooling up seven new chips to expand the Arrow Lake lineup. If the specs are right, all the new CPUs are going to be cool-running and power-efficient, and they’re not going to be easily overclockable. The leak comes soon after the Arrow Lake launch proved that Intel is struggling to make a good gaming CPU right now, even if the new chips have a decent amount of multi-threaded power. Indeed, as we found in our Core Ultra 7 265K review, the new Intel Arrow Lake architecture really struggles with gaming, and if these leaked specs are correct, then these new Intel chips are going to be even worse, with extremely low clock speeds. The plus side is that the CPUs appear to have extremely low heat output, with the new Core Ultra 9 285T reportedly having a thermal design power (TDP) of just 35W, as does another T-branded chip, the Core Ultra 7 265T. Surprise Grand Theft Auto update finally fixes the worst problem in San Andreas

My hopes are high for GTA 6. We’re going back to Vice City (albeit a reimagined, modernized version) and, based on Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s ability to spin a convincing, epic crime drama has only gotten better in the past ten years. But the shadow of the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition still looms large over my memory. The ‘improved’ visuals effectively robbed GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas of all their identity and atmosphere. Forget the bugs and other technical problems - even when they were running correctly, the new versions of the classic Grand Theft Auto games just looked worse. But now, thanks to a surprise update from Rockstar, things have suddenly improved. Mind Over Magnet Review

YouTuber games rarely go well, and with massive failures like the unreleased Yogscast game or boring mobile games like Pewdiepie's Tuber Simulator, it's hard to have faith in your favorite content creators to make quality titles. That said, there is some hope, and unsurprisingly, it's in the space of Game Development on YouTube.
