Polycephaly: The Rare Phenomenon Of Multi-Headed Animals

Those of you who are chronic users of TikTok (welcome to the gang) may have seen an unusual animal video doing the rounds this week: a two-headed calf. It’s a condition known as polycephaly‚ and although it’s widespread in mythology‚ it’s much rarer in reality. What is polycephaly? The term polycephaly stems from the Greek poly‚ meaning many or multiple; and kephal‚ meaning head. As seen in the calf from the video‚ it is usually a case of an organism with a single body and two heads‚ known as bicephaly or dicephaly‚ although cases of tricephaly have been – perhaps more unreliably – reported.     IFLScience is not responsible for content shared from external sites. How rare is it?Cases of polycephaly tend to make the news or go viral because of just how rare a phenomenon it is – to the point where‚ back in 2006‚ an American aquarium attempted to auction off a two-headed snake for $150‚000.It’s difficult‚ however‚ to truly know the scale of this rarity. As vet Dr Alaina Macdonald told Huron County Museum‚ which is home to two taxidermied polycephalic calves‚ it’s a chance event that “would generally result in the early loss of pregnancy‚ and those pregnancies often are undetected. Indeed‚ it is exceptionally rare for the embryo to develop into a full-term fetus‚ and to survive the length of the gestation.”That being said‚ the viral calf video demonstrates that the live birth of polycephalic animals is possible‚ and it’s been documented across a range of animals. It’s most commonly seen in snakes and turtles‚ but it’s also been reported in pigs‚ sheep‚ and even dolphins. The oldest known case was discovered in the Yixian Formation in China – a fossilized reptile believed to date back to the Early Cretaceous.Polycephaly can also occur in humans. You may have heard of Abigail and Brittany Hensel‚ conjoined twins who share a body; in humans‚ this is known as dicephalus parapagus dipus. What causes it?Speaking of twins‚ scientists have looked to their development to figure out how polycephaly occurs. Identical twins occur when a single fertilized egg splits into two embryos. In the case of polycephaly‚ this split is incomplete‚ known as axial bifurcation. As for why this might happen‚ though there are theories‚ the answers are unclear. “No one knows the exact mechanism behind the abnormal splitting of the embryo‚” said Macdonald.  “Trace mineral deficiencies and environmental factors such as increasing water temperatures and toxin exposure have been implicated in some species‚ but there are likely many causes.  Anything that disrupts that delicate timing of gene expression (including random chance) can cause abnormalities in embryonic development.”It’s also not something that’s considered to be inherited‚ as polycephalic animals often don’t live long enough to reproduce. So‚ we probably shouldn’t get too attached to the now internet-famous two-headed calf‚ but you never know; another bicephalic cow born in the 1990s‚ the aptly named Gemini‚ managed to survive for nearly a year and a half. All “explainer” articles are confirmed by fact checkers to be correct at time of publishing. What Is The “Celtic Curse” And Could You Be At Risk?

What Is The “Celtic Curse” And Could You Be At Risk?

If you received an invitation to get tested for the “Celtic Curse”‚ you might think you’d stumbled back in time‚ or through an enchanted piece of furniture to some fantasy realm. But the condition that goes by this nickname is very much a reality‚ and many sufferers are walking around without realizing they have it. Its more scientific name? Hereditary hemochromatosis. What is hereditary hemochromatosis?Hemochromatosis is a disorder in which too much iron builds up within the body. The condition can sometimes be caused by having regular blood transfusions for another medical condition‚ such as sickle cell disease. Red blood cells are rich in iron‚ but the body struggles to deal with the iron overload. Similarly‚ people with severe liver disease can experience a buildup of iron‚ and in very rare cases excessive amounts of iron in the diet can cause hemochromatosis too. These types of hemochromatosis are known as secondary hemochromatosis. What we're interested in‚ though‚ is primary hemochromatosis caused by genetic mutations‚ most commonly in a gene called homeostatic iron regulator (HFE). The HFE gene encodes a protein that’s vital for the regulation of iron production and absorption in the liver. When everything is working correctly‚ our bodies absorb about 10 percent of the iron obtained from our diet. When this finely balanced system goes wrong due to a genetic mutation‚ toxic levels of iron can start to accumulate. The mutations in the HFE gene are recessive‚ meaning that you would have to inherit two faulty copies of the gene‚ one from each parent‚ to develop hereditary hemochromatosis. What are the symptoms of hereditary hemochromatosis?Iron is a vital mineral for the human body‚ but you can have too much of a good thing. Having too much iron in the blood can lead to a number of symptoms‚ including:Feeling tired or weak – this can be a tricky one as it’s also a symptom of an iron deficiency (anemia)Weight lossJoint painA bronze or grayish look to the skinAbdominal painErectile dysfunctionOver time‚ if left untreated‚ the iron toxicity can cause more serious complications‚ such as diabetes and heart failure‚ and can even be fatal.Symptoms typically arise around age 40. In women‚ because of natural iron loss during menstruation and childbirth‚ the symptoms sometimes do not present until after the menopause. Who is at risk of hereditary hemochromatosis? The reason why hereditary hemochromatosis is sometimes known as the Celtic Curse is because it’s particularly common in those with Irish or Scottish ancestry. Because the symptoms can be mild‚ or mistaken for other conditions‚ it’s thought a large number of people with the condition are going undiagnosed.Until a few years ago‚ this was not considered to be a major problem. However‚ a pair of studies published in early 2019 raised alarm bells by suggesting that hereditary hemochromatosis quadruples the risk of liver disease and doubles the risk of arthritis as patients age.The sudden death of 59-year-old Aberdeenshire resident Miranda McHardy in spring 2023‚ which was attributed to a late diagnosis of hereditary hemochromatosis‚ has sparked a recent initiative by charity Haemochromatosis UK to run a screening program across this region of Scotland. Research suggests that one in 113 people in Scotland are predisposed to the disease‚ but fewer than one in 20 have been diagnosed. To try to combat this‚ over 25‚000 households will soon be offered a free postal genetic test‚ along with information about the symptoms to look out for.“If Miranda had known what she had she would still be here now‚” said McHardy’s sister Louisa Leader in a statement. “She had chronic arthritis‚ type one diabetes‚ heart and liver damage all of which was completely preventable if she had known that she had haemachromatosis.”Can hereditary hemochromatosis be treated? There is some good news for anyone who discovers through this screening program that they do‚ in fact‚ have hereditary hemochromatosis. Treating the condition before it causes lasting damage is comparatively simple. Listen up‚ medieval medicine enthusiasts: we’re talking bloodletting. The safest way to remove the excess iron is to remove some red blood cells from the body. Patients with diagnosed hemochromatosis therefore have blood drawn on a regular basis‚ while doctors monitor their iron levels to determine the best schedule going forward. As an added bonus‚ some of the blood collected in this way can be used for transfusions‚ like regular blood donation‚ so patients get a double whammy of feeling better and helping others. Ideally‚ treatment for hereditary hemochromatosis will begin early‚ before the disease has had a chance to cause more serious complications. That’s why coming forward for screening is so important. If you know you have a family history of the disease‚ or suspect you might and have any of the symptoms‚ it’s best to speak to a healthcare provider and request a test. You could also seek advice from organizations in your area that raise awareness of hemochromatosis‚ such as Hemochromatosis.org and Haemochromatosis UK.The content of this article is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice‚ diagnosis‚ or treatment. Is Honey Bee Vomit?

Is Honey Bee Vomit?

Honey is enjoyed by humans and animals alike the world over‚ but if stories about it being delicious bee barf have put you off your breakfast‚ you can rest assured it’s not vomit – but it’s also not much better. There are around 20‚000 species of bees in the world and‚ of these‚ less than 4 percent produce honey. The honey-producing species feed on nectar and pollen. Nectar is a sugary energy source that facilitates flying and comb building in adult bees‚ but it is also taken back to the hive to be converted into honey to feed to the colony’s young. While honey is made up of at least 181 components‚ it is essentially just 80 percent sugar and 15 percent water. It's also somewhat acidic and has mild antiseptic properties‚ as well as being downright delicious.Honey-producing bees produce two kinds of food for their young in the hive‚ and while they’re both made using nectar‚ it’s the process that makes the products unique. And no‚ neither is vomit. The honey that we eat is produced in the bee’s honey sac‚ or honey stomach‚ and it gets its flavor from the type of flower the nectar is collected from. While the term “stomach secretions” is not exactly helping honey beat the vomit allegations‚ the organ honey is produced in is entirely separate from the bee’s functioning "food stomach".The honey sac‚ or crop‚ is a specialized organ that works as a store for nectar or water‚ enabling the bee to safely transport it back to the hive. Once home‚ the bee will regurgitate the nectar in a process called trophallaxis‚ and begin adding sugar-inverting enzymes to the nectar to create sweet‚ sweet honey. This honey is then stored in a honeycomb within the hive and is used to feed both the adult and larval bees.In addition to the honey we know and love‚ bees also produce royal jelly. This is a highly nutritious secretion used to feed queen bee larvae throughout the larval period and to feed worker and drone larvae for the first three days of their lives. Royal jelly is a thick‚ white substance produced from the glands in the heads of worker bees.People have also thought to combine the two bee products and market it as “royal honey”. But while both honey and royal jelly do have nutritional benefits for humans‚ the claims that royal honey can be used as a powerful aphrodisiac are entirely unsubstantiated. So‚ what did we learn? While honey does technically come from a “stomach”‚ and royal jelly comes from a gland‚ let’s just stick to calling them “bodily secretions” rather than incorrectly labeling it as vomit. Oh‚ and royal honey won’t make you good in bed.

Missing The Point: Kimmel Claims House Produced More X-Rated Hunter Pics Than Bills

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel continued to miss the point of the House’s interest in Hunter Biden as he claimed on Wednesday that it has produced more photos of his penis than bills. Kimmel’s interest in the male organ would continue as he also predicted that Donald Trump would remove Speaker Mike Johnson’s after some fairly basic comments Johnson made about President Joe Biden and God’s will. First‚ on the subject of Hunter Biden‚ “Congress is-- though is on pace to have one of its least-productive sessions ever. They've only passed 34 bills. So far‚ they've produced more photos of Hunter Biden's penis than actual legislation. Why do I feel like this all ends with Hunter Biden doing a Super Bowl commercial for the Best Buy Geek Squad? ‘Never leave your laptop again.’”     Yes‚ there have been some X-rated pictures of Hunter Biden shown by members of Congress‚ but the influence peddling is why he is at the center of their investigation. Moving on in his monologue‚ Kimmel reported that “This morning‚ the Speaker of the House‚ Mike Johnson‚ had to answer an interesting question. Johnson‚ who’s an election denier‚ claims to be deeply religious. Someone asked whether Joe Biden's presidency was God's will.” Anyone trying catch Johnson is a bit of hypocrisy would surely be disappointed as Kimmel played a clip of Johnson’s response‚ “Is Joe Biden’s presidency God’s will?...  God is the one that allows people to be raised in authority. It must have been God's will‚ then. That's my belief.” Kimmel replied‚ “I hope Trump doesn't find out about that because you tell Trump God picked Biden‚ Mike is not gonna have a Johnson tomorrow.” And Kimmel will continue to not have a clue what the relevant House committees are actually investigating when it comes to Hunter Biden.     Here is a transcript for the January 17 show: ABC Jimmy Kimmel Live 1/17/2024 11:43 PM ET JIMMY KIMMEL: Congress is-- though is on pace to have one of its least-productive sessions ever. They've only passed 34 bills. So far‚ they've produced more photos of Hunter Biden's penis than actual legislation. Why do I feel like this all ends with Hunter Biden doing a Super Bowl commercial for the Best Buy Geek Squad? "Never leave your laptop again."  This morning‚ the Speaker of the House‚ Mike Johnson‚ had to answer an interesting question. Johnson‚ who’s an election denier‚ claims to be deeply religious. Someone asked whether Joe Biden's presidency was God's will.  MIKE JOHNSON: Is Joe Biden’s presidency God’s will?...  God is the one that allows people to be raised in authority. It must have been God's will‚ then. That's my belief.  KIMMEL: I hope Trump doesn't find out about that because you tell Trump God picked Biden‚ Mike is not gonna have a Johnson tomorrow.

Amanpour Touts 'Barbie' Movie as 'Subversively‚ Seriously Feminist' 'Trojan Horse' on PBS

On the PBS show Amanpour &; Co.‚ host Christiane Amanpour celebrated Latino actress America Ferrera and her monologue in the massively popular Barbie movie‚ where she laments "It's literally impossible to be a woman....we're always doing it wrong. You have to never get old‚ never be rude‚ never show off‚ never be selfish‚ never fall down‚ never fail‚ never show fear‚ never get out of line." Ferrera‚ a feminist and a Democrat‚ said she was "so excited‚" that "it's the Barbie movie that no one asked for. That no one thought we needed‚ you know." Amanpour shot back: "And kind of subversively‚ seriously feminist." Amanpour said many probably expected a light movie about a classic doll. Ferrera replied "it very easily could have been something bright and fun and exciting‚ and probably would've made a lot of money and been successful. But what Greta [Gerwig] and her partner‚ Noah [Baumbach]‚ did with the script‚ and then Greta is the director‚ creating this world‚ it was so generous and it was so exciting."   As they showed a clip of Ferrera's working-mom character deciding to cast aside her responsibilities and go skating with Barbie into Barbie Land‚ Amanpour called it "Right on the zeitgeist. It's almost like a Trojan Horse for those who are afraid of feminism." Ferrera said "Yes." Amanpour continued: Certainly‚ some women still are. They don't even like to say the word. A certain number of men are still‚ you know‚ worried about it. The idea of doing what you all did through humor and through fun must have been kind of the way to make it even more accessible." Ferrera agreed‚ that you had to have the pink plastic world and the cotton-candy atmosphere to sell the radical feminist worldview (with ten citations of "patriarchy" in the film):  FERRERA: Absolutely. I mean‚ I think in a way to bring people into something that is maybe uncomfortable for them. You have to make it a party. You have to make it irresistible. You have to make it more fun over here than what's happening over there so that people perk up and listen and show up and then get exposed‚ you know‚ underneath the laughter to something that they weren't expecting to get hit with. And I mean‚ that's the brilliance of Greta. And I know there's been conversations about like‚ well‚ this isn't very‚ you know‚ advanced. It's not saying anything we don't already know. First of all‚ there are plenty of people who don't know. There are countries around the world that banned this film for what it is and what it's saying. There's plenty of young women and people of all genders who've never had the words or thought about patriarchy and the role of women in the way that this film illuminates. And I think that we're in trouble if what we need is for everybody to be at an advanced entry level to what we want them to understand. Like‚ we've got to meet each other where we are and have a conversation‚ whether -- whatever it's about. Inviting people in and not trying to speak down to people and say‚ well‚ this is the right way to talk about your experience as a woman. The film is a cartoonish patriarchy‚ and it's really a collection of kitschy skits that doesn't hold together. Amanpour asked Ferrera the feminist Democrat if she's thought of running for office. She said no...maybe because you can be better paid and sell your leftist politics in the movies and on television.

‘Grow Up’: JP Morgan CEO Cautions Against Demonization of MAGA on CNBC

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon stood up for former president Donald Trump and his supporters while discussing the state of the economy.  During a Jan. 17 appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box‚ Dimon suggested that there were many potential problems ahead for the economy and challenged co-anchors Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin to take a second look at the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination and his backers. Dimon condemned Democrats for referring to Trump supporters as “deplorables” and characterizing them as hugging “onto their Bibles‚ and their beer and their guns.” Dimon asked the hosts‚ “Could we just stop that stuff and actually grow up and treat people with respect and listen to them a little bit? ... I do think this negative talk about MAGA is going to hurt Biden’s reelection campaign.” "I don't like how Trump said things‚ but he wasn't wrong about those critical issues. That's why they're voting for him. People should be more respectful of our fellow citizens‚" says @JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon. "I think this negative talk about MAGA will hurt Biden's campaign." pic.twitter.com/WKnDjBvefO — Squawk Box (@SquawkCNBC) January 17‚ 2024 Dimon’s remarks came during a discussion about the state of the 2024 presidential election and the Iowa caucuses. The Chase CEO listed several issues that he said Trump had been right on —  NATO‚ immigration‚ the economy and tax reform — and called on the media to change its approach to speaking with Trump voters.  Dimon said‚ “[Trump] wasn’t wrong about some of these critical issues and that’s why they’re voting for him and I think people should be a little more respectful of our fellow citizens and when you guys have people up here you should always ask the: 'Why?' Not like it's a binary thing: ‘You’re supporting Trump. You’re not supporting Trump. Why are you supporting Trump?’” Kernan agreed‚ saying “It’s hard to hate 75 million of your fellow Americans.”  Beyond calling out Trump Derangement Syndrome‚ Dimon also warned Kernan and Sorkin not to assume that the economy would be “hunky-dory” in 2024 and 2025.  Dimon said‚ “I think it’s a mistake to assume that everything is hunky-dory. And when stock markets are up its kinda like this little drug we all feel. Like‚ it’s just great‚ you know‚ but remember we’ve had so much fiscal and monetary stimulation so I’m a little more on the cautious side.” Conservatives are under attack! Chris Plante Praises ‘Extraordinary’ MRC Bombshell Exposing Biden DHS

WMAL host Chris Plante highlighted a recent MRC Study exposing how the federal government is using taxpayer money from the Department of Homeland Security’s domestic terrorist prevention program to target conservatives.  MRC released a report Wednesday exposing how the DHS awarded $700‚000 in grant money to the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab (the “Rhode Island Lab”) to promote leftist propaganda. Using the grant‚ the university then trained teachers to use censorship tools to silence right-leaning political dissent in their classrooms. In addition‚ the grant was engineered to pay activists to write blog content promoting left-wing propaganda. It even paid students up to $1‚000 to make social media posts promoting so-called “media literacy.” Plante called the exposé “pretty extraordinary and terrible and horrifying” during the January 17 edition of his syndicated radio show‚ The radio host also highlighted the resemblance of what the Biden administration was doing to fascism. “This is Benito Mussolini's definition of fascism a merger of state and corporate power.” He later affirmed this point emphatically adding that “These people are fascists. They're anti-American. They're unamerican.” Plante read the Daily Wire’s write-up of the MRC’s report over the airwaves. “In its funding application‚ the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab declared that ‘propaganda and misinformation concerning topics including immigration [and] racial justice’ had become ‘disruptive.’ It asked DHS for funding to run “community-created counter-propaganda.” Plante added‚ “What that means is propaganda.” Plante continued reading. “‘Propaganda can also be used for socially beneficial purposes.’  They just pull it right out here and show it to everyone‚” he commented. The application goes on to note that the public is “suggestible” and that there is precedent for using propaganda against Americans‚ citing both world wars and the Cold War as examples.  The host summarized: “So they requested money from the Biden administration to stand up and perpetrate a propaganda effort inside the United States with taxpayer money and the Alejandro Mayorkas Department of Homeland Security said ‘Sure we'll give you $700‚000 to conduct propaganda.’”  The Rhode Island Lab used the TVTP grant money to begin “Courageous RI‚” a “media literacy program” that works to neutralize misinformation generated through alleged “hate” and “intolerance.” But as Plante pointed out‚ misinformation is a loose‚ vague term often used to discredit the truth.  “[T]he problem is that it's not misinformation. You know‚ all the things that they've called misinformation have all been correct‚” Plante said. “Like‚ there was no Russian collusion between President Trump‚ the Trump campaign‚ the Trump White House and Russia.” He noted evidence of President Joe Biden’s family receiving illicit payments from Russian‚ Ukrainian and Chinese entities‚ but the left won’t bat an eye.  Plante closed out his broadcast explaining that although horrifying‚ listeners should not be surprised. Referring to leftists he said‚ “Free Speech is not their thing‚ The Bill of Rights is not their thing and they're using our taxpayer money to launch propaganda efforts from universities and government agencies. These are dangerous people‚ they're not on our side. They're not liberals. They're the left.” Conservatives are under attack. The Benefits Of Food Fermentation

Food fermentation is a way to keep bacteria‚ fungi (like yeasts)‚ and other tiny organisms from ruining our food. Enzymes‚ the main culprits behind food going bad‚ work to absorb nutrients and break down components‚ causing the food to naturally decompose. Mass immigration isn’t good for the US or our global neighbors

Mass immigration isn’t good for the US or our global neighbors

Is it selfish to oppose our de facto open-border policy and mass illegal immigration? Is it selfish to oppose high levels of immigration or even skilled immigration? Liberal-left messaging says yes to all‚ but attention to all of immigration’s moral questions reveals that charity toward our fellow citizens and our global neighbors demands that we drastically change our current approach. It isn’t selfish to say our current policies are destructive to our country. Many blue-state residents have been further wakened to the reality that massive immigration’s costs will now be borne not merely by residents of places such as El Paso‚ Texas‚ but by them. Parts of O’Hare Airport in Chicago last week were blocked off to house illegal immigrants. James Madison High School in Brooklyn was closed‚ and students were told they could access teachers online as the city sheltered almost 2‚000 illegal immigrants from winter conditions. Though the migrants were removed‚ school remained out of session last Thursday‚ and the school’s Winter Wonderland dance was “postponed indefinitely.” New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced he would ask “faith-based” groups and then private residents to pitch in since many people “are suffering right now because of economic challenges” and “have spare rooms” — presumably to rent. Massachusetts Governor Kim Driscoll also asked that residents take “migrants” into their own homes. The lesson? Illegal aliens take priority over those who are here legally in blue America. Their ability to travel for work‚ send their kids to school‚ and live as they wish in their own homes is now either blocked or in doubt. It should be obvious that it is not “selfish” to say this is wrong and destructive. But thanks to the buses from Texas and Florida‚ blue-state residents are discovering that fact. Yet the endless lecturing goes on. Perhaps it’s not good for us Americans‚ they say‚ but we must open our doors to the world. That’s to assume that it is good for the world that we take in everybody. To “think globally‚ act locally‚” as the old liberal slogan says‚ should mean accounting for how policies affect our nation and the world. Catholic social teaching has always included this reality‚ even if too many activists‚ academics‚ and even prelates miss it. Immigration is a right but not absolute. It gains in strength depending on the situation. Those persecuted have the greatest right. Those in economic need are second. Those doing well but desirous of more wealth have the weakest claims. In a 1995 speech‚ Pope John Paul II said‚ “Illegal immigration should be prevented‚ but it is also essential to combat vigorously the criminal activities which exploit illegal immigrants.” Illegal immigration weakens the rule of law in both countries receiving and sending immigrants. It encourages trafficking‚ lower wages‚ and a culture of lawlessness. But there’s more. We often focus on unskilled labor‚ but the other kind also poses moral problems. In his 1981 encyclical‚ “Laborem Exercens‚” John Paul argued that though migration can be a “necessary evil‚” we must remember that it “constitutes a loss for the country which is left behind.” No pure individualist‚ John Paul talked about “the loss of a subject of work‚ whose efforts of mind and body could contribute to the common good of his own country‚ but these efforts‚ this contribution‚ are instead offered to another society which in a sense has less right to them than the person’s country of origin.” We ignore this‚ even saying we should only “let in skilled workers.” But other countries can’t ignore it. Brain drain — the loss of skilled workers — hurts them. Last month‚ a Nigerian medical association met to decry and propose solutions to the loss of doctors post-residency. It isn’t just medicine. In India‚ a study last year of the 1‚000 highest scorers in the 2010 joint entrance exams to the Indian Institutes of Technology found that “36% migrated abroad‚ and of the top 100 scorers‚ 62% left the country.” As in Nigeria‚ concerted government efforts to lure back talented natives have met with some success. Some immigration will always be a fact of life‚ but the present nature and scale of ours is destabilizing to our country‚ to the countries losing population‚ and ultimately to the world. As the saying goes‚ good fences make good neighbors. If we want to be good neighbors to fellow Americans and the global village‚ we must mend our fences and limit who and how many people we let through them.

'More realistic than ever': Florida looks to regulate use of AI in political campaign ads

A Florida Senate committee approved a new bill that regulates the use of artificial intelligence in political campaign advertisements‚ requiring disclaimers in any media that benefits from the use of machine learning. The Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections recently approved a series of bills‚ including finance bills and a bill that limits county commissioners' term length‚ Daily Fetched reported.Senate Bill 850 was also passed‚ titled "Use of Artificial Intelligence in Political Advertising."The bill defined the term "generative artificial intelligence" as a "machine-based system that can‚ for a given set of human-defined objectives‚ emulate the structure and characteristics of input data in order to generate derived synthetic content‚ including images‚ video‚ audio‚ text‚ and other digital content."As such‚ the bill still stated that any "political advertisement‚ electioneering communication‚ or other miscellaneous advertisement of a political nature" cannot use any images‚ video‚ audio‚ text‚ or "other digital content" that was created entirely or partially with the help of AI without a disclaimer. The bill added that any political ad that uses AI will be required to display the following statement‚ displayed prominently:"Created in whole or in part with the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI)."The use of AI without the disclaimer is subject to typical criminal penalties relating to election advertising laws and/or complaints regarding violations with the Florida Elections Commission.Republican state Senator Nick DiCeglie‚ the bill's sponsor‚ said the "increasing access to sophisticated AI-generated content threatens the integrity of elections by facilitating the dissemination of misleading or completely fabricated information that appears more realistic than ever.""The technology that produces this content has advanced rapidly and outpaced government regulation‚" DiCeglie added‚ according to Just the News.Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was accused of using three AI-generated images in an attack ad on Donald Trump in June 2023. As Reuters reported‚ images in the ad of Trump hugging and kissing Dr. Anthony Fauci were created with AI. The video did not disclose any use of AI‚ which would be required of DeSantis' team under the new law.The ad was also hit with a community note on X that disputed the claim that Trump could have fired Fauci. Donald Trump became a household name by FIRING countless people *on television*\n\nBut when it came to Fauci... — (@) The new rule is set to go into effect on July 1‚ 2024.Like Blaze News?
