God Is Working in Your Life – Senior Living – January 16

God Is Working in Your Life And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him‚ who have been called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28 Many years ago in London‚ a talented young man began preparing for the ministry. He had surrendered his life to Christ and wanted so badly to be used by the Lord. He was a brilliant student and completed his seminary studies with honors. Prior to his ordination as a minister‚ he was required to preach a sermon before a select group of clergymen. The intensity of the situation made him nervous-especially when he saw his lIovely fiancée sitting in the audience. In his anxiety‚ he lost his train of thought as he preached...which resulted in the board not approving him for ordination. The rejection was a bitter disappointment‚ and his grief increased when his fiancée broke off their engagement because he had performed so poorly. After these two events‚ he fought depression for quiet some time. Several weeks later‚ He poured out his complaint before God‚ and was reminded of God’s promise in Romans 8:28...”in all things God works for the good of those who love him....” It was then that he experienced an incredible peace in his soul. When the chance to preach happened again‚ the young man delivered a powerful sermon to the examining board and he was ordained to the ministry. Since this time‚ the dynamic preaching of G. Campbell Morgan has impacted thousands of people. This infamous expositor authored several Bible commentaries and 60 books on theology. Morgan left a legacy that still stirs hearts today-and the crisis he went through and overcame with God’s help played a huge part. Failure can often cause us to question the calling God has placed on our lives. But many times we can’t see the big picture. Friend‚ whether you can see it or not‚ God is working in your life-but sometimes He works behind the scenes. If you are a believer and have experienced failure‚ don’t give up! God can use that failure to produce success and blessing in your life according to the promises in His Word. PRAYER CHALLENGE: Ask God to turn your failures into triumphs‚ and thank Him for the promises of His Word. Trump Calls for Nation to ‘Come Together’ After Iowa Victory

After a giant win in the Iowa caucus‚ former President Donald Trump took a gracious tone in his victory speech‚ and talked about issues such as border security‚ energy independence and paying down the national debt.  “I really think this is time now for everybody‚ our country‚ to come together‚” Trump told his supporters. “We want to come together‚ whether … Republican or Democrat or liberal or conservative.” Trump went on to talk about his opponents. “I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki for having a good time together. We are all having a good time together. And I think they both actually did very well‚ I do. They both did very well‚” Trump said‚ referring to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. He added‚ referring to Ohio businessman Vivek Ramaswamy‚ “I also want to congratulate Vivek. He did a hell of a job‚ going from zero‚ and he’s getting about 8%.” Trump was expected to win all 99 Iowa counties. After Trump’s remarks‚ with about 97% of the vote‚ he had 51% of the vote‚ to DeSantis at 21.2%‚ and Nikki Haley at 19%‚ according to the Wall Street Journal. Ramaswamy garnered 7.7%‚ and announced to his supporters he was dropping out.  Seeming to assume the mantle of the nominee before the next contest in New Hampshire‚ Trump was less generous toward his foe‚ President Joe Biden‚ who defeated him in 2020.  “I don’t want to be overly rough on the president‚ but I have to say that he is the worst president that we have had in the history of our country‚” Trump said. “He’s destroying our country. … I thought to myself‚ Jimmy Carter is happy now. Because he will go down as being a brilliant president by comparison to Joe Biden.” Biden posted a fundraising appeal on X Monday night‚ writing‚ “Looks like Donald Trump just won Iowa. He’s the clear front runner on the other side at this point. But here’s the thing: this election was always going to be you and me vs. extreme MAGA Republicans. It was true yesterday and it’ll be true tomorrow.” Looks like Donald Trump just won Iowa. He’s the clear front runner on the other side at this point. But here’s the thing: this election was always going to be you and me vs. extreme MAGA Republicans. It was true yesterday and it’ll be true tomorrow. So if you’re with us‚ chip…— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 16‚ 2024 In his remarks‚ Trump also talked about what might be a historic victory.  “They said 12%‚ that’s a big win‚ hard to do. I think we more than doubled it‚ tripled it maybe‚” Trump said. “They said we will never get over 50%. When I left and we were at 54%.” In 2016‚ Trump finished second in Iowa‚ with 24% of the vote‚ while Sen. Ted Cruz won with 27% of the vote. Trump vowed to the crowd that if he wins another term‚ “We are going to seal up the border.” He talked more about Biden’s border crisis.  “We have an invasion of millions and millions of people that are coming into our country. I can’t imagine why they think that’s a good thing‚” Trump said.  “Hundreds and hundreds of terrorists are coming‚ known terrorists‚” Trump said of the border. “Some of them really bad. Many of them came in and nobody knows where they are. This is not a good thing‚ and we’re going to deport. We’re going to have a deportation level that we haven’t seen in this country for a long time‚ since Dwight Eisenhower‚ actually.” Trump also said‚ “We are going to drill‚ baby‚ drill. Right away. Drill‚ drill.” “We have to bring down our energy. I say all the time we have more liquid gold under our feet than any other nation anywhere in the world‚” Trump said.  Trump took a shot at the news media‚ declaring‚ “If the fake news would be real and honest news‚ 90% of our problems in this country would be solved.” Trump further added he will address China.   “We’re not going to let China do what they would like to do‚” Trump said. “I get along great with him also‚ President Xi [Jinping]‚ he’s a strong leader. We will get things solid.”  He also said if he returns to the White House‚ “the Ukraine war [will be] solved‚ the Israeli situation solved.” Have an opinion about this article? CNN Cuts Away from Trump's Iowa Victory Speech After Mentioning Border Crisis

Former President Trump gave a late-night victory speech on Monday after a historic showing in the Iowa Caucus. But despite the liberal media calling the results for him mere minutes after caucus doors closed and speeches were still ongoing‚ the liberals at CNN and MSNBC didn’t want viewers to hear his victory message to American voters. CNN’s Jake Tapper immediately cut away after Trump dared to mention the crisis at the southern border‚ while MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow opted to censor Trump’s speech in its entirety. After Trump took a few minutes to commend the other candidates in the race for their strong showings and tout his campaign staff‚ Trump pivoted to talking about the issues. “We are going to seal at the border. Because‚ right now‚ we have an invasion. We have an invasion of millions and millions of people that are coming into our country. I can't imagine why they think that's a good thing‚” he proclaimed. This mention of the border crisis‚ which was made worse by President Biden’s open borders policies‚ caused Tapper to immediately interrupt the broadcast and kvetch that Trump was being “anti-immigrant” rather than just being anti-illegal immigration: Donald Trump declaring victory with a historically strong showing in the Iowa caucuses. If these numbers hold‚ the biggest victory for a non-incumbent president in the modern era for this contest. A relatively subdued speech as the things go so far. Although‚ here he is‚ right now‚ under my voice. You can hear him repeating his anti-immigrant rhetoric.     Over on MSNBC‚ they refused to air Trump’s comments at all‚ even his comments commending his staff and rivals. “At this point in the evening the projected winner of the Iowa caucuses has just started giving his victory speech‚” Maddow announced while bizarrely avoiding saying Trump’s name. “We will keep an eye on that as it happens. We will let you know if there is any news made in that speech‚ if there is anything noteworthy‚ something substantive and important.” Maddow went on to falsely suggest that MSNBC had high standards for what they chose to air and that Trump’s speech didn’t meet their criteria: The reason I’m saying this is‚ of course‚ there is a reason that we and other news organizations have generally stopped giving an unfiltered‚ live platform to remarks by former President Trump. It is not out of spite‚ it is not a decision that we relish‚ it is a decision that we regularly revisit. And‚ honestly‚ earnestly‚ it is not an easy decision. “But there is a cost to us‚ as a news organization‚ of knowingly broadcasting untrue things. That is a fundamental truth of our business and who we are‚” she lied. “And so‚ his remarks‚ tonight‚ will not air here live. We will monitor them and let you know about any news that he makes.” The transcript is below. Alex Wagner Joins MSNBC’s Bashing Of Evangelical Trump Voters

Alex Wagner Joins MSNBC’s Bashing Of Evangelical Trump Voters

A common theme of MSNBC’s coverage of the Iowa caucuses was the network’s overall contempt for these voters who are largely out of their demographic. Evangelical voters‚ in particular‚ were singled out for scorn. Watch as Alex Wagner practically calls evangelical Trump supporters a cult‚ and suggests that they are not attracted to anything attributable to former President Donald Trump as virtue‚ but to his “vice”:  ALEX WAGNER: Steve was pointing at the evangelical vote‚ which I've been fascinated by in recent weeks because the number of really esteemed reporters have been talking about the way in which the Trump coalition‚ the MAGA coalition‚ has absolutely just devoured the evangelical coalition. Iowa is kind of a case study in that. Michelle Goldberg talks about that‚ Tim Alberta’s new book talks about it‚ David French has talked about this phenomenon‚ and if you look at those entry polls‚ you know‚ as Steve points out‚ 55% of white born-again or evangelicals are going for Trump. That is an exponential increase from 2016. Do you consider yourself part of the MAGA movement‚ 78% going for Trump‚ that's not hugely surprising. But the overlap there‚ I think‚ is what‚ I mean‚ is so remarkable about this moment in American politics‚ right? Bob Vander Plaats‚ who is a kingmaker in Iowa politics‚ an evangelical‚ and very much a mouthpiece for the evangelical vote in Iowa‚ endorses Ron Desantis. It clearly does not matter. Evangelical America is behind Donald Trump. And that sort of gets to the roots of what Trumpism is now. You know‚ we were told in 2016 that evangelicals made their beds with Trump because they wanted to have a Supreme Court that was modeled- an evangelically conservative model. Well‚ they got that. But it seems like their affiliation with Trump and MAGA-ism runs deeper than that. And you know‚ David French has articulated this point beautifully. It’s- it’s- the Trumpism in some way has become religion for a certain section of the American electorate-- and especially for evangelicals. That it's not about the virtue anymore. It's about the vice that Trump expresses. And I think you see that playing out in Iowa where the evangelical vote is key. It is central to what is going to unfold tonight. And it is very much a group of people that find that Trump is‚ in some ways‚ a second coming. It's why Trump is taking out ads like the one that came out‚ I think‚ a week ago‚ called “God made Trump”. There is a distinctly religious undertone to his campaigning nationally. And I think you see that playing out in Iowa‚ right? The numbers do not lie‚ Rachel. And I find it really a spectacularly interesting thing‚ if not a downright curious thing.   Conservative Midwestern evangelicals are the polar opposite of MSNBC’s target demographics: think what was formerly known as the “coalition of the ascendant”‚ and wealthy coastal liberals- the “AWFUL” voting bloc‚ if you will. And MSNBC has no qualms about signaling virtue to their audience by openly displaying their contempt for the kinds of evangelical voters that turned out in Iowa and‚ per results‚ for Trump. Wagner’s contempt was not the brutish‚ racist contempt displayed by Joy Reid. Hers was a more florid contempt‚ couched in woke theology‚ but nonetheless grasping at an understanding of what makes these voters tick.  The basis of such support goes far beyond the Supreme Court‚ but is incomprehensible to MSNBC’s viewers. Wagner’s arguments completely ignore that 8 years ago‚ Hillary Clinton said that “deeply held beliefs would have to change”‚ and that the administration preceding Trump’s literally persecuted Christians- whether as demonstrated via the IRS tax scandal‚ or via the respective lawsuits brought by Hobby Lobby‚ The Little Sisters of the Poor‚ and Masterpiece Cakeshop. Also ignored‚ the current climate of intolerance against persons of faith. The easy thing to do here‚ as Wagner (and Reid) demonstrate‚ is to broadly impugn the motives of persons of faith. Instead they should consider whether individual evangelicals simply decided to compare Trump “not to the Almighty‚ but to the alternative”.
