Glasser Spews Anti-Trump Bitterness, ‘Campaign of Lies Around Immigration’

Glasser Spews Anti-Trump Bitterness, ‘Campaign of Lies Around Immigration’

On the post-election edition of PBS’s Friday political roundtable, Washington Week with The Atlantic, Susan Glasser of The New Yorker delivered the bitter highlights, covering the same ground as she did in her New Yorker article, “Donald Trump’s Revenge -- The former President will return to the White House older, less inhibited, and far more dangerous than ever before.”     Having started this meltdown on election night, she took to the airwaves and made sure to sound like the sort of journalist who needs a regular spot in the rotation on a tax-funded political broadcast (click "expand"): GLASSER: But [the Trump campaign] also had a strategy of telling monumental amounts of untruths and lies. And I do think it's very important if we're going to talk about immigration to talk about the Trump campaign's campaign of lies around immigration. Do you believe that we are under an invasion? Do you believe that they're eating the dogs in Springfield? You know, this is also, I think, a story about propaganda and its enormous effectiveness. JEFFREY GOLDBERG: So, what lesson do you derive from that, about the media or about -- GLASSER: Propaganda is very effective, Jeff -- GOLDBERG: -- well. GLASSER: -- unfortunately. That's one of the important lessons for I think all Americans of the last eight years and watching Trump's persistent hold over millions of people. Donald Trump lied, as we all know, about the results of the last election in 2020. And he wasn't just isolated and made a pariah for doing that. In fact, millions of people chose to believe his untruth over truth. Glasser even got a little heated in an exchange with fellow journalist Asma Khalid or NPR, who noted that Trump shockingly won the Arab-dominated city of Dearborn, Michigan and explained how he did it: [D]uring the first few days of his administration, issued a ban on Muslim-majority countries, but you look at a number of Muslim, Arab-American voters, they moved away from Kamala Harris this election cycle. You look at a city like in Dearborn, Michigan and Trump, according the results, it looks like won Dearborn, Michigan. I mean, that is astounding, but he showed up, and I heard this from voters this cycle. He would take pictures. He promised to end the war in the Middle East. And there'd be like, you know, little images of him circulating on WhatsApp chats kissing a little kid at a restaurant in Dearborn. And that went viral in communities, where people wanted to hear that someone was showing up and someone was listening. She then added that Trump "showed up in a lot of different communities," but this didn't sit well at all with Glasser, who then lectured the Arab-American community in Michigan for voting the wrong way: But what are you seeing? I mean, I’m a little confused though. Like, what are -- what are you seeing? So, because people like Donald Trump kissing babies, that it's -- it makes sense for them to vote for the guy who handed American policy toward Israel over to Prime Minister Netanyahu, who refused, who cut off all U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority? Khalid again noted the simple reality from Arab-Americans that they felt Trump was there and Harris wasn’t: "I had people in the community asking me, like, 'where are -- where is the Harris campaign? What are they doing?' Right! And -- but Trump was going there. His -- Tiffany Trump -- his daughter's father-in-law meeting people, and they're promising to end the war." Even Goldberg admitted she was right, leaving Glasser to tag-team with The Atlantic's Helen Lewis to blame Elon Musk and alternative media for making Trump voters less sophiscated than those who read, say, The New Yorker or The Atlantic (click "expand"): GOLDBERG: I don't mean to put a pith helmet on you and, you know, you’re — you’re — you’re — you’re hacking your way through the American jungle or something. LEWIS: Yeah. GOLDBERG: But — but — but does this make sense? How does this make sense? Now — I mean is this the triumph of propaganda and populism and the man-o-sphere? How — I’m not asking you to bring coherence in the one minute and 47 seconds, but bring a little coherence to this. LEWIS: But propaganda is an interesting word because, if you think about the media people consume online, they are listening to podcasters who, for example, in the middle of that Logan Paul interview with Trump, he breaks off to sell his energy drink, right? GOLDBERG: Right. LEWIS: They listen to — GOLDBERG: While Trump is sitting there. LEWIS: Yeah. And — and — GOLDBERG: It’s amazing. LEWIS: — Anson Ross, the cyberstreamer, gave him a custom-cybertruck before doing the interview. This is not stuff that happens in classic journalism, but it references the fact that for the younger people that are used to listening to TikTok, Instagram, other things, they are used to people talking to them face-to-face and being open about their political views and trying to sell them things. And so, I don't think necessarily those news consumers have the same idea about propaganda that we do. They think we are all sitting here with a secret agenda, but what's more honest as people who go, yeah, I’m for Trump. GLASSER: So, like Elon Musk, who is the world’s richest man, who purchased a social media platform, decided to endorse Donald Trump, and amplified his lies and conspiracy theories and misinformation as part of it, in addition to giving more than a hundred million dollars to the Trump — Near the end, journalist Tim Alberta turned the tables on the conventional wisdom, and contradicted Glasser by noting the Democrats have spread their own disinformation on three massive issues: As someone who has spilled a lot of ink on Donald Trump's lies over the past decade..a couple of books worth, I want to say this, when we talk about propaganda, arguably, the three most determinative things in this election were propaganda from the Democratic Party. Number one, “Joe Biden is fine and totally fit to be President for another four years.” He wasn't. Number two, “the border is closed. It's under control. There's nobody coming in.” That was not true. And number three, “hey, don’t worry about inflation, prices are fine, Bidenomics. Everything’s great. You guys don’t know what you’re talking about. Actually, the economy is in great shape.” This is propaganda to millions of Americans who said none of that is true, and therefore, I don't trust you. hey might not trust Trump, but they don't trust Democrats either. In other words, for Glasser, Harris’s loss was everyone else's fault but her own.

Daniel Penny on trial: Witnesses say they were frightened of Jordan Neely

The trial against Marine Corps veteran Daniel Penny is under way, bringing new information to the public about the incident involving Jordan Neely on a New York City subway car last year.Witnesses for the prosecution have sounded more like they were brought to the court by Penny's defense team, as they testified on the stand that they were scared of Neely's rants and threats of violence while they were all trapped on the subway together. Lori Sitro testified that she used a stroller to barricade her 5-year-old from a “belligerent and unhinged” Neely, the New York Post reported.Sitro, a longtime subway rider, said, “No, I did not feel safe when he was moving around erratically. I’ve taken the subway for 30 years, and I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen a lot of unstable people. This felt different to me."'I definitely believe in justice for my nephew, and I think that will occur.'Another witness, Alethea Gittings, said she “was scared s**tless” when Neely screamed, “I don’t give a damn. I will kill a motherf***er.” She also thanked Penny for intervening by putting him in a chokehold."I think this guy was on drugs," Gittings said of Neely. "You know, because when he came in, he was unbelievably off the charts. He scared the living daylights out of everybody."Notably, Gittings told officers on the day of the incident that Penny did not appear to have Neely in a tight chokehold, just tight "enough to secure him.""The guy in the tan did take him down, like, very respectfully and just, like, held. He just held him. Yeah, yeah, he just held him. He didn't choke him," Gittings said in the body-camera footage.Testimony also revealed that Penny asked Gittings to provide a statement to police after the incident, which she did. When asked during cross-examination whether Penny told Gittings what to say to the officers, Gittings said he "never" did.Perhaps the most shocking revelation to come from the trial so far is that New York City police body-camera footage confirms that Neely, while unconscious, was still alive by the time officers responded and Penny had released him from the chokehold. Such evidence casts doubt on the legitimacy of the charges against Penny."I definitely believe in justice for my nephew, and I think that will occur," Neely's uncle, Christopher Neely, said, according to WABC.Penny's trial will resume on Tuesday, after adjourning Monday in observance of Veterans Day. If convicted of manslaughter, Penny faces 15 years in prison.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

'They're eating the dawgs': From Wayne Gretzky to college football, the sports world goes crazy for Trump

The sports world has exploded with support for President Donald Trump since his re-election, with several athletes publicly showing that they back the president.Perhaps his most famous supporter from the sports world was revealed on election night. Many fans rejoiced and others groaned when the "The Great One," Wayne Gretzky, was spotted in pictures during an election party last week at Mar-a-Lago. Not only was Gretzky in attendance, he sported the increasingly popular white "Make America Great Again" hat with gold letters.Gretzky's daughter, Paulina, also posted a family photo from the Trump resort. The photo included her parents, brother Trevor, and her husband, professional golfer Dustin Johnson.Trump has also had a major impact in football, where his popular dance has quickly become the go-to celebration for many players.Specifically, noted supporter and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa showed his moves after a sack against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers en route to a 23-20 win. For the dance, Bosa was joined by his a pair of his teammates: defensive linemen Sam Okuayinonu and Leonard Floyd."Nick Bosa hit the Donald Trump dance after a sack," a reporter wrote as the caption for the video. As the footage circulated the internet, Trump himself noted on his Truth Social platform, "NICK BOSA IS A GREAT PLAYER!"A little over a week before the presidential election, Bosa wore a MAGA hat during a postgame interview on the field. Although the interview-bomb lasted just a few seconds, the NFL fined him over $11,000 for violating the league's rules on political messaging. The Trump celebrations didn't stop with Bosa, however. 'They're eating the dawgs.'Over at Drake university, receiver Trey Radocha performed a professional-tier rendition of the Trump dance after a touchdown against St. Thomas on Saturday. Drake won 22-19.Northern Illinois University's Tristen Tewes somersaulted his way into the end zone before doing the Trump dance during a 42-28 win over Western Michigan. Then, after the Ole Miss Rebels took down the Georgia Bulldogs 28-10, their social media team celebrated the win with a Trump reference."They're eating the dawgs," Ole Miss wrote, in reference both to Georgia and a statement Trump made at the presidential debate."They're eating the dogs, the people that came in. They're eating the cats," Trump said in reference to police reports in Springfield, Ohio.Honorable mention goes to Michael Taaffe from Texas for his dance during a 49-17 stomping of the Florida Gators. As well, quarterback Katin Houser from the East Carolina University Pirates was credited by some as being the first to do the dance on Saturday during a 49-14 win over Florida Atlantic. The celebrations are sure to keep coming, as the dance moves are getting increased fanfare and eyeballs for some lesser-known schools.Like Blaze News? JD Vance as VP AND Senate majority leader simultaneously? Charlie Kirk says it just might work

Now that Republicans have officially taken control of the Senate, the question is: Who will the party select as the next Senate majority leader? Founder of Turning Point USA Charlie Kirk told Glenn Beck who he thinks might be perfect for the job: Vice President-elect JD Vance. — (@) “John Adams presided over the U.S. Senate as Senate majority leader 200 years ago as vice president of the United States. I think JD Vance should be president of the Senate and become Senate majority leader,” Kirk declared. “I am in love with that,” Glenn said, adding that JD would “be fantastic” in that role. “Senator Mike Lee came up with this. This is a 1 a.m. phone call from Senator Mike Lee last night, and he had me at hello,” said Kirk. “Now, mind you, JD would have to really want it in the sense that it would be a ton of monotonous. You have to sit in the chair and listen to procedure stuff, and he’d have to go to the Senate lunches. However, he would basically be able to be the president of the Senate and set the entire tone of legislative agenda,” he added. If Vance were open to the role, Kirk says he would likely be “[handed] the Senate leadership funds” and he “would get to determine who’s on committees.” “There’s a lot of power in that,” he told Glenn. “This would completely change the game in Washington.” Even though the Constitution names the vice president of the United States as the president of the Senate, “this power has never been exercised, tried, or tested.” Could that change now that Donald Trump is returning to the White House? To hear more of the conversation, watch the clip above. Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling, thought-provoking analysis, and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Political heavyweights partake in pressure campaign for GOP Senate leader

Although most U.S. senators are tight lipped ahead of the vote for Republican leader, many influential figures online are starting to put their thumb on the scale.Republican Sens. John Thune of South Dakota, John Cornyn of Texas, and Rick Scott of Florida are going head-to-head in the race to replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday. As of now, only nine senators have made public endorsements. Despite this uptick in support for Scott, President-elect Donald Trump has not yet endorsed any candidate, and it is unclear if he plans to. Thune has secured the backing of Republican Sens. Steve Daines of Montana, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, and Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. Cornyn has so far gained one endorsement, from Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri. Scott has the largest public backing, with Republican Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Marco Rubio from Florida, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. Unlike his competitors, big players outside of D.C. have also come to bat for Scott. Over the weekend, Scott racked up endorsements from politicos and media personalities like Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Vivek Ramaswamay, and Charlie Kirk. "What the hell is going on in the US Senate?" Carlson asked in a post on X. "Hours after Donald Trump wins the most conclusive mandate in 40 years, Mitch McConnell engineers a coup against his agenda by calling early leadership elections in the senate. Two of the three candidates hate Trump and what he ran on.""One of them, John Cornyn, is an angry liberal whose politics are indistinguishable from Liz Cheney’s," Carlson continued. "The election is Wednesday, it’s by secret ballot, and it will determine whether or not the new administration succeeds. Rick Scott of Florida is the only candidate who agrees with Donald Trump. Call your senator and demand a public endorsement of Rick Scott. Don’t let McConnell get away with it again."Despite this uptick in support for Scott, President-elect Donald Trump has not yet endorsed any candidate, and it is unclear if he plans to. At the same time, Trump has put forth a standard he expects the senators to follow, should they be elected leader. On Sunday, Trump declared that any Republican leader must support recess appointments, which would allow the president to appoint an individual to a federal office without a Senate confirmation. This would greatly reduce the glacial pace of Senate confirmations and strengthen Trump's ability to staff federal offices with candidates of his choosing. That being said, Republicans are fairly insulated from external pressures throughout this process. For one thing, on Tuesday, Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah is set to hold a forum behind closed doors where the three candidates can privately make their pitches to their conference. The morning after, the Republican conference will vote for the GOP leader with secret ballots.Like Blaze News? New AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D stock not expected until 2025, says gaming CPU retailer

There’s bad news for anyone hoping to get their hands on a new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming CPU, as the stock situation doesn’t look as though it’s going to be fixed any time soon. In fact, UK tech retailer Overclockers has decided to be straight-up honest with its customers, admitting that it’s not expecting decent stock of the new processor until next year. We loved this new AMD chip when we benchmarked it in our Ryzen 7 9800X3D review, with its extra clock speed and Zen 5 architecture combining to make a formidable gaming CPU that can also cope with hefty multi-threaded workloads. While the 9800X3D is undoubtedly the best gaming CPU you can buy right now, limited supply means that it’s basically impossible to buy unless you’re willing to hand a silly amount of money to scalpers on eBay.
