Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart unleashed a real headscratcher on Friday’s PBS NewsHour as he took exception to the idea that Democrats are trying to kick Donald Trump off the ballot‚ declaring such claims to be “untrue” and Democrats have “nothing to do with” the efforts. Don’t expect Glenn Kessler to fact-check this one. Host Amna Nawaz led Capehart by reading a quote from the Trump Campaign‚ “They say in a statement from Steven Cheung‚ Mr. Trump's spokesman: ‘We welcome a fair hearing at the Supreme Court.’ They argue this is a bad faith election interfering‚ voter suppressing argument to remove him from the ballot. I'm paraphrasing here. And‚ at the end‚ they say‚ ‘We are confident the fair-minded Supreme Court will unanimously affirm the civil rights of President Trump‚’ basically allowing him to remain on the ballot. Jonathan.”     Capehart thought Nawaz’s paraphrasing was insufficient‚ “The one phrase you left out in your summation in the election interfering‚ voter suppressing‚ Democrat-backed and Biden-led 14th Amendment-abusing decision‚ blah‚ blah‚ blah. I focus on that‚ because that is untrue.” He further added‚ “These challenges are being brought by Republicans in those states challenging his — Trump's ability to be on the Republican primary ballot. This is — this has nothing to do with Democrats. I mean‚ Democrats are surely cheering what's happening‚ but they're not the driving force behind this. And the former president doesn't want to go there‚ doesn't even touch it‚ tries to reverse it‚ and put it on Democrats‚ when the call is coming from within his own party.” Fact check: the four justices who voted to kick Trump off the ballot in Colorado were appointed by Democrats and the lawsuit was brought by the liberal group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Maine’s secretary of state is a Democrat. Democrats in New York are trying to pressure the Board of Elections to disqualify Trump. Meanwhile‚ the liberal group Free Speech for People has tried to keep Trump off the ballot in Michigan‚ Oregon‚ and Minnesota. A Democratic activist in Wisconsin tried to do the same while various California Democrats‚ including the state’s lieutenant governor‚ have tried without success to remove Trump from the ballot. A U.S. fugitive who evaded rape charges by allegedly faking his own death and traveling around the world has finally been extradited from Scotland to Utah. He has previously been seen sitting in a wheelchair with a breathing apparatus over his mouth and nose. Nicholas Rossi‚ whose legal name is Nicholas Alahverdian‚ has been charged with sexually assaulting his former girlfriend in Orem‚ Utah. The alleged incident took place in 2008‚ according to the Associated Press. The 36-year-old has also been accused of domestic violence in Rhode Island.Rossi was reportedly headed for Utah on Friday and set to stand trial in Utah County for felony rape charges‚ according to prosecutor David Leavitt. — (@) Leavitt said that "[t]his is a great day‚" going on to thank his staff for the effort they put in to bring Rossi back to the U.S. to face charges. Blaze News previously reported that Alahverdian was born in Providence‚ Rhode Island‚ in July 1987. During his childhood‚ he spent substantial time in the child welfare system associated with Rhode Island's Department of Children‚ Youth and Families. He allegedly suffered abuse while in the system‚ and he later became a high-profile advocate for department reform. He was known by many politicians in the state.Alahverdian was subsequently adopted by his stepfather‚ David Rossi‚ and took on the Rossi surname. He studied at Sinclair College in Dayton‚ Ohio‚ where he was accused and convicted of sexual imposition and public indecency in 2008.It was not until 2019 that Rossi claimed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. An obituary was published‚ announcing the passing of a man named "Nicholas Alahverdian‚" in February 2020. The obituary suggested that a number of politicians in Rhode Island paid tribute to the man they believed had fought for child welfare reform.In December 2021‚ less than two years after the obituary had been published‚ the DNA of a man who had been admitted into a hospital in Glasgow with COVID matched that of Rossi. However‚ the man in Scotland denied being Rossi‚ insisting that his name was Arthur Knight.Hospital staff immediately recognized Knight after they were shown a photo of Rossi. Knight even had the same tattoos as Rossi. Knight‚ who turned out to be Rossi in disguise‚ was soon arrested and taken into custody in a Scottish jail. Like Blaze News? A former rock musician has reportedly been arrested for first degree murder in the apparent death of his girlfriend. The charges were brought after human remains were discovered in a wooded area in California‚ according to NBC News.Theobald "Theo" Lengyel‚ 54‚ was arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend‚ Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Herrmann‚ 61‚ who hadn't been seen since December 3. The announcement was made on Facebook by the Santa Cruz‚ Capitola police on Tuesday. — (@) The victim's family reported her missing on December 12 to the El Cerrito Police Department‚ but the Capitola Police Department soon took over the investigation. Detectives involved in the case quickly suspected foul play may have been involved‚ designating Lengyel as a primary suspect. The authorities published a separate statement‚ writing: "Based on his actions‚ Theo Lengyel is a person of interest in Alice Hermann’s disappearance and has not cooperated with the police investigation.""In the days following her disappearance‚ Theo Lengyel is known to have travelled by vehicle from El Cerrito‚ CA to Portland‚ OR. A photograph of his vehicle is included in this release."The victim's 2007 Toyota Highlander was last spotted in front of her boyfriend's house in El Cerrito‚ according to the authorities.Lengyel was one of the first members of the band Mr. Bungle‚ a funk-metal outfit. He was known to have played saxophone‚ keyboards‚ and clarinet for the group from 1985 to the mid-1990s‚ according to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle. During the investigation‚ authorities discovered human remains in a wooded area within the Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. While the remains are currently being examined and tested for DNA‚ it is believed that the remains belong to the victim. The police have not yet released information about the cause of death in the case.NBC News reported that Lengyel was eventually arrested without incident and taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail.
