Bill Maher: Kamala Was ‘More Popular’ When She Was Shoved In A Closet

Liberal comedian Bill Maher said that Democrats had no excuses for their resounding losses during this week’s elections and that the party had to take a long look in the mirror to find out what went wrong. Maher made the remarks on his HBO “Real Time” show Friday evening while discussing the outcome of the election with ABC News contributor Sarah Isgur, MSNBC analyst John Heilemann, and actor Michael Douglas. “My message to the losers: losers look in the mirror,” Maher said during his opening monologue as his audience went silent. “No? Well, maybe you should. Well, that’s my feeling. Losers look in the mirror.” “For months Democrats have been saying, ‘How is this even close?’ and they’re right, it wasn’t,” Maher said. He added, “This country has had enough of the anti-common-sense woke bullshit.” It was so bad on election night that Kamala called McDonald’s to see if she could get her old job back. pic.twitter.com/Fl0YO6Z4tJ — Bill Maher (@billmaher) November 9, 2024 During his panel discussion, Maher pushed back on claims that Vice President Kamala Harris did not have enough time to be known by voters. “It was long enough,” he said. “It’s not that they didn’t have time to introduce — they met someone and they didn’t like ’em.” Heilemann claimed that the problem was that Harris had been “basically shoved in a broom closet for three-and-a-half years.” “I know, she was more popular in there,” Maher quipped. “This idea that in a mass media age that 107 days is not long enough to know somebody?” “It’s ridiculous!” Maher exclaimed, noting that people got “sicker” of Harris the more they got to know of her. “Why do you have to make all these excuses for her?” Maher asked. “All it was this week was people who say ‘Oh, she ran a flawless campaign.’ How ridiculous. Or ‘It’s sexism. It’s racism.’ This is an old playbook!”

AI Detected Her Early Breast Cancer After Annual Test Came Back as Normal: ‘I feel so lucky’

Artificial intelligence successfully detected a woman’s breast cancer, after a routine scan evaluated by humans came back as ‘normal’. Sheila Tooth was given the all-clear after her most recent mammogram was examined by two experienced radiologists who determined that there were no signs of cancer. However, University Hospitals Sussex, where she had her appointment, was […] The post AI Detected Her Early Breast Cancer After Annual Test Came Back as Normal: ‘I feel so lucky’ appeared first on Good News Network.

Astronomers Discover the Origin of Mysterious Space Signals

Scientists still don’t fully understand how fast radio bursts (FRBs) are generated, but a new research sheds light on the possible origins of these mysterious signals that seem to arrive from every corner of the cosmos. Published in Nature, the study offers new insights into these elusive radio pulses. FRBs, short bursts of electromagnetic radiation detectable in radio waves, have long puzzled astronomers. These signals typically have an average frequency of around 1400 MHz and flicker into existence for only fractions of a second, making them some of the most enigmatic signals the universe produces. Sources of FRBs are known to be located millions, even billions, of light-years from Earth. One prominent theory attributes FRBs to magnetars—neutron stars with the universe’s most intense magnetic fields. Scientists believe that interactions between a magnetar’s magnetic field and gravitational forces can cause “starquakes,” potentially resulting in FRBs. However, not all FRBs behave in the same way, suggesting other mechanisms might be at play. By analyzing galaxies where FRBs have been detected, the study’s authors have identified environmental conditions that seem favorable to their formation. The study reveals that FRBs typically originate in galaxies rich in young stars and possessing exceptionally high mass—a combination rarely observed. Young stars, which are often massive, tend to have short lifespans and eventually explode as supernovae, leaving behind neutron stars, including magnetars. This evidence suggests that star-forming regions with abundant young stars may foster the creation of FRB sources. The study also points to the importance of a galaxy’s metallicity—the abundance of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. Massive galaxies generally contain higher levels of these elements, referred to as “metals” in astronomy. This high metal content supports the formation of massive stars, which can later become magnetars or other neutron stars that could be linked to FRBs. Yet, scientists note that supernova events occur in galaxies at a rate similar to star formation, and if magnetars from supernovae were the main source of FRBs, we would expect the distribution of FRBs to match that of supernovae. Since this is not the case, it suggests that supernova-formed magnetars may not be the primary origin of FRBs. Alternatively, magnetars capable of producing FRBs may form through the merger of binary star systems, a scenario that could occur in galaxies dense with massive stars. Although this study does not definitively pinpoint the source of FRBs, it supports the magnetar hypothesis and highlights how specific galactic environments may be crucial in generating these bursts. People keep quoting this Bible verse — but do they know what it actually means?

Some people love the verse, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). It’s on bracelets and bumper stickers. It’s on coffee mugs and wall art. Believers have often taken comfort from those words in Psalm 46. After all, God is the great rescuer, the ever-faithful provider, for his people.Have you ever considered, though, that we might not be thinking of the right primary audience for those words in Psalm 46:10? What if the command — “Be still, and know that I am God” — isn’t spoken to believers?Context and echoesThe opening line of Psalm 46 is a declaration that God is the refuge and strength for his people, a “very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). He’s the fortress, the high tower, the cleft in the rock. He’s the protector, the shield, the defender. Though circumstances are uncertain (46:2–3), and though nations rage (46:6), the people of God are stable and secure (46:1, 5).The nations are not well. In Psalm 46:6, they “rage” and they “totter.” They’re unstable. The raging nations recall the scene in Psalm 2, where the nations “rage” and “plot in vain” against the Lord (Psalm 2:1–2). They rage like the dragon whom they serve (Revelation 12).According to Psalm 2, what the nations needed to do was serve the Lord (Psalm 2:11). The kings needed to bow the knee and kiss the son (2:10, 12). The raging of the nations would not prevail over the Lord’s plan to install and exalt the one true king (2:4–6). This great king would inherit the nations (2:8).When we read Psalm 46, we need to hear these echoes of Psalm 2. These rebels should confess the truth of God’s unique and supreme existence and rule. There is no god like God and no god but God.In the context of Psalm 46, there is upheaval all around. The cosmic chaos in 46:2–3 may figuratively depict the military and political threats that the people of God were facing. The saints needed reassurance that earthly kingdoms would fall. The self-glory of this world’s rulers would fade under the bright light of divine glory, which the world’s true king would shine and embody. The people, and the city where the people dwelled, was secure because of the presence and power of God (Psalm 46:5, 7).The primary audienceThe final unit of Psalm 46 is 46:8–11. Let’s follow the logic of the verses. In verse 8, we’re told to behold God’s works, which include desolations that he brings onto the earth. His judgments disrupt and overthrow the plans of his enemies. In verse 9, he breaks their bows and shatters their spears and burns their chariots. So much for their impressive weaponry! God’s supremacy is on display, and their human collusion and earthly strategies are a poor effort to undermine divine majesty. In verse 10, God says, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Now, who is God talking to? He is talking to his enemies. The raging nations are the primary audience of these words. These nations have tottered in their frailty, but that fact hasn’t stopped them from hating the reality of God’s rule.So God says to the rebels, “Be still.” It’s a command to stop what they’re doing. It’s a command to lay down their broken weapons. It’s a command to relax their grips and their arms. They should stop their rebellion, their resistance — and they should, “Know that I am God.” These rebels should confess the truth of God’s unique and supreme existence and rule. There is no god like God and no god but God.The rest of verse 10 is God’s declaration that he will be exalted among these nations. Though enemies on earth oppose him, he will be exalted in the earth nevertheless!Psalm 46:10 gives us the words of God to the enemies of God: “Be still, and know that I am God.” The nations should call upon the Lord for mercy, and he will receive them. They should cease their raging and their rebellion. They should rejoice in his provision of salvation for them, for Christ has redeemed a people for himself from every tribe and tongue and nation. This essay was originally published at Dr. Mitchell Chase's Substack, Biblical Theology.
