Starr County has a population of approximately 66,000, with 97 percent Hispanic residents. According to KCBD, Trump defeated Harris in Starr County with 57.7% of the vote. In comparison, Hillary Clinton won 79% in 2016. Starr County has not elected a Republican presidential candidate since 1892, formerly the longest Democratic voting streak of any county in the nation. President William McKinley won that election and a re-match in 1900. Starr County is west of Hidalgo County, which has a population of about 870,000, including McAllen.
