MSNBC host Rachel Maddow gave some post-election analysis which indicated that she believes Americans have rejected democracy because they did not select her preferred presidential candidate. “If this was an election that was not just a choice between two candidates, but a choice between keeping the American system of government or trading it in for a strong man authoritarian system instead, then the decisive result of this election gives us, not just an answer to the question as to what Americans want to do along those lines, it also gives us a really big to-do list as Americans,” she said. Maddow continued, “We now are just another one in the list of countries that has decided to, you know — ‘Hey, what the heck? Let’s try the strong man thing. Let’s let democracy go. Let’s put in an all-powerful guy instead. See how it goes.’”  She went on to say other countries govern this way, and now America will too. Maddow recommended that liberals – who she refers to as the half of the country who “want to keep our democracy” – should be “scrappy as hell” and function as a “thorn in the side to anyone who intends to turn this country into some tin pot tyranny.” “The U.S. military needs to give the American people binding assurances that they will not deploy U.S. military force against the civilian population in this country. They can give those assurances, and now they should,” Maddow added. “The free press needs to give the people of this country assurances that they will not become state TV. That they will stand and fight together. They will put aside rivalries and petty professional differences.” MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ The MSNBC host ranted that the Constitution would come under attack with Republicans in charge, which Democrats should “actively resist.”   Maddow recommends her followers should resist by joining other community members to create a “strong civil society,” which would help keep these power-hungry totalitarians at bay.  “Hope you are feeling scrappy,” Maddow told her audience. “Hope you are tapping into your inner pirate energy, because it is one thing to be a defender of the realm. It is another thing to be in opposition. And opposition can be a lot of things. It can be dangerous, but can also be fun. Would have been nice to win the election. Didn’t? Okay? Time to save the country,” she concluded.

Late-night host Stephen Colbert ditched his usual comedy on Wednesday night, opting for a subdued and slightly depressing monologue — which he said was aimed at letting his audience know that if they were upset about the results of Tuesday’s presidential election, they were not alone. Colbert, apparently banking on none of his audience members having voted for former President Donald Trump, opened the show by saying, “Hey there, how are you doing? If you watch this show regularly, I’m guessing you’re not doing great. Yeah, me neither.” WATCH; “The Late Show” host began by promising to eventually get to the jokes but said that he first wanted to let his audience know that he was feeling the same things that they were. He also thanked them for being there, noting that he didn’t want to be alone either. You guys ready?” Colbert did eventually pivot to the comedy, at which point he immediately began to attack Trump: “Who knows what the next four years are going to be like. What we do know is that we are going to be governed by a monstrous child surrounded by cowards and grifters.”

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough expressed shock on Thursday when he learned how expensive the cost of butter was for many Americans, prompting him to ask if it was wrapped in gold. The moment came on the network’s “Morning Joe” show with his wife, co-host Mika Brzezinski, as they discussed why President-elect Donald Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris. “I want to talk about the economy for a second,” he said. “A few weeks ago, three weeks ago, somebody who was going to be voting for Kamala Harris came up to me and said, ‘Oh my god, Trump’s going to win.’ I go, ‘Why is that?’ He goes, ‘I just, I went to the grocery store, butter is over $3.'” “I kind of laughed and I said, ‘Well, that’s kind of reductive, isn’t it?’ I said it to myself,” he continued. “To him, I smiled, and I said, ‘Good point.’ But it actually, everything we’re hearing after the election is–” Brzezinski then interrupted and pointed out that butter actually costs $7, not $3. What, is it framed in gold?” “Okay, well, yeah, okay, well, anyway, my point is this, the rent is too damn high, and this guy was saying the cost of butter is way damn too high,” he said. “And so I thought it was a bit reductive.” “It ended up being just the point, that if you look at the cost of groceries, if you look at the cost of gas, if you look at the cost of things compared to four years ago, it was a very simple answer for working-class Americans: things just cost too much,” he added.
