Former President Donald J. Trump is projected to win the swing state of Wisconsin, securing the state’s 10 Electoral College votes, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ. The race was called for Trump with 95% of the vote in as he led Vice President Kamala Harris 51.4% to 47.2%. Trump has now secured more than 270 votes in the Electoral College. In 2020, Biden won Wisconsin by 0.8 points over former President Donald Trump, a much closer race than was anticipated after polling showed Biden up by a significant margin heading into Election Day. There is no automatic recount in the state, but candidates may request one if they are down by 1.0 percentage points or less. Wisconsin has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of spending on political advertisements this election cycle, going from $209 million in 2020 to $637 million in 2024. This cycle, Republicans have spent $263 million, while Democrats have spent $361 million for all political races in the state. For the 2024 presidential race in the state, Democrats outspent Republicans $145 million to $96 million.

President-elect Donald Trump asserted that American voters have “given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate” with his election to a second term.  Trump took the stage for a victory speech in front of supporters just before 2:30 a.m. after the 45th president defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.  “Frankly I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time there’s never been anything like it in this country,” Trump told supporters.  He added, “Now we’re going to help our country heal.”  “We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said, seemingly an allusion to the legal indictments against him at the federal level, and by state prosecutors in New York and Georgia.  He later added, “Look what happened. Is this crazy?” Trump later made a reference to the two assassination attempts against him.  “We are going to make our country better than it has ever been,” Trump said. “Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason. That reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness. And now we’re going to fulfill that mission together.” “The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit, and fight that I have in my soul to the job that you’ve entrusted to me,” he added. Trump was expected to win the popular vote as well, for the first time.  Fox News also projected Trump to be the winner. “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump said. “We have taken back control of the Senate.” After a surprise win in 2016 against Democrat Hillary Clinton, Trump lost in 2020 to Democrat Joe Biden. With this victory, Trump is the first president since Democrat Grover Cleveland to be elected to two non-consecutive terms.  Trump invited his vice presidential pick, Sen. Republican challenger Nick Begich was leading incumbent Democrat Mary Peltola in the race for Alaska’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives by a margin of 50.1% to 44.8% in unofficial results. About 59% of the vote had been counted at 3:30 a.m. ET Wednesday. The Alaska race attracted over $40 million in contributions, making it one of the most expensive congressional races in the country’s history.  In 2022, Peltola had defeated both Begich and former Gov. Sarah Palin to win a special election for the seat after the death of Rep. He was part of the Alaska Policy Forum from 2018 to 2021.  “We must tell Alaska’s story in Congress, highlighting our state’s unique contributions and needs,” Begich said in a position statement. “Together, we can achieve the promise of ‘North to the Future,’ securing a stronger, more prosperous path for Alaska.”  Begich received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baylor University and an MBA from Indiana University.  “I oppose the national policies that have fueled inflation and allowed mass illegal migration,” Begich said in the position statement. “We need strong leadership to restore our economy and secure our borders for the well-being of every American. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, as they were waiting for the election workers in the so-called “blue wall” to tell them what they already knew, CNN’s Van Jones blamed sexism and racism for why Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President-elect Trump. “I am thinking about the people who are not a part of anybody's elite, who are hurting tonight,” he bloviated.     Speaking as though he was delivering a sermon, Jones opined about how this election supposedly told black women that America rejected them, how they hoped Harris would essentially liberate them, and lamented how their hard work didn’t pay off: There are African-American women who know a little bit about being talked down to. They know a little bit about having their economic dreams crushed. Who tried to dream a big dream over the past couple of months. And tonight, they’re trading in a lot of hope for a lot of hurt. And they were hoping that maybe this time, this time, one of their own could be seen as worthy. And, once again, they are facing rejection and that hurts. They thought tomorrow morning they are going to walk out with their shoulders back a little bit. Maybe be able to breathe for the first time and feel like they belong someplace. They did everything they knew how to do. And it’s going to be harder than it should be tomorrow for them to hold their heads up. He went on to warn that, “they're not the only people who are hurting tonight.” “If you are a parent of a trans kid, your child's face was used as a springboard to power for somebody. That doesn't feel good,” he said. “There are going to be people tomorrow who are going to be handing clothes at the dryers to people who don't have papers. There are people who are going to be cleaning your teeth tomorrow who don't have papers. And they are terrified tonight.” He proceeded to whine: “It’s people who woke up this morning with a dream and are going to bed with a nightmare.
