‘I’m Scared Sh–less.’ Why Women’s March Protesters Say They ‘Won’t Go Back’

“We can’t go back to Donald Trump,” Julie Drizin told The Daily Signal on Saturday at the “We Won’t Go Back”-themed Women’s March in Washington, D.C.  Sporting a “RESIST” pin on her right side, a “FEMINIST AF” and transgender flag pin on her right side, and holding a Trump baby balloon, Drizin added, “We can’t go back to a world where abortion is not freely available to any women without apology.”   Drizin, a 61-year-old from Silver Spring, Maryland, joined several thousand other women to participate in Saturday’s march, and was open about her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee running against former President Trump. “I think having a black, BIPOC president again, but a woman, is going to make a huge difference on all of our rights,” she said.   Asked if she is confident Harris can win, Drizin said she is “scared sh–less. I’m really just scared sh–less, you know. I wanted Hillary Clinton to win,” she said, describing Clinton’s loss to Trump in 2016 as “tragic.”   “I won’t breathe easy or sleep well until this election is over and unless we win,” she said.   Many of the women, such as Linda Nester, said they were marching for their daughters. Nester, 58, traveled to D.C. from Washington state for the Women’s March because she wants her daughter “to be able to get an abortion if she wants to.”  Linda Nester traveled to D.C. from Washington state for the Women’s March because she wants her daughter “to be able to get an abortion if she wants to.”Nester participated in the “We Won’t Go Back” march Saturday and praised Kamala Harris for remaining “positive” in a… pic.twitter.com/zfJ3ImMD43— The Daily Signal (@DailySignal) November 2, 2024 Melinda Lewis said she traveled to D.C. from Irving, Texas, for the ‘We Won’t Go Back’ march because she wants her granddaughter to grow up with “the same rights” she had.   “I think we should have the right to have an abortion if it’s medically necessary,” Lewis, 71, said.   Asked what rights she has enjoyed under the Biden-Harris administration that she didn’t under the Trump administration, Lewis said, “I don’t know that I can answer that, honestly.” “I am totally for Harris,” she continued, “because I believe that Trump is only for himself and his billionaire friends. I think he is a danger to our society, and I am hoping that we still have, after next week, a country left.”   Dressed as suffragettes, mother and daughter Kim and Alex Swords said they marched in honor of the women who fought for the rights of women.   “We don’t want to go back to what was going on back in the 1800s and anytime, I mean, we don’t want to go back a step,” Kim Swords, a 69-year-old resident of Fairfax, Virginia, said. “We want to save all of women’s rights, we want to save all constitutional rights, and we want to bring that to the attention of everyone that the only way to do that is to vote democratic, not just for Kamala, which is great, but all the way down the ticket.”   We asked demonstrators at the Women’s March’s “We Won’t Go Back” rally in D.C. today what they don’t want to go back to. Here was one answer:“We don’t want to go back to what was going on back in the 1800s”The suffragette impersonator says that in order to “save all women’s… pic.twitter.com/KeOpUSST1z— The Daily Signal (@DailySignal) November 2, 2024 Many marchers held homemade signs expressing their dislike of Trump or their support of certain political issues.   About 67 million Americans have cast their vote in the 2024 presidential election so far. Dem-heavy counties in Georgia engage in election shenanigans over weekend, prompting RNC lawsuit

Blue counties in and around Atlanta, Georgia, are apparently engaging in some election shenanigans this weekend that may run afoul of state law, prompting the RNC to file yet another election integrity lawsuit.According to a Saturday morning X post from RNC chairman Michael Whatley, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, and Gwinnett Counties will permit voters to drop off absentee ballots at designated polling locations this weekend. Whatley added that extending hours for ballot drop-offs "disregards the law."'The Secretary of State has issued guidance to allow Republican poll watchers in but local officials REFUSE.'Indeed, Georgia Code § 21-2-385, passed during the 2023-2024 legislative session, says that early voting in Georgia will begin "on the fourth Monday immediately prior to each primary or election" and "end on the Friday immediately prior to each primary, election, or runoff" (emphasis added). In 2024, that end point should have been November 1.Furthermore, Ga. Code § 21-2-382 adds that "all drop boxes shall be closed when the advance voting period ends."Nevertheless, a report from local PBS and NPR affiliate WABE confirmed that "metro Atlanta residents who live in Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb or Gwinnett counties can drop off their absentee ballots over the weekend and on Monday, Nov. 4, the day before Election Day, at their local election offices."What's worse, there initially may not have been official oversight of some of these drop-off locations. A photo of an email apparently written by Kathryn Glenn, the registration manager of the Department of Registration & Elections in Fulton County, and apparently sent to dozens of office employees indicates that no poll watchers had been authorized."FYI - There are NO WATCHERS approved for ballot drop off! Do not let them in the building," Glenn wrote, according to the photo. "If they want to observe from the parking lot, you can't stop that," her email apparently continued, "but they are not allowed to sit in the building. Have your security detail enforce it!!!"As a result, the RNC has already filed a lawsuit, Whatley claimed. As of Saturday afternoon, it remains "pending," he said.Josh McKoon, the leader of the Georgia Republican Party and a former state senator, called these latest moves from Democrat-area election officials a "blatant violation" of Georgian election law."We all know what is going on — Democrats are panicked by the incredible Republican turnout in early voting and will do anything to try to catch up even if it means doing it under the cover of darkness and stiff arming any independent observation of whatever the hell is going on in their four 'special voting locations' open today with no notice or approval by anyone authorized to oversee elections administration," McKoon tweeted on Saturday morning.McKoon tweeted Saturday afternoon that poll watchers had finally been permitted on the premises."Fulton County and other counties are now allowing our poll watchers to observe the voting activity occurring" on Saturday, he wrote. He attributed the change to a pressure campaign from Republican leaders at the state and national levels."While we should not have to alert the public to have Georgia law enforced, I am pleased that lawful observation is now occurring."Blaze News reached out to Kathryn Glenn and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) for comment but did not receive a response. This is a developing story. Voyager 1 is Forced to Rely on its Low Power Radio

Voyager 1 is Forced to Rely on its Low Power Radio

Voyager 1 was launched waaaaaay back in 1977. I would have been 4 years old then! It’s an incredible achievement that technology that was built THAT long ago is still working. Yet here we are in 2024, Voyager 1 and 2 are getting older. Earlier this week, NASA had to turn off one of the radio transmitters on Voyager 1. This forced communication to rely upon the low-power radio. Alas technology around 50 years old does sometimes glitch and this was the result of a command to turn on a heater. The result was that Voyager 1 tripped into fault protection mode and switch communications! Oops.  Voyager 1 is a NASA space probe launched on September 5, 1977, as part of the Voyager program to study the outer planets and beyond. Initially, Voyager 1’s mission focused on flybys of Jupiter and Saturn, capturing incredible images before traveling outward. In 2012, it became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, crossing the heliopause—the boundary between the influence of the Sun and interstellar space. It now continues to  to send data back to Earth from over 22 billion km  away, helping scientists learn about the interstellar medium. There is also a “Golden Record” onboard which contains sounds and images of life on Earth, Voyager 1 serves as a time capsule, intended to articulate the story of our world to any alien civilizations that may encounter it. The Ringed Planet Saturn Just a few days ago on 24 October, NASA had to reconnect to Voyager 1 on its outward journey because one of its radio transmitters had been turned off! Alien intervention perhaps! Exciting though that would be, alas not.  The transmitter seems to have been turned off as a result of one of the spacecraft fault protection systems. Any time there is an issue with onboard systems the computer will flip the systems into protection mode to protect any further damage. If the spacecraft draws too much power from the batteries, the same system will turn off less critical systems to conserve power. When the fault protection system kicks in, it’s then the job of engineers on the ground fixing the fault. Artist rendition of Voyager 1 entering interstellar space. (Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech) There are challenges here though. Due to the immense distance to Voyager 1, now about 24 billion km away, any communications to or from takes almost 23 hours to arrive. A request for data for example means a delay of 46 hours before the request arrives and the data returned! Undaunted, the team sent commands to Voyager 1 on the 16 October to turn on a heater but, whilst the probe should have had enough power, the command triggered the system to turn off a radio transmitter to conserve power. This was discovered on 18 October when the Deep Space Network was no longer able to detect the usual ping from the spacecraft.  The engineers correctly identified the likely cause of the problem and found Voyager pinging away on a different frequency using the alternate radio transmitte. This one hadn’t been used since the early 19080’s! With the fault identified, the team did not switch immediately back to the original transmitter just yet in case the fault triggered again. Instead, they are now working to understand the fault before switching back.  Until then, Voyager 1 will continue to communicate with Earth using the lower power transmitter as it continues its exploration out into interstellar space.  Source : After Pause, NASA’s Voyager 1 Communicating With Mission Team The post Voyager 1 is Forced to Rely on its Low Power Radio appeared first on Universe Today.
