It was 1969 that humans first set foot on the Moon. Back then, the Apollo mission was the focus of the attempts to land on the Moon but now, over 50 years on, it looks like we are set to head back. The Artemis project is the program that hopes to take us back to the Moon again and it’s going from strength to strength. The plan is to get humans back on the Moon by 2025 as part of Artemis III. As a prelude to this, NASA is now turning its attention to the possible landing sites.  The Artemis Project is NASA’s program aimed at returning humans to the Moon and establishing a permanent base there. Ultimately with a view to paving the way for missions to Mars. With the first launch in 2017, Artemis intends to land “the first woman and the next man” on the lunar surface by 2025.  The program began with Artemis I and an uncrewed mission which orbited the Moon. Arte is II will take astronauts on an orbit of the Moon and finally Artemis III will land humans back on the Moon by 2025. At the heart of the program is the giant Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion spacecraft.  NASA’s Space Launch System rocket carrying the Orion spacecraft launches on the Artemis I flight test, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, from Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Credit: NASA/Joel Kowsky. As the plans ramp up for the first crewed landing, NASA are now analysing possible landing sites and have identified nine potential spots. They are all near the South Pole of the Moon and will provide Artemis III with landing sites near to potentially useful resources. Further investigations will be required to further assess them for their suitability.  The team working upon the analysis is the Cross Agency Site Selection Analysis team and they will work with other science and industry partners. The teams will explore each possible site for science value and suitability for the mission including the availability of water ice. The final list so far, and in no particular order, are; Peak near Cabeus B Haworth Malapert Massif Mons Mouton Plateau Mons Mouton Nobile Rim 1 Nobile Rim 2 de Gerlache Rim 2 Slater Plain The South Polar region was chosen as a region was chosen chiefly because it has water locked up deep in the shadowed craters. The Apollo missions never visited that region of the Moon either so it is a great opportunity for humans to explore this aged region of the lunar surface. To settle on these 9 areas, the team assessed various regions of the south polar region using potential launch window suitability, terrain suitability, communication capability and even lighting levels. The legendary Black Sabbath co-founder and guitarist Tony Iommi said that Hard Rock Café, which owns his famous red 1965 Gibson SG Special guitar, nicknamed 'Monkey,' refuses to sell the guitar back to him. The musician told Guitar World that, at the time, he thought the guitar was too valuable to continue playing and sold it to Hard Rock Café on the condition that he could buy it back if he wanted to. However, the person with whom he made the deal passed away, and now they don’t want to sell it back to him. Tony Iommi says Hard Rock Café refuses to return his guitar “The guy who used to buy memorabilia for the Hard Rock came to England and visited me. He wanted to buy some stuff and I said it should be fine. I’d retired the Monkey SG because it was too valuable to me. I didn’t want to take it on the road and risk it getting damaged." “​​The deal was if I ever wanted it back, I could let him know and buy it back for the same price. It seemed fair enough, a good deal." “Anyway, he passed away, so that was it. We tried to get in touch with Hard Rock to get it back and they knew nothing about the deal,” Tony Iommi said. Although he can’t get his guitar back for the same price anymore, Iommi said that the replicas made by Gibson for him over the decades are practically the same guitar, as they use the same components. That original guitar was used during the recording of classic Sabbath albums. They are "Black Sabbath" (1970), "Paranoid" (1970), "Master of Reality (1971), "Vol. 4" (1972) and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (1973). Tony Iommi is the only member of Sabbath who was part of all the band's line-ups and releases over the decades. Thin Lizzy announced their first studio album in more than 40 years and it will have vocals of the late legendary bassist and singer Phil Lynott, who passed away back in 1986 at the age of 36. Called "Acoustic Sessions", the record has reimagined versions of their classic tracks on acoustic guitar. Besides Lynott's original vocals, the tracks also features Brian Downey's original drum recordings and the guitarist Eric Bell recently recorded new acoustic guitar parts. The unplugged version for their classic take on "Whiskey In The Jar" was already released. The entire album will be out next January 24. About the new project, Eric Bell said: "I remember recording 'Eire' from our debut album 'Thin Lizzy' in 1971. I wrote the main guitar part first on acoustic and then we built it up from there. I played the 12-string acoustic throughout the track and introduced the electric on top." "This was useful in the studio in Belfast recently where we recorded fresh guitar parts to allow us to create new Thin Lizzy acoustic versions of some of our favorite songs by recreating those original acoustic parts and adding the vocals which Philip laid down on the day and those original drum parts which Brian came up with in the original recording sessions," Eric Bell said. It's the first time since Eric Bell's exit from the band in 1973 that he recorded under the Thin Lizzy name.
