When Missouri School Wanted to Rename Their Building, They All Agreed to Honor the Longtime Janitor

A Missouri K-8 school was debating long and hard over what to rename their school. The decision-makers could have picked any number of famous Missouri natives, or perhaps a national figure that would inspire the kids to strive for similar achievement and recognition. But no; in the end they picked the person they all decided […] The post When Missouri School Wanted to Rename Their Building, They All Agreed to Honor the Longtime Janitor appeared first on Good News Network.

Desperate Leftist Media Wildly Distort Trump’s Liz Cheney Comments

Haters of former President Donald Trump are spinning their latest distortion after Trump’s interview Thursday night with commentator Tucker Carlson. Trump’s argument was that he thinks former Rep. Liz Cheney and other neocons are quick to start wars and send other Americans to fight them with no regard for the lives lost. The Kamala Harris campaign and her media allies quickly pounced, claiming that Trump wanted Cheney executed before a firing squad. Cheney quickly reacted and called Trump a “tyrant.”  That’s clearly a deeply dishonest spin and distortion. Trump was plainly talking about combat zones and how terrible it is to be in a combat zone. He was not specifically suggesting anything about Cheney being targeted for a firing squad.  Don’t be fooled. The Left is bordering on an insane level of Orwellian distortion. Here is the context of Trump’s comments: She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, “Oh, gee, we’ll … Let’s send, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.” The Trump campaign issued a statement calling the distortion “The Fake News Media‘s Latest Hoax,” stating: “President Trump was clearly describing a combat zone. Liz Cheney and Kamala Harris, if elected, would continue to plunge the U.S. deeper into war leading to World War 3 and allow innocent men and women to die in that conflict.” There are at least some honest voices calling foul, with some of even the most liberal, anti-Trump voices debunking this nonsense. For example, Never Trumper Joe Walsh, a former GOP congressman: “Trump did NOT call for Liz Cheney to be executed. This is what’s so wrong with our politics today. … This short clip is so deceptive. Trump is NOT calling for Liz Cheney to be executed in front of a firing line. He’s not. Listen to the entirety of what he said. … [H]e’s trying to make a point about Cheney’s stance on war. But Aaron [Rupar] (who I like & respect), by posting ONLY this 11 second clip, makes it look like he’s calling for her to be executed. He’s not.” Trump did NOT call for Liz Cheney to be executed. This is what’s so wrong with our politics today. Look, you know how I feel about Trump, and I’ve been out there every day for 2-3 months campaigning my ass off to help get @KamalaHarris elected, but this short clip is so… https://t.co/MIDckr5CmR— Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) November 1, 2024 Some sanity also from Vox’s Zach Beauchamp: “Folks, Trump didn’t threaten to execute Liz Cheney. He actually was calling her a chicken hawk, something liberals said about her for ages. Look at the context—Trump is talking about giving her a weapon. Typically, people put in front of firing squads aren’t armed.” Folks, Trump didn't threaten to execute Liz Cheney. It began with the collapse of Afghanistan in August 2021. Sadly, now Afghan women are treated as second-class chattel under the Taliban and the United States lost an estimated $80 billion taxpayer investment in equipment and training. Thirteen American service members died in the botched withdrawal, which failed to meet the conditions outlined by the Trump White House.   Russian President Vladimir Putin saw America’s weakness in Afghanistan and felt emboldened to invade Ukraine, causing immense bloodshed and property damage to Ukrainian innocents. Failed Biden-Harris energy policy also strengthened the Russian treasury. Biden-Harris failures continued through its failed Iranian policy, which enabled the release of billions of dollars to a despotic Iranian regime. It used the funds to finance terrorism and killing through proxies in Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen. Now, the Middle East is on fire—a sharp contrast to the Trump administration’s Abraham Accords, which brokered peace between Arabs and Jews. Don’t be distracted by this attempt to wave a shiny object away from the truth: Trump’s record is peace through strength. Harris’ record is incompetence ending in global bloodshed—excused and justified by Cheney and others like her.  Carrie Sheffield is a senior policy analyst at Independent Women’s Voice. EXCLUSIVE: Virginia Schools Secretly Remove LGBTQ Book Amid Explicit Images Controversy

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Public schools in a Northern Virginia county have quietly removed a pro-LGBTQ book after parents criticized it for sexually explicit images, The Daily Signal has learned. Fairfax County Public Schools in the Washington, D.C., suburbs confirmed in emails to parent Stacy Langton that school libraries across the county had removed the book “Queer: A Graphic History,” by Meg-John Barker. “I’m surprised they did this quietly, without notifying me, the public, or the LGBTQ community,” Langton, a 55-year-old mother of two children at Fairfax High School, told The Daily Signal in a statement Wednesday. “I assume it’s because it has become such a politically charged issue, that they did not want to hand me what looks like a victory—especially with only days to go before the presidential election!” She suggested this news may impact the election, where former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, trails Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris by 5.8 points in the RealClearPolitics average. Virginia became ground zero for the debate over parental rights in education during the 2021 gubernatorial election in the Old Dominion. Republican Glenn Youngkin prevailed over the Democratic nominee, former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, after McAuliffe said, “I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions,” adding: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” “Virginia is in play for President Trump,” Langton told The Daily Signal. “We the parents have put up with three years of indoctrination of our children in the schools. The only person who is going to stop Queer Theory and Gender Ideology is Donald Trump, and parental anger in Virginia will help him win here on November 5th, just like Glenn Youngkin won in 2021.” LGBTQ Book Removed Langton had repeatedly condemned “Queer: A Graphic History” as sexually explicit in remarks at School Board meetings. She faulted the book for including a graphic illustration of the sexual practice known as “pegging,” which reverses the traditional male and female sexual roles. She also faulted “Gender Queer: A Memoir” by Maia Kobabe for including similar sexual illustrations (including a fantasy of a sex act between an elderly man and a teenage boy). Langton had filmed a video testimony for a School Board meeting on Oct. 24, mentioning “Queer: A Graphic History,” but the school district refused to include her video in the meeting. (Langton ended up testifying in person, anyway, but the school district’s refusal revealed the book’s removal.) Christina Setlow, clerk of the Fairfax County School Board, sent Langton an email that afternoon citing “indecent and profane content” in her remarks. She clarified that the content related to “Queer: A Graphic History” and added that the book “is not a part of the [Fairfax County Public Schools] curriculum at any grade level and is not maintained in any FCPS library.” Christina Setlow email to Stacy Langton Langton found the book’s absence from the libraries curious. She shared with The Daily Signal photos she took at Fairfax High School at the end of April 2023, in which “Queer: A Graphic History” appeared in a display encouraging students to “try an LGBT book!” “Queer: A Graphic History” appears in a display encouraging students to “try an LGBT book” at Fairfax High School at the end of April 2023. (Photo credit: Stacy Langton) “Queer: A Graphic History” appears in a display encouraging students to “try an LGBT book” at Fairfax High School at the end of April 2023. (Photo credit: Stacy Langton) Langton suggested that FCPS avoided the usual process by which parents and others can challenge books in the public school libraries. Noël Klimenko, assistant superintendent of the school district’s Instructional Services Department, confirmed that the libraries followed a separate process, weeding out “Queer: A Graphic History” either at the end of the 2022-2023 school year or the 2023-2024 school year. Noël Klimenko email to Stacy Langton Klimenko added a longer explanation in a followup email. She claimed the book never faced a challenge, but said, “Librarians made the decision to weed “Queer: A Graphic History” from their collections due to outdated terminology that is no longer used in the LGBTQ+ community.” “They determined that there are other books in their collections that provide accurate, up-to-date information on LGBTQ+ history that were superior sources of information on this topic,” she added. Noël Klimenko email to Stacy Langton “The illustrations in this book are no different than the illustrations in ‘Gender Queer,'” Langton told The Daily Signal. “They explicitly show X-rated and deviant sex acts. All books with this type of pornographic material MUST be removed from our schools. They are violating federal obscenity laws.”  Fairfax County Public Schools approved gender ideology lessons in June, endorsing a PBS video that tells kids that “there are people who are trans, or people who don’t have a gender.” ‘Gender Queer’ Controversy Fairfax County Public Schools previously removed “Gender Queer” and “Lawn Boy,” a novel by Jonathan Evison, after they faced an official challenge. “Lawn Boy” includes long sections of a boy reminiscing about sexual experiences he had at 10 years old. In November 2021, the school district announced that it had restored the books to libraries after two committees reviewed them. One committee found that “Lawn Boy” includes themes that “are affirming for students” with marginalized identities. “There is no pedophilia in the book,” the committee added. The other committee found that “Gender Queer” depicts “difficulties nonbinary and asexual individuals may face.” The committee concluded that “the book neither depicts, nor describes pedophilia.” An FCPS spokesperson told Fox News in 2022 that the committee decided “the books did not depict pedophilia, nor contain pornography.” Langton told The Daily Signal that she plans to file a new challenge to “Gender Queer” once the timeline for the previous challenge expires. The school district did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment in response to Langton’s claims. Element X Steps Into the Future of Messaging Privacy with Matrix 2.0 Debut

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. At the recent Matrix Conference, developers behind Element launched the latest iteration of their effort – Element X, a private, decentralized, open-source, and end-to-end encrypted app. Element X is a Matrix-based (and the first Matrix 2.0) cross-platform messenger based on the classic Element mobile apps, and according to a blog post, “almost all” its users can now use Element X for messaging. This applies both to personal and corporate scenarios. The plan is to turn Element X – a full rewrite – into Element once again – as soon as the migration has been completed for all users. COO and co-founder Amandine Le Pape presented a demo of the new features during the conference, including that known as Element (video) Calls. The key developers went into the technical side of things as well, explaining that the software now uses Rust SDK and SwiftUI, as well as Jetpack Compose (these are APIs and UI frameworks for various platforms.) Users are urged to now try, and provide feedback on the new product for Android and iOS. Some notes touching on privacy and security issues are made, such as the app being available on Google Play Store’s free and open source alternative F-Droid as well – and that some metrics testing is done via Simplified Sliding Sync. It’s an opt-in, available to those who wish to help the developers understand how their app is behaving, performance-wise. Other than providing users with “beautiful usability, performance, and productivity,” some other noteworthy Element X features include instant sync, instant login, and instant launch, end-to-end-encrypted voice and video conferencing that is powered by Matrix – an open standard real-time communications protocol. Currently not generally available, but the plan is to have that in place by the end of the year is what is known as next-generation authentication, which includes login via QR code. Encryption is one of those features that are always desirable, but often difficult to set up or use by “the average user”; here, the team behind Element X promises “radically improved encryption UX (user experience)” which relies on matrix-rust-crypto and the Invisible Encryption Initiative. The blog post also provides technical details on how to register an account and use Element X. Hewitt Storms Off WashPost Live, Resigns After Capehart Shames Him For Correcting Fake News

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt stormed off Friday’s edition of Washington Post Live and resigned his columnist position shortly afterwards after liberal associate editor Jonathan Capehart claimed he didn’t “appreciate being lectured” after Hewitt called out fellow panelist Ruth Marcus’s fake news about Donald Trump. Hewitt gave Capehart his wish, “I won’t come back, Jonathan. I’m done. This is the most unfair election ad I have ever been a part of.” Capehart began by asking Marcus, “Is it me or does it seem like this week Donald Trump is laying the groundwork for contesting the election by complaining that “cheating” was taking place in Pennsylvania by suing Bucks County for alleged irregularities, and this is on top of his continual assertion that if he loses, it's because of cheating?”     Marcus replied, “Uh, yeah, that's what he's been laying the groundwork for just not in the last week, but in the last umptyump months. No election can be fair unless Donald, in Donald Trump's mind, unless Donald Trump wins it, and I think we are going to see him both rev up his supporters to contest elections outside of courtrooms and go to every courtroom he can in America, where it's relevant to make whatever arguments he can, no matter how far-fetched. We saw—” Hewitt then tried to interject, “Jonathan, I’ve got to speak up,” but Capehart told him to wait and “let her finish.” Marcus then did just that, adding, “It may not work, it may not, that may not happen this time, and now I'll let you go, Hugh.” Hewitt then sought to bring some badly needed context to the conversation, “Well, I've just got to say we're news people even though we’re at the opinion section. It's got to be reported. Bucks County was reversed by the court and instructed to open up extra days because they violated the law and told people to go home.” He added, “So, that lawsuit was brought by the Republican National Committee, and it was successful. The Supreme Court ruled that Glenn Youngkin was successful. We are news people, even though we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story if we bring up part of the story. So, yes, he's upset about Bucks County, but he was right and he won in court. That's the story.” You would think Republicans suing to extend early voting would make liberals like Capehart and Marcus happy, but instead, Capehart showed a stunning lack of professionalism, “Um, no, I'm just, I don't appreciate being lectured about reporting when, Hugh, you many times you come here saying lots of things that are—” Hewitt then got out of his chair and left, “I won’t come back, Jonathan. I’m done. This is the most unfair election ad I have ever been a part of. You guys are working, that's fine. I'm done.” Capehart tried to proceed as if he wasn't an indecent host, “So Ruth, you wrote a column this week ending with this line, and actually, I think this is perfect. We're going to put it on the screen. You wrote, ‘You want to know the stakes of this election, not only democracy but decency.’” Talk more about that, Ruth.” Marcus tried to respond, “Okay, collecting myself,” before her camera feed froze, likely because someone pushed the wrong button in an attempt to get the image of Hewitt’s empty office off the screen. Capehart scrambled, "Oh, Ruth froze. Ruth is frozen. So hang in there, everyone. We're going to see if we can try to get Ruth back to his very--we're going to get, we're going to get Ruth back in a moment." Marcus was not back in a moment. After Capehart read some advertisements, the show ended. Here is a transcript for the November 1 show: Washington Post Live 11/1/2024 9:19 AM ET JONATHAN CAPEHART: Is it me or does it seem like this week Donald Trump is laying the groundwork for contesting the election by complaining that “cheating” was taking place in Pennsylvania by suing Bucks County for alleged irregularities, and this is on top of his continual assertion that if he loses, it's because of cheating? Hugh Hewitt abruptly quits Washington Post over inaccurate, biased reporting: 'Unfair election ad'

On Friday, radio host Hugh Hewitt abruptly quit the Washington Post shortly after walking off the Post Live's "First Look," accusing the liberal panelists of engaging in an "unfair election ad" rather than objective journalism.Hewitt had been a contributing columnist for the Post since 2017. He told Fox News Digital on Friday afternoon, “I have in fact quit the Post but I was only writing a column for them every six weeks or so.”During a roundtable discussion, the "First Look" host, Jonathan Capehart, repeatedly attempted to "fact-check" Hewitt's remarks without giving him a chance to respond. Trump 'was right, and he won in court. That's the story.'The show reached a boiling point when Capehart and Ruth Marcus, the Post's associate editor, accused former President Donald Trump of "laying the groundwork" to contest the upcoming election. As a united front, the two journalists claimed that Trump has been making unfounded allegations of "cheating." Specifically, they mentioned a recent lawsuit filed by the Republican National Committee against Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The lawsuit was filed after locals claimed that the county illegally turned them away from voting centers. On Wednesday, Trump and the RNC won the case against the county, forcing it to extend early voting through November 1, Blaze News previously reported. "Is it me, or does it seem like this week Donald Trump is laying the groundwork for contesting the election by complaining that cheating was taking place in Pennsylvania by suing Bucks County for alleged irregularities?" Capehart asked Marcus. "And this is on top of his continual assertion that if he loses, it's because of cheating."Hewitt shook his head during Capehart's question, clearly already frustrated with the direction of the discussion.Marcus responded, "Uh, yeah. That's what he's been laying the groundwork for this, just not in the last week but in the last umpty-umpth months. No election can be fair in Donald Trump's mind unless Donald Trump wins it. And I think we are going to see him both rev up his supporters to contest elections outside of courtrooms and go to every courtroom he can in America where it's relevant to make whatever arguments he can, no matter how far-fetched."Hewitt responded, "Bucks County was reversed by the court and instructed to open up extra days because they violated the law and told people to go home. So that lawsuit was brought by the Republican National Committee, and it was successful.""We are news people even though we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story if we bring up part of the story. So, yes, he's [Trump] upset about Bucks County, but he was right, and he won in court," Hewitt added. "That's the story."After Hewitt concluded his remarks, there were several moments of silence as Capehart slowly dragged his pen over his apparent notes with a seemingly smug and unenthused grin. "I'll let you keep going, Jonathan," Marcus stated, filling the dead air."Um, no, I'm just — don't appreciate being lectured about reporting when, Hugh, many times you've come here saying lots of things that aren't based in fact," Capehart remarked."I won't come back, Jonathan," Hewitt snapped as he removed his earpiece."This is the most unfair election ad I've ever been a part of. You guys are working. That's fine.""I'm done!" Hewitt declared as he walked off camera. Capehart attempted to continue the discussion with Marcus, but her video feed froze mid-sentence. He explained that the show tried reconnecting with Marcus but that the attempt was unsuccessful."Okay, we lost her again," he stated before abruptly closing the show. The Washington Post told Fox News Digital, “As the newsroom’s live journalism platform, Washington Post Live is known for its dynamic conversations and thought-provoking perspectives on top issues of the day, such as this morning's ‘First Look’ program.”Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, acknowledged in an opinion piece early this week that the public no longer views the media, including the Post, as accurate, Blaze News previously reported. He noted that the newspaper would not endorse a presidential candidate because it would "create a perception of bias" and "non-independence."Like Blaze News?
