‘ELECTION INTERFERENCE’: Trump Sues CBS Over Edited Harris ’60 Minutes’ Interview

Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS today, accusing the network of “election and voter interference.” “This action concerns CBS’s partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to (a) confuse, deceive, and mislead the public, and (b) attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party as the heated 2024 Presidential Election—which President Trump is leading— approaches its conclusion,” wrote Trump’s lawyers. The lawsuit, which was first reported by Fox News, is over an interview Vice President Kamala Harris did with “60 Minutes.” “CBS and its 60 Minutes producers intentionally misled the public by broadcasting and posting a carefully, deceptively edited Interview and transcript while opting to release other portions online. Such manipulative editing aimed to confuse the electorate regarding Kamala’s lack of abilities, intelligence, and appeal,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. In the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Trump demands at least $10 billion in damages and a jury trial. CBS did not immediately respond to an email request for comment. On Oct. 20, the “60 Minutes” posted a statement saying that Trump’s accusations of deceitful editing by the news network were “false.” The statement addressed the difference between the clip of Harris played on “Face the Nation,” another CBS show, and her response on “60 Minutes” to a question about Israel. “’60 Minutes’ gave an excerpt of our interview to ‘Face the Nation’ that used a longer section of her answer than that on ’60 Minutes.’ Same question. Same answer. But a different portion of the response,” “60 Minutes” said in its statement. After that statement, Trump lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik sent a letter to CBS, demanding the network release the full transcript of Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview, reported Fox News. The full transcript has not been released. The lawsuit accuses CBS of a long-lasting bias against Republicans. “This is not the first time that CBS has engaged in unethical and unlawful behavior through 60 Minutes to try to sabotage a Republican presidential candidate,” states the lawsuit. “CBS’s misconduct here is evocative of the 2004 Dan Rather ’60 Minutes’ scandal, where Rather presented four forged documents as authentic in an attempt to impugn President George W. Bush’s integrity regarding his service in the Texas Air National Guard in 1972-73.” The post ‘ELECTION INTERFERENCE’: Trump Sues CBS Over Edited Harris ’60 Minutes’ Interview appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Woke Cumulus Media, NewsChannel 5 Refuse to Air Trump-Inspired Ads for Tennessee Retailer DT McCalls

Tennessee retailer D.T. McCall & Sons told The Tennessee Star on Wednesday that Cumulus Media and Scripps Media, Inc. both refused to broadcast advertisements inspired by former President Donald Trump on Cumulus’ Nashville radio station, SuperTalk 99.7 WTN, and Scripps’ Nashville television station, NewsChannel 5. The offending ads feature an impersonator of Trump wearing a suit and a “Make America Great Again” hat who performs an impression of the former president while extolling the virtues of D.T. McCall & Sons and excoriating nameless competitors at “the lumber yards.” “These are sick people at the lumber yards,” said the Trump impersonator in one of the four ads reviewed by the Star. “They charge you for cords, and hoses, and haul offs,” he continued, “they call them hidden charges, it’s the type of surprise that you don’t want to see. It’s like an October Surprise, but it’s worse.” In another, the impersonator explained, “I was this close, very close to buying from the lumber yards,” until, “I turned my head at the last second, and I saw a big, beautiful ad for D.T. McCall’s.” A.J. McCall, the owner of the Tennessee appliance company, told the Star on Monday that Cumulus declined to run the commercials on its Nashville radio station even after McCall had the ads modified to include a disclaimer clarifying that Trump did not personally lend his voice to his company for the ads. “I found a Trump impersonator that sounds really exactly like Trump. He made some ads for us. Cumulus wouldn’t run them,” said McCall. “We put a disclaimer at the end; Cumulus still won’t run them.” The reported refusal to run ads featuring an impression of Trump’s catchphrases and cadence could prove to be the latest hurdle for the radio network that has sometimes struggled with its conservative hosts and audience. In 2023, Bob Boccia, who was formerly a morning show co-host on Cumulus’ Memphis station, WKIM News/Talk 98.9, sued Cumulus, until the broadcaster mandated that all employees receive COVID-19 vaccinations. Cumulus was the first national broadcast company to announce a COVID-19 vaccine mandate. National radio personality Dan Bongino formerly announced his intention to leave the company due to the vaccine mandate but later stated that he would remain after Cumulus dropped the mandate in 2023. According to a 2023 company report published by Cumulus, the broadcasting company is “committed to advancing and cultivating an environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion combine to create a sense of belonging for all,” highlighting the broadcaster’s commitment to the controversial diversity, equity, and inclusion ideology. The report further reveals Cumulus created a DEI Steering Committee in 2020, joined the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion coalition in 2021, and “engaged a DEI advisory firm to further expand our DEI efforts” in 2022. McCall told the Star on Wednesday that Scripps raised legal concerns about running the ad on NewsChannel 5. “Channel 5 says that their lawyers rejected the commercial, but my understanding of trademark law is that it should be obviously a parody of Trump, because there’s the impersonator right there on the screen,” said McCall. “You can tell it’s not Trump.” Scripps similarly offers a webpage extolling its commitment to DEI, where it explains its commitment to “a diverse and inclusive culture” starts “by looking inward to build and celebrate a diverse and inclusive workplace,” which is reflected through the broadcaster’s “recruiting and hiring practices.” NewsChannel 5 has faced accusations of partisanship, and in April its reporter Phil Williams acknowledged he was aware of the claim state Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, covered up reports of a 2020 sexual assault by a homeless person against two activists who participated in a 62-day protest Jones led in Nashville’s Legislative Plaza. Williams claimed he did not pursue the story after he questioned Jones and the lawmaker told Williams he was romantically entangled with the person behind the claim. Phoenix on Fire: Rising Prices Burn Arizonans

Residents of Phoenix are feeling the heat, and it’s not just the weather. Instead, it’s the relentless rise in inflation that has tightened its grip on household budgets, forcing many to reevaluate their spending and lifestyle choices. The current financial reality has become painfully clear: the American dream has become a distant memory, seemingly out of reach for many Phoenix families. Christopher is a young professional in Arizona (he asked not to use his full name). His story is emblematic of a larger struggle faced by many in his generation, as the dream of financial independence feels increasingly elusive. He graduated from Arizona State University in 2023 with an English degree. Now, he works in the human resources department at an in-patient rehabilitation hospital in Mesa. Living with his mother in Scottsdale—an arrangement borne of necessity rather than choice—he is confronted daily by the exorbitant costs of living in Phoenix. Using the Heritage Foundation’s Inflation Calculator, Christopher’s monthly household expenses total $4,753. This marks a staggering increase of 35.9% or $1,254, since January 2021. The impact of inflation, propagated by reckless government spending, is evident across all facets of life, from essential needs to discretionary spending. Households are grappling with financial decisions that were once straightforward, as the cost of living has surged at an alarming rate. Christopher’s personal expenses run through The Heritage Foundation Inflation Calculator at myinflation.com. Rent is the largest financial burden for Christopher. He currently splits a two-bedroom apartment with his mother at $2,800 per month, 37.2% or $759 a month more than he would have paid four years ago. For many, rent or mortgage costs consume a substantial portion of household income, leaving little room for savings or other expenses. He says that his dream of homeownership is slipping further away: “Trying to move out into a decent neighborhood means an average monthly mortgage payment of $2,500 minimum. As a recent graduate and single guy, this is completely impossible for him. “I can’t afford that rent payment on my own, so I save by staying at home with my mom,” he said. Transportation and car expenses have not escaped the inflationary heat wave either. He pays $240 per month for gasoline, which is $73, or 43.9%, more expensive than 2021. The cost of commuting 80 minutes from Scottsdale to Mesa for a day of work is burning a hole in his budget, too. Other transportation costs, including insurance, have also seen significant increases. He pays $200 monthly for car insurance, a drastic 54.9% increase compared to just four short years ago. Some of the expenses that one can input into The Heritage Foundation Inflation Calculator at myinflation.com. Another area where residents feel the pinch is in their grocery bills. Christopher spends an average of $200 per month on groceries, which have increased by 21% since 2021. Eating out has become a luxury that many can no longer afford, as it has increased by 23.1% since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office. The simple pleasure of enjoying a meal with friends or family is increasingly overshadowed by financial constraints. Taking his mother or a date to Cheesecake Factory warrants a bill of $60, compared to $48 just four years ago. “Inflation kills the restaurant business because they have tight margins, so they either raise food prices or cut costs by laying off employees and making portions smaller,” Christopher said. This vicious cycle places the financial burden squarely on consumers, who either receive less for their money or choose to forgo dining out altogether. It is crucial policymakers address the underlying causes of inflation. By implementing responsible fiscal policies and fostering economic growth that prioritizes affordability, such action would alleviate the financial strain on individuals like Christopher. The current inflation crisis is a wake-up call for Phoenix. Arizona families and all Americans deserve an economy that supports them and contributes to a higher standard of living, not one that stifles them with rising costs. It’s time for Phoenix to rise above these economic challenges and ensure that the American dream remains within reach for all its residents. Inflation Is the New Tax on Georgia Families

As the Peach State recovers from back-to-back hurricanes, Georgians are struggling to rebuild their families’ lives. With the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s inadequate response being just another symptom of the misuse of taxpayer dollars, many are becoming cynical. Making things even harder is the ever-increasing cost of goods and services. The federal government prints a trillion dollars in debt every 100 days, fueling the inflation that has burned a hole in everyone’s pocketbook. Thanks to Washington’s wasteful management of taxpayer funds, it is more difficult than ever for Americans to afford the basics, such as groceries. As The Heritage Foundation’s new Personal Inflation Calculator shows, the average cost of living has increased by nearly $1,500 per month for the typical Georgia household since January 2021. The Heritage Foundation’s new Personal Inflation Calculator shows the average cost of living has increased by nearly $1,500 per month since January 2021 for the typical Georgia household. (myinflation.com) This inflation isn’t a transitory blip; it is a direct outcome of government overspending and the printing of new money to cover it that devalues the dollar. The rising inflation that’s occurred under the Biden-Harris administration has resulted in a roughly 19% increase in the cost of groceries in Atlanta since January of 2021, when Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office. The effects of inflation on eating out are just as bad: Consumers can expect to spend an average of 20% more per month on their restaurant budget than they did just four years ago. How do these price increases affect the typical person’s month-to-month expenses? Today, the average Georgian spends roughly $625 on groceries and $420 on dining out monthly. That means they are spending nearly $100 more on groceries and $72 more on restaurants a month than they spent in January of 2021. That comes out to over $2,000 more per year on food and dining than the average Georgian spent in 2021. To put the effects of inflation under the Biden-Harris administration into perspective, consider Coca-Cola, a Georgia original and local icon. According to The Associated Press, Coca-Cola raised prices in North America by 11% between January and June of this year. And it’s not just Coke—the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that, on average, the price of a standard 12-pack of soft drinks has risen over 40% since January of 2021. While the cost of groceries has risen drastically, wages have not—according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the average median income in Georgia has risen by less than 18% since January of 2021. With inflation driving greater expenses across the board—the costs of gas and housing have increased by roughly 44% and 28%, respectively—affording basic goods and services has become increasingly difficult for the average consumer. The surging costs reflects a deeper problem: the tremendous government overspending that has occurred under this administration. The Federal Reserve has printed money to compensate for the virtually unchecked spending over the last four years, and, as a result, the value of the American dollar has significantly eroded. Ultimately, it’s everyday consumers who bear the brunt of Washington’s fiscal irresponsibility. As the cost of essentials like food, gas, and rent continues to rise, Georgians have every right to question why their hard-earned dollars should fund reckless spending in D.C. It’s time for policymakers to recognize that inflation isn’t an abstract figure; it’s a tax on families, and they deserve leaders who prioritize stability over unchecked government growth.
