Christians ‘Not Welcome’ in Harris’ America, Vance Says

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, has a level of contempt for American Christians who are trying to help their neighbors, Sen. JD Vance said at a campaign stop in Las Vegas on Wednesday.  “Kamala Harris has this attitude, that if you’re a Christian, and you’re trying to do charitable work … well, don’t even come knocking, because you’re not welcome in the United States of America,” said Vance, R-Ohio, the Republican vice presidential nominee.   Vance cited the scourge of drugs, telling supporters there are many Christians and other people of faith who would love to help those in their communities who are addicted to drugs through counseling and recovery centers.   Former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate said that the federal government is making it difficult for them to do that.   “Right now, the government makes it way too hard for people of faith who love their communities to get involved with helping their neighbors,” Vance asserted. “Donald Trump and I want to be allies of anyone who is trying to help make their communities better, because that’s the American way, and I love that about this country.”   Vance isn’t the first person to suggest that Harris displays hostility toward Christians.   A male Christian college student who attended an Oct. 17 Harris rally in Wisconsin said later in an interview on Fox News that he was assaulted by attendees at the event after a protester yelled “Christ is king” and “Jesus is Lord.”  The student said Harris then told him and a fellow Christian “you guys are at the wrong rally.” Video commentary on the incident has sprung up on social media.   Harris skipped this year’s annual Al Smith Dinner, a bipartisan event held that same night by Catholic charities in New York City that raises “millions of dollars for New York’s most vulnerable women and children,” according to its website.   Vance concluded his Las Vegas speech Wednesday by saying that all people who want to help their neighbors are welcome under Trump.   “Whether you’re Christian, Jew, nonbeliever … if you’re trying to help your neighbors, you’ve got a place in Donald Trump’s Republican Party, and we hope that we can earn your support,” he said.   The post Christians ‘Not Welcome’ in Harris’ America, Vance Says   appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Christians Will Help America End Biden-Harris ‘Horror Show,’ Trump Says at Georgia Faith Event

If more Christians and gun owners voted, Republicans never would lose an election, former President Donald Trump said Wednesday at a campaign event in battleground Georgia focused on faith and religious freedom.  “I think we’ve really energized a lot of [Christians] this time because they’ve seen how bad it is,” Trump told the crowd at a church in Zebulon, Georgia.  “These last four years … it’s been a horror show, an absolute horror show,” the former president said of the Biden-Harris administration. “And I think, I think we’re going to see those numbers [of Christians voting] go way up.”  He will fix corrupt government agencies and turn things around if he defeats Vice President Kamala Harris and regains the White House in the Nov. 5 election, Trump told the crowd.   Harris became Democrats’ official presidential nominee in August after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July amid questions about his failing mental abilities.  Trump’s “Believers and Ballots” town hall was moderated by Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, a fellow Republican.   Trump has campaigned in Savannah and Atlanta but this was his first stop in central Georgia this election cycle.   In the 2020 election, Biden defeated Trump by only 0.2% of the vote in Georgia, a result that Trump unsuccessfully contested, among others.  Trump answered voters’ questions and outlined his plans for a second term at the town hall-style event.  The former president again attributed his survival of an assassination attempt at a July 13 campaign rally n Butler, Pennsylvania, to an act of God. Trump said the nation’s biggest problem is the southern border, where he said Biden and Harris ended his strict immigration policies, the result of which was to “allow murderers into our country.”  Illegal aliens have surged to the border since 2021 as other nations “empty out their prisons from all over the world,” Trump said.  Jones thanked Trump for starting a GoFundMe page that raised over $7 million in less than a week after Hurricane Helene hit to help victims of the storm in Georgia and elsewhere.  A record number of early voters are going to the polls in Georgia and other states, according to news reports.   “We want to make it too big to rig, right?” Trump said of the election and fears of voter fraud.  Trump also touched on Israel and the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.  “We’re going to do a lot for Israel and we’re behind them,” Trump said of the Jewish state’s war with Hamas since the terrorist organization that governs the Gaza Strip went on a rampage of rape, torture, and murder in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.   “And the big thing, we want to have peace in the Middle East,” Trump said.  “We want to have Russia stop with Ukraine,” he added of the Russian invasion of the former Soviet republic in February 2022 and ensuing war. “We’re going to get that done.”  Trump also said he has a simple solution to inflation once he returns to the White House.  “We’re going to drill, baby, drill, and that’s going to bring [the prices of] everything down,” Trump said, referring to the economy’s need for more oil, natural gas, and other domestic sources of less expensive energy.   “That’s going to … bring everything down, because it’s such a big component of the fabric of our life,” he said.  The post Christians Will Help America End Biden-Harris ‘Horror Show,’ Trump Says at Georgia Faith Event appeared first on The Daily Signal.

The Adventures of Mrs. Chippy, Shackleton’s Seafaring Cat

Ernest Shackleton’s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition aimed to be the first to cross the Antarctic continent from one side to another. However, when the ship Endurance sunk in 1915, the crew had to fight to survive. Miraculously, all 28 of the expedition team survived the perilous cold, epic distances and scarce supplies that characterised their voyage over hundreds of miles in search of safety and rescue. The crew then became famous across the world. However, there was another crew member aboard the Endurance: Mrs. Chippy, a beloved tabby cat known for its devotion to its master, ability to climb rigging and close shaves with death. Here’s the story of Mrs. Chippy, the Endurance‘s feline crew member. Mrs. Chippy was a Scottish cat Mrs. Chippy, a tiger-striped tabby, was bought by Scottish shipwright and carpenter Harry ‘Chippy’ McNish (chippy being a colloquial British term for a carpenter) from his home in Cathcart, Scotland, where he lived in a cottage called Mole Catcher’s House. Mrs. Chippy earned its name by dutifully following Chippy McNish around, like an overly attentive wife. The name stuck. When Chippy McNish was chosen to be part of the crew on Shackleton’s Endurance, Mrs. Chippy came along too. A ship’s cat, Mrs. Chippy was tasked with both catching mice and rats and being a source of company for the whole crew. After a month at sea, it was learned that the robust tabby cat was in fact ‘not a lady, but a gentleman’. He was an able seaman The crew having their hair cut onboard Endurance in 1914. Mrs. Chippy would have been present at many of these events.Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons The expedition photographer Frank Hurley captured the only known picture of Mrs. Chippy. However, many of the crew wrote about him being ‘full of character’ in their diaries and logs and attested to his confidence and ease at sea. Captain Frank Worsley detailed Mrs. Chippy’s habit of climbing the rigging “exactly after the manner of a seaman going aloft”, while meteorologist Leonard Hussey noted that he used to take a provocative stroll across the roofs of the dogs’ kennels. He also impressed the crew with his ability to walk along inch-wide rails in the roughest of seas. However, Mrs. Chippy’s sea legs occasionally wobbled. In an entry dated 13 September 1914, Storekeeper Thomas Orde-Lees wrote that “an extraordinary thing happened during the night. The tabby cat jumped overboard through one of the cabin portholes and the officer on watch, Lt. Hudson, heard her screams and turned the ship smartly round & picked her up. She must have been in the water 10 minutes or more”. He was picked up by the ship’s biologist Robert Clark, who used one of his sample nets. It seems that one of Mrs. Chippy’s nine lives was used up. He was shot After the Endurance became trapped in pack ice, the transcontinental plan was abandoned. Shackleton’s focus was now one of survival, and he began drawing up plans to march the crew westward to one of several possible destinations. Along with five sled dogs (including three puppies, one of whom was the surgeon’s pet), Mrs. Chippy was ordered to be killed. The ship’s crew reportedly doted over Mrs. Chippy in his final hours, giving him hugs and feeding him his favourite food, sardines, which was perhaps laced with a sleeping drug. In a diary entry from 29 October 1915, Shackleton recorded: “This afternoon Sallie’s three youngest pups, Sue’s Sirius, and Mrs. Chippy, the carpenter’s cat, have to be shot. We could not undertake the maintenance of weaklings under the new conditions. Macklin [who owned a pet puppy], Crean [in charge of the dog-handling], and the carpenter seemed to feel the loss of their friends rather badly.” McNish never forgave Shackleton McNish proved to be an essential crew member when he was chosen, along with 5 others, to sail some 800 miles in a single lifeboat to South Georgia. He refitted the boat to make the journey possible, and arguably saved the lives of the whole crew as a result. Their relationship worsened, and Shackleton even threatened to shoot him for arguing that the crew no longer had to take the captain’s orders since their contract had lapsed upon the sinking of the Endurance in November 1915. Shackleton and McNish’s relationship was so bad that Shackleton refused to recommend McNish for a Polar Medal that the rest of the crew later received. McNish’s family would (in vain) later try and lobby the British government that McNish be posthumously awarded the same medal in 1997. Before he died in 1930, McNish repeatedly stated to his friends, family and visitors, “Shackleton killed my cat”. A statue of him is on his master’s gravestone Mrs. Chippy’s statue by Chris Elliot. On Harry McNeish’s grave in Karori cemetery, Wellington, New Zealand.Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons McNish died in destitution in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1930. Though he was buried with full military honours in a Karori cemetery, he was buried in an unmarked pauper’s grave. In 1959, the New Zealand Antarctic Society were shocked to learn that McNish had received only a pauper’s burial, so raised funds for a headstone to stand on his grave. In 2004, the same society decided to create a marker for Mrs. Chippy. The public donated funds to create a life-size bronze statue of Mrs. Chippy, and later the same year, around 100 people gathered round McNish’s grave and read words of tribute for both the carpenter and his cat. There are no words on the grave about beloved Mrs. Chippy. However, it is telling that those visiting the grave often present his little statue with flowers. Why Letting Your Kid Walk Home Alone Could Land You in Jail

What does it take for a parent to get arrested? Surprisingly little. Scott and Heather Wallace of Hewitt, Texas, encourage their three boys to play outside on their own to build independence. One day, driving home from karate practice, 8-year-old Aiden misbehaved. So, half a mile from home, Heather stopped the car and told him, “Walk the rest of the way on your own.” He’d done it before. But this time, before he got home, someone called the police. “There’s a little boy walking down the sidewalk,” she told 911. “He’s a perfect target for somebody to kidnap!” Police picked Aiden up and drove him home. His parents share their story in our new video. “You weren’t worried about (Aiden)?” I ask them. “Not at all,” says Heather. Scott adds, “It’s a safe neighborhood.” It’s true. Based on data from the FBI, their town is among the safest in Texas. Nevertheless, the cops arrested Heather! They kept her in jail overnight. “It was terrifying,” she tells me. “I was just waiting, crying.” The cop told her, “To have an 8-year-old ... walk by himself, that’s a big problem. ... We don’t know who’s in that white van.” That’s just dumb, says Lenore Skenazy, author of “Free-Range Kids.” “99.99% of white vans are guys coming to fix your toilet or mow your lawn.” She says ignorant media mislead us about what’s really dangerous. News reports cite Justice Department data and claim “460,000 kids are reported missing every year!” But that just means: “460,000 children are late for dinner, stayed at school and forgot to tell their mom. ... The definition of ‘missing’ is missing for an hour!” Kidnappings by strangers are extremely rare. Just being in a car is 400 times more dangerous. “You don’t see people saying, ‘I could put Johnny in the car, but what if we’re T-boned?” Skenazy points out. “We’ve come up with a culture that sees a kid outside and fantasizes not just something bad but the very worst-case scenario.” The officer who picked up Aiden argued the worst-case: “You have a lot of crazy people out here,” he told Heather. “I don’t trust my child out of range (of) about 20 or 30 feet from me.” Twenty or 30 feet? “It was a lot of his opinion,” Heather tells me. Police officers can act on their opinions. Local prosecutors went even further. They indicted Heather, claiming she placed her son in “imminent danger of death” and acted “against the peace and dignity of the state.” Really! When her employer heard that, Heather lost her job. Good thing officials weren’t this obsessed with stranger danger when I was a kid. I walked half-a-mile every school day. Crime was much worse then. Even including recent upticks, crime has dropped sharply over the past 30 years. What’s changed is media hysteria. Any dramatic incident, anywhere, appears instantly on our phones. Frightened, gullible, math-illiterate officials say, better safe than sorry. Now Scott and Heather say that, too. “Will you drop your kids off again?” I ask. “No!” says Heather. “We’re scared.” “It’s not that we don’t think it was the right decision,” says Scott, “But what they decided for us was not very affordable. (Now) we don’t even leave them in the car to go into the convenience store,” “Not because someone’s going to take them,” Heather adds, “but because someone’s going to see and call the police!” Lenore Skenazy has persuaded eight states to pass “childhood independence” laws. They clarify that letting kids do things on their own isn’t abuse. “You don’t want the government telling you when you can let your kids do things,” she says. “You know your children better than they do.”

Man's mummified corpse decomposed in bathtub for months while 7 burglary suspects moved in to steal his property, police say

Georgia police sent on a welfare check said they found evidence that a group of people had moved into a dead man's home and stolen his property while he decomposed in a bathtub for months. Cobb County Police said they were called to the residence in Smyrna, a suburb of Atlanta, in early October by people concerned about the absence of 71-year-old Robert Westbrook. 'It’s a shame and it’s sad. It’s just sad. To take advantage of a dead person is just sick.'After entering the man's home, they found his body in a bathtub. “He was in a severe state of decomposition. It’s called mummification,” said Detective Daniel Goduto. They believe that Westbrook's body had been decomposing for about three months. And in that time, a group of burglars had moved into the home to ransack his belongings and steal whatever they could, police said. “Drawers were overturned. His master bedroom was completely just disheveled,” Goduto continued. “But then, there were items consistent with somebody still living there. The trash looked like it was taken out regularly. It looked like there was stuff in the garbage can that was fairly new.”A day later, a neighbor called police to let them know there were people in the man's driveway. Police responded and found four people loading Westbrook's property into their car. Westbrook's car was also missing, and police were able to trace it to a gas station, where they found three other burglary suspects. Police said they were using his credit cards and forging checks to steal his money. The suspects face a slew of charges, including burglary and fraud. “It goes to show their moral compass, if you will,” Goduto said. “I mean, they broke into someone’s home. They saw him deceased on the ground and instead of saying, ‘Hey, we messed up. Let’s call 911. We found this guy dead,’ they decided to just live there.”Westbrook is believed to have died of natural causes. When police tried to contact his family, they found that all of his relatives were dead. One neighbor told WSBT-TV that she didn't know Westbrook had passed away because he often kept to himself. “It’s a shame and it’s sad. It’s just sad,” said Sonya da Silva. “To take advantage of a dead person is just sick.”Scenes from the home can be viewed on WSB-TV's news video on YouTube. Like Blaze News?
