The company says its new Lomo’Instant Wide Glass is the “sharpest instant camera on earth,” but while it probably outperforms other Lomography offerings, it’s up against instant alternatives like the Nons SL660 which is compatible with EF mount lenses. Since Apple started selling its Vision Pro headset in February, sales have been lower than anticipated. Even after this spatial computer expanded to some international markets, Apple has apparently overstated its sales forecast. Now, The Information reports that Cupertino has abruptly reduced production of Apple Vision Pro, and it could stop making this headset completely by the end of 2024. The publication heard multiple people directly involved in producing the components for Vision Pro. While reductions started during the summer, it seems the company has enough devices in its inventory to meet demand through the following year. While it's unclear if Apple is counting on a broader expansion of Vision Pro, The Information says the high price point and lack of features impact the demand for this device. To this day, key developers aren't porting their apps to the spatial computer, which includes Netflix and Spotify. The publication reports that Apple told Luxshare that it might wind down production by November and wants to focus on releasing a lower-cost headset in 2025. The company expects to make four million units of this lower-cost headset throughout its lifespan. Still, this is half of what Apple expected to sell with the original Vision Pro. While a proper second generation of this spatial computer could be delayed, The Information says Apple could use the existing products and just update its processor for an "incremental update to the product with limited changes to its physical design." More recently, Apple did that with the AirPods Max, which was updated with a USB-C port over the older Lightning connector. Even Apple's CEO Tim Cook admitted to having lower sales. However, he expects this niche device to grow among users as the company releases new iterations of its spatial computing vision. The first batch of Apple Intelligence features will be available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users next week. After much anticipation, at least some of Apple's long-awaited features will finally be released. Ahead of this launch, The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern talked with Apple's software chief, Craig Federighi, about Apple Intelligence, its limitations, and why some features have been delayed. One of the key features is the Clean Up tool. Apple says this feature can identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo without accidentally altering the subject. In real-world scenarios, the tool is great for removing an object or person from a solid background, such as a bird from a blue sky. However, more complex backgrounds leave behind visible errors. Apple's Craig Federigh explains that this limitation is intentional. While many AI tools try to generate new parts of a photo, Apple doesn't. “People view photographic content as something they can rely on as indicative of reality,” Federighi said. “It’s important to us that we help purvey accurate information, not fantasy.”  Craig says Apple held lengthy discussions about how much it should help users edit parts of an image. The company has also considered the amount of users who wanted something like that as well. “The demand for people to want to clean up what seems like extraneous details to the photo that don’t fundamentally change the meaning of what happened have been very, very high, so we’ve been willing to take that small step," he revealed. This Apple Intelligence function lets users generate an image based on the user's input, such as a sketch, text, or picture. Instead of creating images that could look real, Apple decided it would follow a different approach with drawn images instead. That way, users can still express themselves with AI, but other people can understand the differences between a photo and generated content.
