Now you can unlock your door from Ecobee’s app

Ecobee’s smart security system and smart doorbell camera will now work with smart locks from Yale and August. | Image: Ecobee In its ongoing quest to become a complete smart home system, Ecobee has added a new smart lock integration. The smart thermostat company is partnering with Yale and August to let you control your smart lock using the Ecobee app. If you have an Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera, you should now be able to let someone in more easily by tapping "unlock" right from the live view in the Ecobee app rather than jumping into your smart lock app. If you use Ecobee’s Smart Security system, you can also have the door lock when you arm the system. But it won’t unlock when you disarm the system and putting your PIN code into the door lock won’t turn off the system. The new integration will work with any Wi-Fi-enabled smart lock from Yale or August that... Continue reading…

Anthropic’s Claude AI can now control your computer independently

Anthropic rolled out a new update for its Claude 3.5 Sonnet AI model with exciting implications. As part of the update, Anthropic is launching "computer use" in public beta. With this brand new feature, Claude is now able to "perceive and interact with computer interfaces" the same way a person would by simply looking at the screen. As the company explains, computer use gives Claude the ability to move the cursor around the screen, click buttons, and type text without input from a user. Anthropic admits the experimental feature still needs plenty of work before it's ready but also says that huge companies like Asana, Canva, and DoorDash have already used computer use to complete tasks "that require dozens, and sometimes even hundreds, of steps to complete." In a blog post about developing its computer use model, Anthropic notes that letting AIs interact directly with computer software like we humans do "will unlock a huge range of applications that simply aren’t possible for the current generation of AI assistants." Anthropic makes some serious claims about the feature's capabilities as well: "At present, Claude is state-of-the-art for models that use computers in the same way as a person does—that is, from looking at the screen and taking actions in response. On one evaluation created to test developers’ attempts to have models use computers, OSWorld, Claude currently gets 14.9%. That’s nowhere near human-level skill (which is generally 70-75%), but it’s far higher than the 7.7% obtained by the next-best AI model in the same category." As for the safety concerns, Anthropic says that it would rather introduce a feature like this now, when AI models only require AI Safety Level 2 safeguards, than "adding computer use capabilities for the first time into a model with much more serious risks." You can watch a few videos of Claude's computer use feature in action below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODaHJzOyVCQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqx18KgIzAE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH2f7cjXjKI&t=17s Don't Miss: Listen to this jaw-droppingly good AI podcast that’s based on some of my articles The post Anthropic’s Claude AI can now control your computer independently appeared first on BGR. Apple releases AirPods firmware update for almost all models

Apple releases AirPods firmware update for almost all models

Ahead of new hearing aid features being made available for AirPods Pro 2 on Monday, Apple has released a new firmware update for AirPods 2, 3, Pro 1, and Max with Lightning port. At this moment, it's unclear what's new with this build. However, it's likely about stability improvements. That said, all of these AirPods, except for the original model, AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max with USB-C, are jumping from version 6A326 to 6F21. These are the latest firmware available for each AirPods model: AirPods Pro (2nd gen) with MagSafe charger (USB-C): 7A305 AirPods Pro (2nd gen) with MagSafe charger (Lightning): 7A305 AirPods Pro (1st gen): 6F21 AirPods (4th gen): 7A304 AirPods (3rd gen): 6F21 AirPods (2nd gen): 6F21 AirPods Max (Lightning): 6F21 AirPods Max (USB-C): 7A291 AirPods (1st gen): 6.8.8 How to update AirPods firmware AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C port. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR There isn’t an official method to update your AirPods firmware. Since Apple says the new versions install when AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, the best option is to let both devices charge together for at least 30 minutes. To check your AirPods firmware version, you need to open the Settings app, open the Bluetooth menu, find your AirPods or Beats earbuds, and tap the “i” next to them to see the current version number. If this process doesn’t work, you’ll have to wait until they update on their own, as Apple doesn’t let you manually install these firmware updates. Interestingly, a few days ago, Apple accidentally released a beta firmware for AirPods Pro 2 to all users. Still, the hearing aid features are only available for users in the US and Canada using iOS 18.1. If we discover anything new with this build, we'll update this article. Two Burial Sites from Early Bronze Age Cultures Uncovered in Moravia

Archaeologists have discovered two major burial sites near Olomouc, Central Moravia, in the Czech Republic, during a rescue excavation along the future route of the D35 highway between Křelov and Neředín. One of these sites is the largest burial site linked to the Nitra culture from the Early Bronze Age, dating back to approximately 2100 and 1800 BC. This is now regarded as one of the most important discoveries in the study of the Nitra culture, with a total of 130 graves having been identified. Gendered Differences in Burial and a Multitude of Burial Goods The graves revealed a variety of votive goods: copper ornaments, bone beads, stone arrowheads, a copper ring, and bone awls. Some of the graves also showed signs of post-mortem manipulation, indicating that transitional burial rituals may have been performed even after death. “Thanks to laboratory analyses, we can reconstruct the physical appearance of the inhabitants of that time, their health status, dietary habits, genetic relationships, and migration strategies,” explained lead researcher Vendula Vránová in a press release from the Olomouc Archaeological Centre (ACO). “Supernatural” Bronze Age Gold Device Unearthed in Czech Republic Monumental Long Barrow Burial Discovered in the Czech Republic Read moreSection: NewsHistory & ArchaeologyAncient PlacesEuropeRead Later
